Met the husband here for lunch. Service was quick. Self-serve salsa bar with carrots, lime, and onions was nice to have. Fountain drink machine was also nice on a hot day. Decent amount of tables. I ordered a steak and egg burrito and a carne asada burrito. Burritos are decent size. The only downside I had was that the burritos were mislabeled. "Asada" was written on the paper but it was actually the steak and egg burrito. The wrong burrito was placed on the wrong plate. Other than that, this place has plenty of parking and convenient if you work nearby. Prices are decent, and in this economy, that's a plus. read more

Awful customer service. Today we bought 7 burritos over the phone for pick up. When we got home, only 6 burritos. My son's burrito was missing. Called and the young lady repeated the order and argued saying all burritos should be there. Drove back. I waited for the 7th burrito and the lady tossed the burrito on the counter in my direction and said the burritos name. No apology, no respect, no accountability. I asked her for an apology and she got attitude, denied that they made a mistake and then with attitude said, "ok, ok I'm sorry". If she had simply apologized for the error from the get go, people make mistakes - no big deal. But to give attitude, refuse accountability and then insinuate I just drove 20 minutes for a free 8th burrito...that's worthy of my first 1 star review ever. The menu is large enough but sadly because the floodlights shining on it makes it hard to read easily. The glare is bad. I stopped by here to pick up Breakfast Burritos for the family after taking my cat to the Vet. I ordered the Hashbrown Burrito for all of us. It was pretty good, didn't seem to have a lot of Bacon and Sausage though. Sour Cream was a different ingredient than I'm used to for a Breakfast Burrito but I liked it. The Salsa was very flavorful. Ordered a steak and egg burrito with no egg (as clearly seen on the receipt) due to my son's egg allergy. Got home only to find out the burrito has egg in it. My son was a good sport about it and decided to eat it anyway. He took Benadryl beforehand and started eating the burrito. Not more than 3 bites in, he was starting to have a reaction. Soon after, he started to feel nauseous. NOT HAPPY with today's events. When I specifically ask for a food item to NOT be in the cooked with the food, it's for a reason! Now my son is down for the count for the rest of the day. Oh, I almost forgot to mention...we have a discount card that wasn't honored today as well. I showed the card to the lady and she acknowledged it, but upon reviewing my receipt, there was no discount given ‍. I can't really say anything about the service or ambience, considering that my husband picked me up a burrito after work yesterday for dinner. We only live like 3 miles away from this place, so it's not like it's a far drive. He got me a bean and cheese burrito to go. When he got home five minutes later, the burrito was literally so cold that I wondered if it had ever been warm at all. Like, cold to the touch. Being that I was starving, though, I decided to eat it anyway. Well, I tried to... but as soon as I picked it up the bottom of the burrito tore and the beans went everywhere. I ended up eating the beans with a spoon, and just tearing apart the rest of the flimsy tortilla. I only got about halfway through and I decided that this was a waste of time and calories, despite it being the only thing I had eaten that day. For a place that's literally named the burrito factory, you would think that they would know how to make a good burrito? Anyway, I won't be eating from here again. Small Mexican restaurant in a neighborhood plaza. There's not many restaurants in the area to compete with it. It used to be El Patron. The portions were large and they had daily specials. I had the bean tostada, chicken taco, and rolled taco special. It came out covered with cheese and everything was deep fried. Lol! Nice and crunchy. We had a disappointing experience at Burrito Factory. My husband went in and asked for a gluten-free quesadilla for our daughter, who has celiac disease. He explained that most Mexican restaurants will simply swap the flour tortilla for a corn tortilla and charge the same price -- something we've done many times elsewhere without a problem. They reluctantly agreed to do it "this time, but never again," saying it wasn't on the menu. This response felt dismissive and not very inclusive to people with allergies. In 2025, it's surprising when a restaurant isn't willing to accommodate a simple, reasonable dietary request, especially for a medical need. Unfortunately, this experience left us feeling unwelcome, and we likely won't be back. read more

Our go-tos: -Carne Asada Burritos: lean carne asada meat with guac and salsa fresca. Not bad. -Hashbrown Burrito: eggs, bacon, sour cream, sausage, hashbrowns and cheese. A bit heavy but perfect to split with a friend. -Hard Shell Chicken and Fish Tacos: standard but super inexpensive and filling I usually call in my order to go and within about 10-15 minutes it's ready. My lineup consisted of sampling the guacamole salsa and the chille Verde salsa....they were very flavorful. My coworkers said the habinero was also very tasty. I opted for the shredded beef burrito and then "kicked it up a notch" by asking for it to be completed chimichanga style. They lightly fry it and add guacamole, cheese, and a cojita sauce to the top. I had to use a fork and knife everywhere except the ends. Add the guacamole salsa, and it was really good. Parking was easy as it's in a shopping mall area. Don't be deterred at first by the Chipotle look. The Burrito Factory took over the old El Patron and kept the menu basically the same. They did give it a facelift and made it look more modern and clean. I got the fish burrito and it was huge, well-prepared, and tasty with excellent fried fish. Their prices are reasonable and the service is what you expect from an authentic Mexican taco shop. Just efficient and no-nonsense chit-chat. They also have an excellent salsa bar with tasty sauces. Location-wise, it is technically located in Poway but at the edge of the Scripps Ranch border which is so needed for us Scripps residents. We got the classic one & subbed in some hash browns & I got the steak & egg one. Both were really good! However, personal preference-wise just wish the breakfast one didn't have beans in it. This place was formerly El Patron. It's new to this plaza and has daily specials that includes a drink. I got one fish taco and one carnitas taco to try. The fish taco was well battered, decent size, loved all the toppings and sauce. Corn tortillas was not hard. The carnitas taco has so much meat! Very flavorful too, not dry. I will definitely come back to try other items. Make sure you tell them you want the daily specials because the customer behind me did not and the guy at the counter made a stink about it and blamed the customer for not telling him and he's unable to honor it. I thought that was rude because shouldn't you clarify with the customer and ask especially when you know there's a cheaper deal? Like, who wants to pay more to get less when you can get more and pay less? For that reason, I'm deducting a star. read more

