The Cabin at Mario's has wonderful ambiance, delectable food and caring servers. Trish was amazing. We were SO excited to go there and see the holiday decor and enjoy a nice evening with close family friends. We had a good evening in spite of them. I highly recommend anyone looking for an enjoyable evening - if they wish to be treated with a modicum of respect - go elsewhere. The management is HORRIFIC and the worst I have ever encountered (and I live in Chicago and frequent all types of restaurants - the service here by management literally ranks DEAD LAST). To call the management unprofessional would be the understatement of the century. Rude, disrespectful and unaccommodating. We requested a certain room upon making reservations well in advance, and they shared it was unable to be reserved. Upon arrival, with a table that would fit our party vacant in the room desired, we requested consideration and they shared it was reserved for others. When pressed, they told us they have a "lottery system" for table assignment and if we could be out in 90 minutes, they would accommodate us (after three conversations). We ordered, ate and had our bill ready to pay within 75 minutes. At precisely 89 minutes in, without the bill yet to be picked up, the maître de came and rudely leaned over our table, without a comment on our dinner or any niceties, informing us that we had one minute to close out. Rude and unprofessional does not begin to describe his demeanor. When we shared we were ready to leave and still had time according to THEIR schedule, and that while we enjoyed our evening, based upon his treatment, we would not be returning, he shared he was glad and wished for us never to return. Four long-time Clevelanders and one transplant with many connections still in the city. Really?! We were respectful, adhered to the timeline shared (despite the fact the next party was NOT there and there were MANY open tables and supposedly the next party would not have known which table at which they were to be seated, given reservations for particular rooms are not granted), and left a huge tip as our waitress was deserving of (Terri - awesome). Diners at the adjacent table clearly heard the maître de and were horrified as the lady informed her partner of the abhorrible service and that she wished to leave and not return. If you want beautiful scenery and wonderful food, it's a great place. However, if you value being treated with respect, and like a human being, look elsewhere. I for one will never be back, nor will my family members or close family friends, nor will the many, many people I share my review on social media with be. Mario's - you need to be better. New management is beyond necessary. The receptionist who answers your phone is the least helpful and most rude of any encountered. Your onsite management is horrific. Gross...we made reservations for breakfast (the person taking the reservation was rude on the phone. That should have tipped us off). We had to wait a long time for our food which we chose from a very limited menu. They were out of sausage and waffles. No pancakes on the menu. Four guests ordered french toast which came out cold and burned. One guest ordered scrambled eggs with their avocado toast and got over easy. The poached egg on the eggs Benedict was hard. Two guests ordered omelets. One came out completely overcooked. The other came out ten minutes after the rest of us got their food and it was runny inside. All of the sides were cold. Two of the guests were supposed to get fruit cups with their meal which the server forgot. When they got the fruit cups, the berries were moldy. Several of the guests in our party got sick. The cabin itself was beautifully decorated. The server tried to make it right and comped several of our meals. So, 30 years ago we had our wedding reception at the Cabin at Mario's. We booked a reservation via OpenTable and received confirmation to celebrate. Got there and the restaurant was closed, and the woman there gave a very unprofessional attitude insisting that OpenTable knows the restaurant is closed Tuesdays even though I offered to show her my email confirmation. Very disappointed. Ate here about a year ago and had great prime rib so one of the reasons we came back. Guess what? New chef does not have prime rib on menu. Seated at 6:30pm .... entree showed up 90 minutes later. So if you like bread they'll keep bringing it. Ordered the halibut ...$39 ... it was about the size of the palm of my hand and about as thick... buried under about a bushel of cherry tomatoes ... I guess to hide the size. We were looking for a restaurant that had a warm atmosphere and great food and a friend recommended Marios. The location was inconspicuous as it is in an old White House that sit back from the road Once we walked in, we knew that we were in for a treat. The inside was all barn board and was broken into a number of smaller rooms and a great bar. We had not expected white linen tablecloths and dish ware to add to a feeling of subtle elegance. But the combination worked beautifully. We had dinner and everything from the lobster bisque to the broiled tuna was perfect. The price matched the quality of the food which was what any of us hope for. We will return with our friends. We highly recommend Marios! read more

