I really wanted to support this local bakery coffee shop since it's close to my home, but the inconsistency is extremely frustrating. They have business hours posted, yet they're almost never open when they say they will be. Mondays and Tuesdays they're closed (even though hours are listed), and today I stopped by on a Wednesday, once again, closed! It's disappointing because I genuinely want to support small businesses in the neighborhood, but it's hard to do that when you can't rely on them being open. Consistency is key for any business, especially in the food and coffee industry. I hope they can improve their reliability because the community deserves better. read more

I like to go to Palermo Bakery and Grill for desserts or a latte. The owner is a Chef and Baker. He has a catering menu serving cold or hot entrees like Ham with all the fixings, Rosemary Chicken, Prime Rib with roasted potatoes or Lasagna with side dishes. The website will feature a special menu for holidays. The latest was for Mother's day. For more casual occasions, he can prepare a platter of croissant sandwiches, turkey club or my favorite panini. For my family, he prepared a full Thanksgiving dinner in June! We enjoyed savory turkey, creamy mashed potatoes, sage dressing, and a nice peppery gravy. When it comes to Thanksgiving, I get full before I can finish my entree. I've been a San Dimas resident for over 20 years and had visited Palermo in the past, but it had been a while--until recently, under the new ownership. As soon as I walked in, I was blown away by the transformation! The ambiance is incredible--wooden tables, cozy sofas, and comfortable chairs made me feel like I had been transported somewhere special. I happened to visit during puppy time (usually on Sundays), and it was such a treat! I brought my dog, who loved the free treats and the chance to mingle with other furry friends. It was a wonderful community vibe. The service was just as memorable. Reyme was warm and welcoming, and the male cashier was friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. I ended up trying several pastries: the biscuits, blueberry muffin, baked French toast, scone, chorizo tart, and cannoli. I also ordered a chai latte with almond milk. Everything was delicious! My personal favorites were the biscuits and the chorizo tart--and the muffins are to die for. I love supporting local businesses, especially one like Palermo that offers such a great variety--coffees, smoothies, pastries, flatbreads, salads, and paninis. Starbucks gets super loud and very distracting. As someone who works from home, I really appreciate having a space where I can comfortably change scenery, enjoy a good drink, and even settle in with a book. What a delightful experience. I ordered a lavender honey latte and a vegan breakfast sandwich. I placed my order after a large family and waited about 10 minutes for my latte and around 30 minutes for my sandwich. To be fair, the cashier did warn me before I paid that it might take some time. However, if I had known exactly what I was getting into, I would have walked out. Service from the young male staff members was good -- they were formal, respectful, and professional. However, while waiting, I overheard the owner coaching one of the employees on how to speak to customers, with the employee's mother present. From a customer's perspective, it came off as micromanaging. The employee looked uncomfortable, and I almost stepped in to say something, but held back to listen for more context. To the owner: Trust your employees and offer feedback in private -- this was not a good look. To the staff member: You were doing great. If this is your first job, trust that you'll become even more natural with customer interactions over time! As for the food and drink: * Lavender Honey Latte (with soy milk): Served hot, but disappointing. All I could taste was the soy milk and espresso -- no hint of lavender or honey. For $7.75 (16oz), it felt overpriced, and I'm not sure if there was an extra charge for the soy milk. 3/10. * Vegan Breakfast Sandwich: The bread was outstanding (10/10). However, the vegan scrambled egg was cold in the middle, the vegan cheese wasn't melted, and the sandwich overall was barely warm. The vegan meat alternative was decent, but the lack of heat ruined the experience. 2/10. I genuinely wanted to support a local business, but for a total of $20.41, this experience missed the mark. Honestly, I would have preferred Starbucks -- it would have been quicker, cheaper, and more consistent. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. read more

Sweet, and creamy, with a soft consistency. The creme brulee itself is cripsy and pairs well with the cheesecake! They also provide a good amount so you can keep eating to your hearts consent! The strawberry jam cookie is absolutely divineeeee! The jam is layered between two thin crumbly cookie, with a slightly warm toasted flavor! The jam is neither thick or overly sweet, and the powdered sugar makes it even more if a treat! The pistachio cookie is about a 1/4-1/2 inch thick and slightly mushy, I believe it may be keto? Not too sure, but you can definitely taste the pistachio. Not my one of my favorites... The sesame cookie is a smaller cookie, that tastes like a sesame ball in cookie form without the filling it would pair great with tea and is a lighter cookie to nom on! Pls know it is not the original carrot cake made by Palermo's. (website/yelp still says Palermo's when I ordered it) What I got was a small rectangular cake which was a bit dry & a bit expensive ($47) IMO, claimed it's good enough to feed 8-10 people. I'm sure they have other great tasting pastries & foods that I'm willing to try. I just won't be ordering that same cake. Lesson learned. The 2nd pic is not a stock photo, it's an original customer picture from a Palermo's customer. In fact most of the reviews about this bakery is still listed under the name Palermo's including the multiple pictures of their carrot cake. So to say it's under new ownership is totally fine, but perhaps you shouldn't mislead your customers to think that you have the same product as its still being advertised on Yelp with the majority of the reviews are from Palermo's bakery. How about start a brand new yelp & put your bakery under your true New Name & not continue using Palermo's? Seems like I'm not the only one that's underwhelmed w/ this new ownership. I'm not trying to put the new ownership down as I've said I would try other things all I'm putting out there is that it's not the same cake. But one previous commenter left an unhappy review said (new owner) "she just seems to want to have the last word in". I'm not saying what I experienced was super awful. I love this bakery! I've been coming for years before or after a walk at Bonelli. Just last week, I met up with a dear friend here and the staff was so great. I neglected to confirm what time they open, so, when we arrived at 7:45am (with my 7-month old baby in tow), they graciously let us order and sit inside. Caitlin was the sweetest! The seating both inside and outside is lovely. Space is always clean. I recommend any of their coffee drinks and have enjoyed their breakfast burritos as well as their yummy lunch salads. 5 stars for yummy food and a wonderful ambiance. read more

I didn't have too big of a request but I was rejected by a few local bakeries. Palermo pulled through and was super sweet about it as well! The baker gave me everything I wanted and I couldn't be happier. The flavor was so fire! The buttercream, fresh berries, cake- so good. I was given so many compliments for this cake. It was hit! It is a cute looking bakery. Came here with my coworkers before work for breakfast. My croissant sandwich was very good. But my iced Matcha was disgusting. I had to throw it away because it kind of tasted like seaweed. I had my coworkers to try as well to make sure I wasn't being dramatic, but they also agreed. Everyone else liked their drinks and food.
