I can't really knock The Burger Shop because the burger and fries were perfectly average, but I don't really go to a restaurant for average food. I don't really understand the other reviews... the food tasted fresh, yeah, but it was all very average and I expected more. I ordered the chipotle bison burger ($9) and a side order of french fries ($3). The burger was fine. Decently sized, I would agree that the food tasted very much like a burger you'd get at Five Guys (albeit a bit less greasy). The fried onions (?) were a nice touch but everything was so humdrum that I've already forgotten what the burger tasted like. I also didn't notice any difference in taste compared to a regular beef patty; I couldn't tell it was bison at all. The fries, honestly, shocked me. Not because they tasted amazing but because of the amount you get for $3. It looked like it was literally 12 french fries. I couldn't believe it. They were also suuuuuuuper salty, such that hours later I was still dehydrated. And they were very very crunchy, so keep that in mind. Issues--more than once have had stale and I mean stale burger buns Please do not put onion rings in a plastic container for a to go order--soggy and all crunch is gone before I can even get home (only 3 miles away). Every time I order from Uber eats from this business they do not pack the sauces that go with the order. This is frustrating for me and the Uber eats driver!! This is not a problem with Uber eats it is definitely a problem with the workers in the store that I left special instructions with. I called the store to complain and they said sorry... our workers normally skip that screen. What? I don't have onion ring sauce or sweet potato sauce( honey mustard) in the fridge. This place always hits the spot when I'm craving a wholesome and highly appetizing (non fast food) burger. They offer an appetizing selection of about 30 different types of burgers. Since I moved to Matawan about a year ago, I've come here about 15 times for take-out. Burger Shop often comes to my mind whether I'm just grabbing a quick bite for me and my husband on a night when no one feels like cooking, or I'm having guests over on a weekend. My top menu choices are definitely the Chipotle Bison Burger and Pete's Crab Burger. Both items are tough to find elsewhere, and are always fresh and delicious! I love how lean, but satisfying, the bison meat is. And that crab burger tastes like it must be homemade, as the seasonings and soft texture are perfect every time! Since I've always ordered takeout here, I have yet to dine inside. The decor is fashioned around a 1950s classic movie theme. They're always playing great music from that era. It's definitely a lively place! The only drawback, which takes away one star, is that their fries are a bit expensive for a side item. They charge $ 3.50 for a small container of waffle fries, which are as deliciously salty and peppery as fries get, but still just ordinary French fries. Nothing special in that regard. Nonetheless, I recommend Burger Shop anytime. I'll be back soon to try more of their inventive Burger creations. This is a great little burger spot! It's located in a small strip mall in Matawan. The ambience perfectly captures that retro 50's/60's old fashion burger joint theme. The menu selection is large which includes a variety of burgers, hot dogs, sides and Milkshakes. They have a few unique items in the menu such a as "Pete's Crab burger" made from blue claw crab ( well, at least I've never seen that on a burger joint menu before... ) so that was nice. I ordered the Mushroom Swiss burger with funnel cake fries. The burger was delicious! It was juicy seasoned well and the sautéed mushrooms paired well with the burger. Hands down, this was one of the best burgers I've ever eaten! The fries were great too. Now, if it was just my order alone I'd give them 5 stars, but my husband was less than impressed with his philly Burger and waffle fries. He felt the onions on the burger weren't sautéed enough and that they overloaded the sandwich and took away from the burger. Additionally, the waffle fries were over salted. From the outside, the restaurant looks like it could be a copy of Five Guys but once inside, you'll see that everything, even the choice of music, has a retro 50s vibe. The aspiring Vegan in me has been losing a lot of battles lately. And places like The Burger Shop aren't helping. I'm pretty sure The Burger Shop was once a 25 Burgers, which I recall not being all that great. Whatever the case may be, the burgers here are excellent. Cooked smashburger-style, the grill chef gets a great sear and crunch on both sides of the patty, locking in all that juicy deliciousness inside. As a rule though, the burgers are cooked medium to medium-well here. I prefer a bloody medium rare, but as long as the patty isn't dried out, this style is fine from time to time. There's something for everyone here, even my vegetarian wife and my super-finicky children. The boy loves his chicken nuggets, mozzarella sticks, and milkshakes. Check, check, and check. My daughter loves a well-done grilled hot dog and fries -- and they've got that, too. And the old lady gets to rock a veggie burger dressed up just the way she likes it. Happy children, happy wife: happy life. I highly recommend the Trenton Burger, topped with crispy, thin-sliced pork roll, and a generous amount of American cheese. I'd take this over 5 guys, but not quite as good as fuddruckers. The chicken sandwich I got for my wife was fried chicken, which was probably my bad for not reading the board well enough. Again, good bun, fresh ingredients. The big disappointment was the nacho cheese. Just gross, over-processed yellow goo. The chili cheese dog was swimming in it, and the chili was just not good. Haven't been disappointed yet since the first time I went here. When you first walk in, the place does remind you of 5 Guys because of the red and white color theme of the place. But that's about it as to the similarities. The burgers are delish and they definitely have a burger for everyone's taste buds. So far my favorite is the Gyro burger which is a lamb burger with gyro meat on top of it with the tzatziki sauce. Tastes just like a Gyro on a bun =) My other favorite has to be the Rueben burger. It's basically a burger with a Rueben sandwich on top of it. So you'll get hot pastrami, swiss cheese, saurkraut and Russian Dressing on top of your burger. Def a must try if you're a Rueben lover. My total was $36.... The fries alone were $3.50/piece (and you only get a small cup full compared to Five Guys).
