Anyway my friend asked me to stop by and pick up some "tres leches cupcakes" I got to the place and the girl who was obviously the baker (with her apron and powder on her face and hands) was super nice she came and told me about the specials they have I was specifically there for the cupcakes so I grab the dozen for $25 she just had 11 tres leches cupcakes o I asked for a carrot one to complete the dozen. They accept cash, card and Apple Pay. The place smells delicious like bread just baked, and the cupcakes once we ate them we couldn't had enough of them. The specifics: I was referred to this business through my friend who ordered a cake for her engagement party. The cake was accidentally made larger than what she ordered, but they didn't charge her extra for their mistake. While we waited for hers, we had a few of their cupcakes and we enjoyed them. The cake ended up tasting great too, so I decided to order. I tried emailing them through their website, but never received a reply. I contacted them through their Facebook so it would be easier. I wouldn't recommend this because it was a mess. I also called them later to give my deposit and confirm my order was correct. The woman I spoke to repeated my order including** the details back to me, so I didn't think there would be a problem. I couldn't go to the store to confirm my details because I live out of town. My order was $173 for: - Custom 6 inch cake (65) - 12 custom strawberry cupcakes (4.50/cupcake) - 12 custom dulce de leche cupcakes (4.50/cupcake) I sent them pictures and a linear list of the items I wanted. What was wrong: - the anchor cake didn't have pink icing detail on the top (not a huge problem) - the cupcakes didn't have the right designs The reference photo shows white icing with anchors and starfish in blue icing. I asked for 12 cupcakes with blue anchors and 12 cupcakes with pink starfish (so we could tell the cupcakes apart). I got 24 cupcakes with blue fondant anchors on white fondant with white icing below. - the cake was burned (but I couldn't know this until after we cut it) How they dealt with it: - defensive - argumentative - would not apologize - didn't offer to correct it until I asked - didn't offer an alternative/solution - blamed me for the order being wrong - told me I would need to wait an additional 3 hours - didn't offer a refund for the design being wrong on 12 cupcakes at minimum I wanted my order to be right. I didn't care for a full refund because at least i had the right flavor cupcakes. Even if they couldn't completely redo my order, they could've offered to make pink fondant starfish on white fondant so it would look cohesive or offer me some sort of reimbursement for 12 of them not having the detail I wanted. I thought the cost was going to hiring a professional, but there were way too many inconsistencies. There's no way for you to guarantee your order will be right unless you babysit them the entire way and ensure you think of enough time for them to correct any mistakes. How was the finished product? I've had better for less and I've made better The dulce de leche was plain white cake with caramel in the middle. The only thing satisfying about the strawberry cupcakes was the filling. The cupcakes were all eaten. The cake was burned. Update: at 11:11PM the following evening (33 hours after I needed the cake), they apologized and offered a credit to be used on a future cake. So reading through other reviews, this place is hit or miss. And for us, it was definitely a miss. I always wanted to try their cupcakes as they're surrounded by cute fashionable boutiques, and their shop has cute decorations. And the name "cupcake boutique".... Made me think that their cakes couldn't be bad. It was a lady who took care of us but I could definitely see why they're getting bad reviews based on their customer service. I got a red velvet cupcake and a cake ball.. (I forgot the name) but the cupcake was not even close to call it fresh. It was so dry and the frosting was hard. It just wasn't right. Do went went here yesterday and ordered a Strawberry, lemon, and carrot cake cupcake. I also ordered Macaroons. Everything came out to 25 bucks. Which I thought wad a little pricey. The macaroons were great. The box I purchased came with only 9 macaroons. The only cupcake in ate was the lemon cupcake and it didn't like that I was tasting 2 different kinds of lemon flavor in the icing and the cake itself. The flavors literally collided. The icing when I got to the middle was so thick that it felt like pudding at one point. I really wanted the red velvet but the color wasnt red and looked more chocolate..truly a bummer. Nightmare experience!! Never again! I wanted to like them as we were very excited for the three layered cake we had commissioned for a graduation. But boy, what a terrible experience- rude and abrasive for no reason. Our family has catered a number of cakes throughout El Paso and this was a never again experience. First off the cake did looked nice when we initially paid for it at the counter. We were told that we could "put it in our trunk" since it was sturdy. We opted to carry it in the front for better balance and safety (which we had done a number of times). As soon as we got into the car (full air-con nonetheless) the cake slabs began to condensate, melt and slide