Looking for sashimi grade tuna and salmon in Chico? S&S was the only place I found it. The tuna was in their food case, the salmon was frozen. We wanted to do poke bowls at home. Price wasn't horrible. Service was great. Made for happy family at home. read more

We heard the food was good here. Last weekend we ordered from the deli, and were unimpressed. (Meat quality was low, lettuce was wilted). So we thought maybe people liked the BBQ or something... Decided to try it today. Walk-up order for two sandwiches. We were told no problem, it'll be about 15 minutes. We sat down to wait. Several orders are taken and handed out. Including one man (about 20 minutes into our wait) who rushed up saying "I just placed an order over the phone! I'm in a hurry!" His food was ready about 5 minutes after that. Finally after 30 minutes, we walk up to the counter and they just silently handed over our food. Dunno if the just forgot about us or if they just highly prioritize phone orders or what. Would've given the benefit of the doubt if an explanation was given but no explanation or apology for the wait. Now, the food... Please see attached photos for evidence of the low quality of the food. Burnt bread. Low quality ingredients. Everything was so bland. The meat tasted like school lunch meat. Nasty. Honestly would avoid just based on the food, but the service was also not great. read more

10/10 customer service! My girlfriend is from Japan and we wanted to make a Japanese dish called Okonomyaki. The recipe calls for thinly sliced pork belly and we couldn't find it anywhere. We came here at the last minute and I am so glad we did! We were helped by Daniel and he was fantastic! Not only did he accommodate for us being last minute but he also was extremely knowledgeable about his cuts of meat and dishes as well. Daniel is a man of culture and knows more about Japanese food than I do. The staff is amazing and are quick to help. I will definitely be coming back and I highly recommend this place! I hate to leave negative comments because there is so much I love about this place. The staff is terrific, the selection impressive, and the quality of the produce and seafood pretty decent. The problem I'm having of late is the quality of their beef... namely steaks. Decided to give it another chance last night and had the butcher cut me two New Yorks 1 1/2 inches wide. Frankly, at $15/plus a pound the quality of these steaks should have been much better. Somewhat tough and tasteless, I would have guessed this was a "choice" cut if blind tasting. I'm not a fan of Safeway beef, but this tasted similar at 2 1/2 to three times the price. Can think of three or four places in town with better quality product at better price. Will continue to support Butcher Shop for many of my needs, but done with their beef. read more

I want to give a huge thank you to the meat cutters at The Butcher Shop. I put in a special order of flanken cut beef ribs to make Korean grilled short ribs(kalbi). I ordered 5 lbs. I picked them up the day after I ordered them. Took em home and unwrapped them to see if they were cut as ordered. O my gosh. They are beautiful! 1/4 inch thick and pink and pretty with no strange bone sawdust on their faces. Thank you guys(girls?). Whoever cut these. Fine job! They are now marinating in a lovely pear/soy/scallion marinade. Cannot wait for dinner!! I love having you all in my life. My go to place for meat and fish. Hamburger is so good here. And the skirt steak......!!!! read more
