I don't get a any coffee because it is $3.99 and ordering makes me feel financially irresponsible. Plus, in my experience the coffee is usually hit or miss. With all that being said, they always treat me with dignity and respect even though I am quite frugal (also known as cheap). So thanks Denny's for being consistently good. I don't know if I've just been getting lucky across country lately or if Denny's is stepping their game up. I've had a day, let me tell you. Had a minor breakdown issue today, got here 4 hours later than I wanted to, I had Booth bucks from the app, and I ordered a free appetizer which somehow got routed to a Denny's 150 mi away, and which I called them to cancel and they couldn't cancel it just to add to my frustration for the day. BUT, here I am enjoying one of the best if not THE best sizzling skillets I've ever had across this nation. And guess what? IT WAS ACTUALLY SIZZLING. VERY rare occurrence! And not only that, it was a perfect portion, because I subbed extra broccoli in place of potatoes. I forgot to order eggs atop my skillet, but they were nice enough to go in there and make a couple for me! I also ordered a side salad. EVERY SINGLE STAFF MEMBER I dealt with on this visit are the Pinnacle of Denny's servers, period. The cook, is also on his A game. I'm sort of glad that my appetizer got switched to a different location, because there's no way I would have been able to finish everything. I ordered it about 30 minutes ahead of time to give them plenty of time to prepare it while I finished packing. When I got there, the line was out the door. There was one line to place to-go orders and another line to pay, so I was honestly confused about where to go to pick up my online order that had already been paid for. My pickup time was 11:30, and by then it was already 11:35. The people in front of me were kind enough to let me walk past them so I could ask an employee where I should go, but I was just told to get in line. The frustrating part was that my order was the only one sitting on the pickup shelf the entire time. I waited over 10 minutes just to get to the front of the line, and the employee simply grabbed the bag that had been sitting right next to her the whole time. As you can imagine, the sandwiches were cold by then. Maybe during busy times they could also use the "Pay Here" line for online pickups if the ordering line gets too backed up. It would make the pickup process a lot smoother and actually serve the purpose of ordering ahead. As for the atmosphere, it definitely had that classic Waffle House vibe; busy, loud, and full of people. It seemed like they were dealing with a rush, which may have contributed to the confusion, but a more organized pickup process would still go a long way. This was both my husband and my first visit to a Waffle House but we had heard stories for decades online and just knew we had to see what all the fuss was about. My husband was pleased with his order, the All Star special. He said it was pretty standard for a breakfast meal from a franchise, but the fact he'd barely eaten all day made it taste that much better. Waffle House being open 24/7 was the big draw because it allowed us to not be forced to go to bed hungry. As far as cleanliness and service, we had come in expecting the worst based on what the internet says but it those issues weren't present here. Staff were friendly and while I wouldn't exactly eat off the floor it was clean. If you like Waffle House or are wanting a good first experience, this location is a great spot.