off each other. We literally didn't make it out of the driveway and had to turn back to ask the bakery to help us. We were met with the most despicable, argumentative, defensive and antagonistic criticisms from the owner and other employees. We were told that it was entirely our fault, that something must have happened to the sticks holding the cake together (?!there were absolutely no sticks tethering the three slabs together because it had slide off!?!). There was no semblance of apology or offer of repair. When we pressed that we needed it corrected and they could separate the slices which we would later assemble. We were told that there would be $100 repair fee and 3 hour wait, and that we were the most horrible customers and we should "never return to the store again". Because we did need the cake we waited the time and picked up the cake (without correction fee in the end)- but were made to sign a handmade 'contract' that said it if anything happened to the cake it was our fault. We were told that it was now mandatory to sign that contract (!?!). The atmosphere was unnecessarily vindictive. It was honestly dumbfounding that the experience was so awful- the personal attacks were unacceptable. There was not one iota of customer service or thoughtfulness or any apologies whatsoever. We are no strangers to commissioned cakes as we get them for birthdays and parties- but this was unreal. The experience with the Cake Boutique left us in literal tears and with a terrible experience. Do you like cheesecake? How about nutella cheesecake? Is choco flan something you're interested in? Do you like trying random cupcake flavors? For me, the answer to these questions is yes, yes, and YES!!! I know this place is better known for their cakes and cupcakes, but I decided to only choose 2 items to try during my first visit. The array of cupcakes was beautiful, and they pretty much have every flavor under the sun. I went with the nutella cheesecake, which was really fluffy and creamy, and the choco flan which was extremely decadent. They even added on some thick caramel sauce right when we ordered it! I've gotten cakes from here for many many previous events. But she's usually rude and today did it for me!! My gender reveal cake was made, but not even an hour after we got it, the elephant & rabbit that was on the cake fell off without us even touching the cake. I called to see if she can help but she initially hung up. I called again and her response was "I'm sorry but this is your fault, it is no longer my problem." We have tried putting it back together, and with that we realized the stick that's supposed to attach the elephant to the cake was WAY too short, therefore is was bound to fall off! Ummmm, no! Walked in Thursday afternoon interested in ordering a cake for college graduation in a week. The lady greeted me in Spanish, I replied in English, she replied in Spanish? Occasion? Graduation, saying this I hoped she would have been able to give me an idea of a phrase or decorations... nope. She requested that I e-mail or bring in an image showing what I want on my cake. This is good I guess if one has the time, and really cares about the exact detail of their cake but I don't, I wanted "Congratulations Graduate, class of 2013" with my school colors on it, expecting that the cake decorator should offer me some creative advice like other bakers and decorators have in the past. I read all of the reviews before heading over to The Cake Boutique. I just moved to El Paso, and was really excited to find a new sweet spot for me to indulge. Even though the reviews were bad, I thought I should give them a chance. I honestly wish I hadnt. They were probably some of the worst cupcakes I have ever had (and this is coming from someone who has dessert EVERY night, and cake/cupcakes at least once/twice a week). The cream cheese icings were WAY too thick and had been sitting out for so long that you could literally play with it and not get your fingers dirty. It was like chewing on rubber. I tried: The Almond Coconut: The cake tasted pretty good, the cream cheese icing was awful and there was some weird piece of fruit randomly stuck inside my cupcake (maybe it was supposed to be there, but it felt out of place.) The Raspberry: It was okay, the filling was nice and soft, but the icing was awful again. The cake flavor was mediocre at best. The Banana Marble (Name might not be 100% correct, but the only one they have with banana): The icing was AWFUL, you could tell she used banana extract and WAY too much of it. The cake was even too strong tasting, I disliked this one the most. Overall, I am glad I at least tried this place out so I never wondered if I was missing out on something good. I definitely wouldnt recommend this place to anyone, though. A pleasant bakery with a decent selection of cupcakes and cakes (a few mini macarons too). I ordered two cupcakes and a cup of hot chocolate. The first cupcake I ordered was a tres leches cupcake which was a flavor I had never seen before in any other bakery. It had an almond crust topping which was a bit sour, but after getting through it, the cake itself was delicious and had a milk/cream filling I gobbled up in less than a second. The second cupcake was a Despicable Me cupcake inspired after the minions. It was adorably made, but