extremely I'm very unhappy customer. Won't be back, Went there to buy ribeyes olny to be told he would not cut my steaks, Because he wanted to go home at 6. I usually spend $80 there on steaks. Because I know they're good. Believe it was the night of the 18th, the guy that has the gages in his ears. The reason why I have them cut is because they're too thick. So if I can't cut it , having to go somewhere else to buy Cheaper meat, Which was gross not anything like theirs. My guest were disappointed, I had invited people over for dinner. And had told my guest how great the steakes were there?. I was there 20 minutes till 6 before they closed because I was at left work.i Just to go get them only to be told no. So, we stopped in just to take a look and see what they have since we are moving to the Tehachapi area next week. We were instantly greeted and browsed the various meats, fish and seasonings they have. The guy working noticed we had our dogs in our truck and gave us a little treat for them! ***APPLE MAPS***IS ROUTED WRONG, do not use it!!! Fabulous cuts of meat, the nicest owner and employees. We had to switch to the Apple Maps to finally get there and were certainly glad we did. The choices of homemade sausages wowed us, and it was hard to choose. Some items are prepped for cooking: chicken fajitas and huge sausage stuffed pork chops were our favorites. All of the beef, pork , and chicken cuts were generous, and their potato salad side was delicious. The price for 6 meals worth of meat for two people was only around $50... you can't beat that. As a recent transplant from Los Angeles, I have been here on quite a few occasions looking for high quality meat, but after my last trip I needed to reactivate my Yelp to leave a review. This place is the ONLY place I will buy meat moving forward. Whether it is the grass-fed beef, the rotating fish options, or the fantastic cheese available... this place has it all. My ONLY regret is that they haven't expanded into Bakersfield, so I need to trek into Tehahapi to get my fix. Try the short-rib, try the rib-eye, try the fish, try the cheese and then try to tell me with a straight face that you need ANY other option in whatever town you're in. An absolutely stellar, true and original Butcher Shop. It's an, at least, monthly stop for a healthy Ribeye and marrow bones for the puppy. Sure, the meat is slightly more expensive than the other two grocery stores in town. Yet, the quality you get far exceeds that of the two grocery stores. And the selection available at the Butcher Shop is amazing. And now that they have their Baskets (Essentials, Lean, Good for Grillin' and Smoking's a Good Habit), it's the only place locally that I am buying my meats. Great meat! When we go to Tehachapi, we try to go here when we can. The meat is super fresh. They have a variety of different meat in the freezers that I like to try. The last time we went we got beef ribs which I was very pleased with. They're super meaty. The ones you get at chain grocery stores barely have any meat on them. We also got bacon. We love us some bacon. The store was very clean and the staff was knowledgeable about what I wanted and needed. I definitely plan to go back. read more

The meat counter is always neat, clean and the building smells clean. This seems to be an issue with butcher shops... they can't seem to perfect that clean smelling room ambiance. Just moved to town and started asking around for a good butcher. I was told about this place by a neighbor and am super happy to have found this place. The meats are tasty and great quality. They have all the basic meats and take it up a notch with duck, rabbit, etc. Their "exotic" meats are expensive ($13.99/lb for rabbit--my grandmother would have flipped) but it's great to know I can get it. The owner told me that beginning next year they are taking over the place next door and will be processing game and livestock in house-- super looking forward to that. read more

I feel so frustrated that this shop refuses to have its staff wear masks. This is very disrespectful of customers. Last week I asked why they don't wear masks and they said they do if asked but it's not a store policy. Today I asked and the guy just ignored me. Really? The meat, while good, is over priced. This place is one of Tehachapi's best kept secrets. The guys here are terrific and knowledgeable. They have everything you need and more. And if they don't have it they can get it. We picked up some beef (not sure what kind...have to ask the wife) and I got some burger patties. They put BACON in the beef patty. Also got some sausages for the grill. Local. Nice folks. They carry Harris Ranch Beef. There is definitely a difference between the stuff Ralphs or your local grocery store sells and the beef here. Cooking the beef is a breeze. I usually go for rare and broil it on my Kitchen Aid toaster oven. Around 7 - 8 minutes a side. I use their "barbecue sh&@" sauce sparingly, because I can't help myself. Enjoy. When you take it out of the oven, let the cut of meat rest for 5 minutes, so it locks in the juices. I tent the meat with aluminum foil to keep it warm. Lastly, take the meat out for around 30-45 minutes before cooking the meat. This gives the meat to come to room temperature. There's actually some science involved with fats and proteins and tenderness, whence this is done. Google it and you'll see. I'm not just making this stuff up. If you take the extra steps the meat will be sensational to eat. Even if you do the unthinkable, like stick ketchup on the meat or worse yet bbq sauce. Lol If you learn the basics of cooking a steak it will be better than a gulfstream's, outback steak house and on par with a Lawry's at a 1/4 if the price. If you haven't mastered cooking steak then learn how. It's not hard; really. Otherwise you'll have a tasty tough steak. Two last points, cook the meat at rare or if you need to rare medium. Medium rare overcooks the meat so less taste. I also think that doing a salt or pepper dry rub initially will cause the meat to dry out from the salt. Avoid the temptation. Good Luck. read more

We called and talked with Brandon regarding butchering our pig. He said they'd be able to take care of this with no problem. Delivered our pig which weighed out over 200 lbs. Brandon was fabulous. He went over all the different cuts he'd be able to do and how they would be packaged etc. Picked it up a few days later. The packaging was great and everything was marked perfect. We were extremely happy with the cost of the processing. They are very expensive 48.00 for a few fatty pork steaks. We had a 50.00 gift card and went to get a nice pork roast all they had were pork steaks they sold us is few for 48.00. When we took it out of the package it looked like a slab of fat. I don't think we will go back or recommend to family or friends. read more