The people with the bad reviews are crazy, YES the service was a little slow BUT many diners were in the place, besides unlike the other reviewers I enjoy the company I was dining with so the slower pace was nice. People complain about the TV's in the dining rooms HATE to tell you Folks YOU were in the Bar, There are Two other rooms One with a fire place also. The Tables for two had comfy chairs. The salmon was fantastic and the Steak well cooked and so tender.. I have since been back two other times and I've always gotten great service I just can't understand the bad reviews and I'm a world wide traveler. Yes as all places of business they can have an off night, or service bit slow when you have a small party of 12 HA HA 12 small? or the waiter doesn't look you in the eye as one reviewer stated (In some area's doing this is an insult) I believe the major flaw with the reviewers is this being Aurora they expect to be served like Royalty or the Snobs they are. The meals are a little pricey and I wouldn't buy the drinks I believe $9 for a Jack and Coke that I thought was insane. The Bar/dining tables are a fact but you must remember this place is also a small Hotel. This is kind of like your kid wandering off the path.....I just want to jump in and point them in the right direction.....but you get the feeling no one would listen. We did a small dinner (12 people) and everyone was disappointed with the service when the waitress from 1920 chased us off at 830 on a weeknight. I took a few of my employees to dinner as a Christmas celebration. Our reservation was for 7:00. When we arrived, we were told that our table wasn't ready yet but we could wait and have a drink. I asked how long they expected the wait to be and was told 15-20 minutes. We were lead through the beautifully decorated restaurant, down a back hall, upstairs to an empty private event room - not at all what I was expecting. I should've known we were in for a long wait when they immediately offered to bring us menus. We declined as we wanted our promised table downstairs. Other parties were slowly brought up to the room, Christmas music began to be piped in and the gentleman bringing drinks got a workout on those stairs. One by one, the other parties were taken downstairs to be seated and one eventually just gave up and left. The music was turned off and we continued to wait in an empty quiet room. Almost TWO HOURS later, someone cane to get us and we were finally seated. The waitress took our orders and proceeded to rush us through our appetizers and salads. Not ONCE did a manager come to talk to us to apologize for our ridiculous wait, no acknowledgement, nothing. When I checked the bill, they hadn't charged for our drinks but that was the only accommodation made. I realize things happen but that's completely unacceptable. The management should have been all over that and their lack of attention speaks volumes about how they value patrons. We enjoyed each others company, the food was very good and it was a truly gorgeous setting for a holiday dinner but I won't return to this restaurant. read more

Rude and unprofessional service. I went there on Mother's Day after a spa day with my mom and sister. The spa treatments were wonderful but The Cabin was awful! I had a reservation and I actually saw it in their books but they refused to seat us or even pour us water for another 45 minutes because they "closed" between lunch and dinner (don't make a reservation during that hour then!). The whole staff talked about us right near our table. The food was not good and was definitely over-priced. As a previous restaurant employee, one you never turn away guests before you actually close (if I did this, I wouldn't have served LeBron James over a handlful of times). Having only drinks, and the time not being after you close, you do not turn profits away, and we wouldn't have been there for hours. Have been here several times and this was by far the most disappointing !! The "bruschetta" was more like an open faced sandwich with very thick, chewy bread, not the classic thin crispy slice. My husband had the filet which was actually the best thing we had but his risotto and maple carrots were subpar. They reminded me of the Lipton side dishes you buy at the grocery store. My "wood fired " pizza was completely raw and had to be re-fired ( and I am almost positive there was not wood fire grill). When it did come out it was tasty but my husband was already done with his meal and I had filed up on the table bread with dipping oil. Next year we will find some where else for our anniversary weekend as the spa services were below average as well. read more