Well, the place is nice and there is a variety to the menu beyond burritos. We ordered the Breakfast and Crunchy Breakfast Chipotle burritos. Sadly, both were sub-standard. The tortilla appeared to be handmade and fresh, but the contents inside were not good. The Chipotle had large (what looked like) Canadian bacon bits, rather than regular crispy bacon, and the Breakfast burrito was quite soggy and, overall, unappealing. I wasn't able to eat more than about three bites. We really were hoping for something better since the place is close to us and we love Mexican food, but this was just not good and we won't be back. read more

I usually don't leave a review after only one visit because I like to eat at a spot multiple times before I leave any comments, but since there are no reviews I will give the people a little info... This used to be Patrons. I talked to the kid at the register their last day and he told me the owner is retiring and selling the space to someone else who is bringing in another Mexican spot. Today I went to Burrito Factory and the lady at the register said it's the exact same food and recipes, they only changed the name.... Very confusing. I don't have the exact menus of Patrons but I believe their menu to be more well rounded with a lot more meals (ie: enchiladas, chimchungas, fajitas, menudo/pozole, etc). The Burrito Factory has more of a taco/burrito menu, naturally. But they do offer other stuff. My wife and I both got breakfast burritos so we could judge the quality since that's what we get wherever we go. I can vouch the breakfast burritos are the same. They look and taste the same and the selection is the same. Also, I can vouch the salsas are the same. The "GuacaChile" is still there and the red salsa tastes the exact same. So as I can tell so far, the recipes and ingredients are similar if not the same. The remodel made the place look updated and looks more modern. One thing of note, the prices were lot higher than Patrons which is disappointing. Burritos were almost $3 more expensive and quesadillas also almost $3 more. In total we've gone 3 times to burrito factory since they opened. Twice they've gotten our order wrong. Patrons NEVER got our order wrong. I don't know if it's the cooks not paying attention to the orders or the people bagging the food being lazy and bagging the wrong items, but I don't want to drive back to your place to get what I ordered. In conclusion, this is the same place as Patrons, just more expensive and the inside is remodeled. read more

I had high expectations for The Burrito Factory and they do a great job. I think the kitchen was overwhelmed and I'm glad I called ahead so I didn't have to wait. I ordered the hashbrown, breakfast, and crispy chipotle breakfast burritos. Our favorite was the hashbrown, mixture was nice inside with all the ingredients mixed well throughout the burrito. Unfortunately I did get several pieces of egg shell in my crispy chipotle burrito which made it inedible. I really enjoyed the salsas, I have not seen a salsa bar that had that great of a selection with fresh tasting salsa. The chili oil was so good and really spicy. I wasn't that hungry so I didn't get the combo with rice and beans. The tacos were good. A nice amount of beef and all the usual suspects. My second visit I ordered Carne Asada chips. Everything was good. A good amount of Carne Asada and all the toppings. A generous amount of guacamole. Only thing that ruined this trip was the stale chips. Places have their off days. I get it, hopefully that was a one time deal. Third trip I had their Factory Burrito. Strip steak, Anaheim peppers, beans and a cream sauce. I used to love Patrons version on Mira Mesa. Most taco shops don't have this on their menu. Burrito Factory does, so this filled that void. I now have a place that serves something similar. A formidable opponent. Their burritos are on the larger side of some places. And averaging around $10, it's a great deal. My fourth trip I went with the 5 rolled tacos. Solid decision. It's pretty standard. Crunchy, with a decent amount of beef. Fresh veggies and guacamole. You can't go wrong with 5 rolled tacos. Overall, a super clean and modern interior. There was a fresh salsa bar with a variety of salsa's, hot carrots, onions, and limes to choose from. They also had 3 versions of rolled tacos! They had chicken, beef and fish rolled tacos. I ordered a grande burrito California surfing payed extra for shrimp $5.99. It only had 3 shrimp!!!! More fries than meat!! It was dry carne asada. I recommend go elsewhere or just open it before you leave. It was too late for me, I took off I live in Julian. I will never comeback here!