unfortunately the cake itself which was chocolate flavored was lackluster and not as exiting as the outside. For two dozen, with a buy 10 get 2 free deal, that's almost $60!! I don't know if that's normal here or what, but that's insane, especially after I just ate my cupcake. Not only were they rude to me when I walked in, they wouldn't give me a price until I told them how many guests I wanted to feed. I threw out the number 30. She said the price was $120. When I told her I thought it might be closer to 20-22 she said the price was the same. What??? OK, I was willing to pay the price because the shop offered to make the cake to my specifications . I gave them a photo of the cake I wanted, the flavor and specifically told her NO FONDANT. Just buttercream frosting. The woman wrote all the instructions I gave her for the cake on the photo I provided. I asked to pick it up the following Saturday for the special occasion. When I arrived to pick up the cake, it was completely and comically decorated with fondant. Completely! I asked why and was told I didn't ask for frosting. When I asked to see the photo I provided, the girl couldnt find it. It got thrown away. She went to get another woman who told me if I didn't want the cake she would throw it away. She hovered it over a trash can like I was going to beg her not to. "Go ahead, throw it away!" She did and had the clerk refund me my money. No apology. I felt that my event would be ruined with no special cake. It wasnt, we had a terrific time in spite of not having the cake. Do not go to this place if you are counting on the cake to be special to your event. Do not go to this place unless you appreciate a cake that looks like it is made with neon colored play-dough. After driving by for months, I finally stopped in to see if this was, perhaps, the bakery I had been missing from living in larger cities my whole life. While it isn't big on variety of offerings, it does deliver on variety of flavors and smell. Oh god, the smell when you walk in is pure sugar and happiness. Cupcakes line the bakery case in a dozen or more flavors (I've only bitten into the pumpkin one so far, but it's divine). As the name implies, it also sells larger cakes, not to mention a few tiny treats (mini-tiramisu, anyone?). They also have a sizable coffee offering, especially for not being a coffee shop. Drip, latte, mocha, etc and all the flavors of syrup you could want. A must-stop-shop for dessert. read more

Long story short: Good cakes, poor customer service. Let's start with the cakes: They are very well done, and reminiscent of the cakes you'd expect from a cakery in a larger city. The cakes (and cupcakes) have a nice supple texture and aren't overly crumbly or sweet. It might sound like a given, but getting a soft cake that maintains its shape well is not an easy task, and I think the bakers here should be commended for achieving it. Personally, my favorite type of frosting is cream cheese (on a red velvet cake), and theirs is very nice- it's tasty without being cloyingly sweet. The presentation is also quite nice, and they obviously take pride in presenting beautiful and decadent desserts. Unfortunately, the people who work here lack customer service skills, and it's bad enough to taint a good dessert. I came in, in person, on a Tuesday to order a cake for the following Friday, and the cashier wrote down my order. Come Friday, I show up to pick up my cake, and it is not ready. The staff wasted 10 minutes of my time searching for the cake before admitting they didn't have it, and then they questioned whether I had actually placed an order. I explained that I had, in fact, placed an order, and the baker came out to tell me that if I could come back later, she would bake me a cake in time for the birthday party. I said that would be an inconvenience, but luckily I had some time before I needed the cake. So, I decided to show up late to the birthday party, came back three hours later to pick up the cake, and asked if they planned to discount the cake at all for my trouble. Though a simple "no" would have sufficed, the cashier grabbed the cake (with my friend's name already written on it) and pretended to put it back in their refrigerator, saying "do you want the cake or not?". I explained that I did want the cake, and that's why I had ordered it several days ago. Then another employee came out of the back and tried to tell me that I had ordered the cake that afternoon, and that I should be grateful that the baker had put everything aside to make me a fresh cake, as if they were doing me a huge favor. I'm no expert in customer service, but I'm pretty sure you shouldn't pretend you're doing your customers a solid by fulfilling orders you agree to meet. I liked the cake, but I'm extremely disinclined to order from Cake Boutique again, because I feel that the staff is irresponsible, and I don't want to risk showing up to an event empty handed because they forget to make a cake I order. Beyond that, they obviously don't value their customers or repeat business, and so I cannot in good conscience recommend this place to my friends. The cake was like those cakes you see on the show "Nailed It". It was so awful looking that I had them call the manager who said that they would not give my deposit back even if I didn't take this joke of a cake.