If you like Christmas decorations, and being treated like crap, then go here. First time we went the service was terrible - they seemed way put out to even come by our table. My family has been going to Mario's for at least 20 years. Our father, now passed, was extremely choosy about restaurants, and this is the place he went to shed the cares of his week. I have heard, not from the staff, but from many father's friends, that the owners are a bit mercurial and difficult to work for. Considering that this is true, the staff seem to pay the kind of attention to detail that make for a pampered and pleasant visit. Had heard mixed reviews from friends and coworkers, so we decided to try it for ourselves with 3 other couples, two of whom had dined here before with hit or miss experiences. Our server Phil, was fine and knowledgable of menu & specials for evening. Took drink order, he then made our drinks (good pour), but may of had other tables to tend to as he was absent for long periods of the meal. Food wise, lobster bisque was lukewarm at best and not heated throughout. Nice portion but not very good or anything special, was the general consensus. Wood fired pizza was just ehh, one comment was they make better at home. Lobster ravioli was said to be good meal, but at $28 it should be very good or even great. Chicken piccata was another dish that was just good. Grilled salmon was over cooked, risotto was terrible, mashed spuds were good. Burgers looked hearty and those who ate them said they were good, mashed was a sparse portion with burgers. Took almost 2 (two) hours to get our meal, people who sat after us ate before us. Sometimes the holidays have the family going in different directions and we find ourselves "alone", which was the case this Thanksgiving. So we took my mother out to The Cabin for our holiday dinner. It was our first time dining there and we were beyond pleasantly surprised. We did have a reservation, so we were seated immediately. We had a wonderful turkey dinner with all the fixings and pumpkin pie of course. The entre and sides were very flavorful. The cost was perhaps higher priced than I normally would spend, but it was a holiday and to be expected. The restaurant was tastefully decked out for the holidays - and created quite an ambiance. It was beautiful ! Our table was situated by the fireplace and we spent a better part of the night looking around at all the decorations. It was a perfect way to spend the holiday and although it was a year with just the three of us, it created a very good memory. read more

Gotta tell ya -- inside it's like an old, comfortable cabin but the Christmas lights and decorations are amazing! Took some pics, but there is NO WAY they did the place justice. We went to The Cabin to celebrate my Father's 79th birthday. There were 7 of us. Upon entering, there was not a line up of people, but the gentleman checking in people (who has been there for years), looked at us, said our name and then pointed over his shoulder to say where our table was. He did not, nor did anyone show us to our table. How odd and frankly inhospitable. It certainly set the tone for the evening. Fortunately, Vince the waiter was a nice recovery. I have dined at The Cabin several times before and wanted to share the place with my friends. What a disappointing experience. Why do diners need a flat screen TV in the dining room? The ambiance was ruined - the fireplace was enough. Also, who runs out of their signature Zuppa di Angostura so close to the start of the dinner hour (5:30pm)? There were four of us in our party and three ordered that soup. Only one serving remained. I thought I was lucky to be the one to get that serving till it arrived at the table sans any recognizable lobster meat and certainly no tomato basil creme evident - nice presentation. Not so lucky, I guess, bottom of the pot. I also ordered the chocolate mousse; it tasted artificial and had been spooned over cholate syrup in the dish. Sweet but disappointing. Two of us ordered hot tea but only one tea bag was offered to each of us despite two refills of hot water. It seemed the waiter couldn't be bothered providing us with basic service much less a positive experience. He never made eye contact , was curt, and walked away from the table several times while we were talking to him. He has been a waiter there for years but his heart didn't seem in it last night. I recently went... about a week ago.... filled out an app ( my grama thought it was a nice place) and was called back to follow there veteran server Amy. I was shocked at how extremely dirty the place was. The back hallway leading to dish tank area was fowl. Walls, paint, floors and countertops were dirty with grime... server station was falling apart. And large amounts of dust covering everything in dining area. Not mention the extremely outdated 1980s decore... just when I thought it couldn't get worse...I went behind the bar...which hasn't been properly cleaned since the 80s. The flooring and tile are falling apart. Glass wear was dingy... the liquor bottles improperly stored and not covered. AND get this... Amy soaks the dishes in bleach!?!?! To turn the water on she actually had to crawl underneath the nasty sink and manually turned the pipes on!?!?! I was appalled. Meanwhile a table of 6 walks in and ends up spending 800+ dollars on their food and drinks... the wine that was served was spoiled and they new it...( red wine showing threw cork ) it was oxidized according to staff but served it regardless. Last but def not least while I was waiting on their food to come out...which was the only good thing about the place (recently new chef was hired) a huge spider repelled from the ceiling next to my face! Talk about nasty... the wait staff then explained that wasn't anything compared to the spiders they have seen. So next time you think about eating there think twice! Horrid. read more
