Best kept brunch secret in the Tehachapi area! Their food is great! Servers are so sweet!! Please remember to tip!! --- Everything is very fresh and they serve huge portions! On the road for a great sandwich with sourdough bread landed here on a breezy Saturday afternoon and glad to drive out to this small town airport at the end of town. Saw young adults learn to pilot a wind glider as I sat outside drinking scrumptious homemade New England white cream calm chowder with potatoes, carrots and calms. Followed by a large sandwich loaded high with Meats, cheeses and veggies. Very well made and great customer service. We will definitely be back Kudos! It was a great place to pull up a bench seat and settle into the slow and steady small-town vibe while eating a delicious cold sandwich and watching the air glider planes take off. I recommend calling and asking what the flight schedule is before coming in, if you're hoping to guarantee seeing a glider take off or land. The interior is very pleasing and cozy, and the staff is extremely welcoming and kind. My partner and I were greeted with warm smiles and great service. We ordered a sandwich to share as they aren't shy with stacking ingredients in there. We also ordered 2 slices of bread, lemon and banana bread, and we were given an extra piece that was cut from the end of the loaf. What a nice little sandwich shop! You'd never know it once you arrive because you're literally at a little tiny airport in the middle of nowhere. But once you walk in, you're greeted by friendly people and made feel welcome. Hubby had the ham and Swiss sandwich - you can have it made however you like. I had the chili which was very good. Driving advice: your navigation will probably just take you to what looks like an airplane maintenance hanger. Just drive a little bit further as though you're literally getting onto the runway and then you'll find it on your right. read more

This was such a welcome respite from the typical truck stop food found along the interstate. Traveling from Las Vegas to Paso Robles, we stumbled onto this little gem. A bit off the beaten path, this charming little Cafe at the Mountain Valley Airport in Tehachapi was worth the effort. The sandwiches were all really good, but their baked goods were to DIE for!! Going through Tehachapi looking for something different, preferably a sandwich place, happened upon Ravens Nest in the Maps App, took a chance and ended up at the little airport cafe, saying to ourselves WTF are we? So we are up soaring all day. It's hot. The sun is beating down and we are jobbin outside all day. What you don't want to worry about is lunch. This little small cafe is awesome. It's your typical mom and pop shop that services good food with a smile. For lunch, they had a whole spread of homemade soups and sandwiches. The selection was awesome. Better selection over some sandwich shops. I got the half sandwich and half soup. The baked potato soup was amazing. And the pastrami sandwich was great. This is an awesome spot. We were parked at the Rv park by the airstrip so decided to walk over to the airport for breakfast Small & friendly. We ordered the French toast breakfast with scrambled eggs! Both were excellent! Loved that they put ham, cheese & onion in our eggs. As we left I saw a pan of homemade biscuits come out of oven. Looked great! What a wonderful surprise to find this cafe at the Skylark North flight school/Mountain Valley Airport in Tehachapi. Very friendly staff (Mike) and food prepared exactly to my custom order. We were very pleasantly surprised. I had the French toast and bacon, and my companion had eggs and hash browns. The food was delicious, was attractively presented, and was served fast. One of the best-kept secrets in the area. I love coming here and working from the cafe, looking out on the runway as the planes and gliders go by. They have free wifi and delicious coffee, breads, sandwiches, and fabulous service. If you need to break out of your breakfast or lunch rut, come check it out. We were doing an early morning staff event. I called on Friday and found out they don't open until 8am. They were more than willing to go in early and make sure I had 50 breakfast burritos ready by 7:40 Monday morning. When I arrived they were packaged with so much TLC to make sure they'd be warm when I served them. Staff was so friendly and happy to help. Customer service with a smile unlike any I've seen in years. I can't wait to go back and enjoy breakfast with my family. Fun atmosphere with lots of character as well. You can stay inside the restaurant or sit outside closer to the glider area and enjoy the sun. Watching the gliders hook up and take off is fun. The staff is very nice and checks on you. On our road trip this Memorial weekend, we decided to stop somewhere for some sandwiches. This place had decent reviews so we gave it a shot, I have family in Tehachapi but I had never heard of it. The location seems odd at first, but it's actually really neat to see all of the small airplanes, and even watch them take-off. The atmosphere is really cute, and very American. The thing that isn't quite American about this place, however, are the portions. I'm a petite woman, but the portions were small even for me. My boyfriend had to stop somewhere else for some more food because he was still hungry after he had his sandwich. It's a shame because the food is fresh and good, but you don't get your money's worth. read more
