I found this establishment online while searching for a bakery that customize cakes for my sons birthday. The owner Rick took my call 1st. He was extremely friendly and professional. They worked with me for 3 days always prompt with all there responses. I worked with Ginger one of their decorators and Katie one of their staff. All extremely friendly and professional. The shop was very clean and organized. They had ready available treats for purchase. Which my boys and I enjoyed. I ordered dozens of desserts for a formal event from The Cakery and they were a big hit! I was communicating with Ginger back and forth and she was always understanding of any problems that arised when planning my event. She was very flexible in anything I needed to change and conveyed to whoever baked the desserts exactly what I wanted/asked. When I went to pick up my desserts it was closing time (although Ginger said this was fine and I called ahead of time); some of them don't quite communicate with everyone bc they were confused as to why I was coming in while they were closed lol. All good, I told them I was picking up an order and the lady obliged. As I was waiting, another lady, who was probably the most friendly in there at the time, offered me something in the case & I said "yes, please!" I was able to pay with Apple Pay bc I didn't bring any cards in. After that, she helped me put the desserts in the back of my car. The desserts we ordered were cream horns, chocolate, vanilla and red velvet cupcakes, lemon cheesecake bars, and brownie bites (miniature). The cupcakes were nice and moist and the frosting wasn't too sweet. The lemon bars were the hit of the evening of our event as there were none left. I would definitely order from here again! We had an opportunity to visit here. We are from out of town and due to allergies needed to find a vegan cake for our daughter. One of the owners - Ginger - provided us with a taste of the vegan cake and made it just like we ordered it! Now the best part - vegan cakes can many times be dry / poor consistency. This one was the best we have ever had. The cake was fluffy, the icing perfect, and the timing and appearance was exactly what we wanted. I got my husband a Black Forest Cake for his birthday. It was delicious - great proportions of the whipped cream frosting relative to the other layers. I do think it was kind of expensive (8" cake for $44 plus tax) so we will probably get something different next time. :) It was easy to order and they were very responsive to my inquiry. They were actually booked full for the day I was hoping to pick up the cake, but they offered to do it one day earlier instead since they had availability for that day - so I just kept it in the fridge for a day and it was still so delicious! Only removed 1 star due to the price. I'm from Pittsburgh, a bigger city, and can get nearly this exact cake (only difference is the exterior decoration looks a bit different) at a reputable, popular bakery for $33. read more

Called ahead to check if they had cupcakes left, as it was nearly closing time. They confirmed they had some left and would see me soon. Got there at 4:58pm and the cashier stared at me from the counter, pointing at the closed sign. I only needed 3 cupcakes and a minute of their time. Abysmal customer service. I called to very simply order a cake for a retirement party and the woman helping found every reason not to take my order for an event 6 days in advance. She stated they had plenty of cakes premade and I'd need to come there to choose a cake (I live 45 minutes away) or call the day prior to "choose what's available". I asked why i couldn't simply order a cake that said "Happy Retirement" pay over the phone and pick up when ready and she became super frustrated stating "Apparently I'm not explaining this clearly to you...Maybe I can put you on hold to find someone else to help you". I have been doing business with the cakery for years...and I have always been satisfied and loyal. 3 cakes per year plus random visits for their amazing cupcakes. Everything changes and man, let me tell you...things changed. I called to acquire a cake for 19 people and a special jumbo cupcake (German chocolate) for my wife's birthday. Her favorite is German chocolate but nobody else likes coconut. I ordered a quarter sheet cake ($30.99) and a jumbo cupcake. I was placed on hold...the lady came back and informed me that per policy I had to order at least 3 jumbo cupcakes per order. This had never been an issue in the past as I have ordered this exact thing 3 times prior...so i asked to buy 2 regular German chocolate instead of the jumbo. On hold again... she comes back saying I can't just buy 2....I have to buy 12. 12!! 3 jumbo cupcakes is WAY too much for my wife (she is watching her diet and this is a cheat meal) and obviously 12 is far too many for 1 person. I mentioned this and just got told, "Sorry, that's our policy" I told the lady that it's never been an issue in the past and I feel like the cake should fulfill any minimum that would be required. I was again told that this was not an order they could fulfill as it did not meet their requirements.... Their requirements!?!??! I'm a customer....you're a business... who exactly do they think they are to tell me it doesn't meet THEIR requirements!?!?! I told her I would just go somewhere else and she said shes sorry to hear it...wow. So after a 14 minute phone call to be told no...that was that. On the outside this cake looks beautiful. We ordered it for a 10th wedding anniversary But when we cut into the cake it was very dark dark brown hard and crunchy ...I can't believe somebody would go ahead and decorate this cake knowing that it look like this on the bottom and then sell it to a trusting customer. I called and spoke to the manager Ginger she didn't sound like she was too worried about it , she said she would take half off for the cake then I sent her pictures and told her you got to be kidding I don't think she handled this very well at all I think she should have refunded the cake and made me a new one for this total inconvenience that was totally their fault ,But that did not happen instead we got the refund and a $10 credit and a no cake for 10 th anniversary celebration. WORTH THE READ! I met a woman with the Cakery in early February 2015 to plan for my September 12, 2016 wedding. We discussed in detail the way in which I'd like my dream wedding cake to look. I imagined cute pink ruffles on a three tiered square design. Each square tier was to be offset from the tier beneath. A sketch was drawn up to generally reflect what we had discussed. I was specific in the design of ruffles so to be thin and short, and the colors to start as a pink ombré turning to white as it rose and ended grey on the top tier. (Even providing a colored photo to represent the most important details). Everything sounded perfect. I was reassured it was within the capabilities of the cake design team, and after reviewing books upon books of photos of elegant works of art, I felt more than comfortable with our decision to chose The Cakery. That is until my wedding day came. My mother arrives to The Cakery to pick up the cake, only to find a disaster. She quickly sent over a photo for me to review. My heart nearly stops. The ruffles were not as we spoke, overlapping and sagging. The squared tiers were no where near properly offset. And then... The top tier was......... GREEEEEEEN!!!!! Dark. Forrest. GREEN. Instantly tears come down my face. I instantly call The Cakery to only be told there is no way to reach the color grey I had requested, however no one in the 7 months had that been mentioned to me. After many unkind words were shared in anger I request the top tier be corrected. An hour late I receive another photo and the tier was still GREEN! After being told there was nothing else they could do to correct the issue (keep in mind my wedding colors were pewter grey, begonia pink, white and black). I was distraught that somehow I had to accept that my cake was now going to be pink and GREEN. Finally I demand that they again scrape the green icing off, and replace it with white. Now with green spots, awful, lousy, rushed ruffles I had paid nearly $400 dollars for junk. I did not appreciate the screw up, nor how the mistake was handled by the associates. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY AGAIN and I will do my best to make sure no one else does, without knowing the story behind the lies. read more

I was so disappointed. As I walked in, so did a handful of other people, and the sudden influx of customers caused the employees to become stressed and the customer service definitely suffered. Since it was my first time, I wanted to check everything out before I decided. But the owner was very rude and kept pressuring me to pick so I just picked a random one. It was tiny and not worth $2. In the one of many bakery stops while I was in Dayton I went to the cakery. The owner was very friendly and offered me a shot of his famous Buttercream, which he was very proud of. It was ok, I am just not that big of a fan of just buttercream, I prefer what is underneath. I got an oatmeal cookie which was very good but still just a cookie. Also their chocolate caramel buttercream cupcake which was priced very well but still so overloaded in buttercream the poor cupcake collapsed and all I tasted was cream. We have used this place for my two children's birthdays for the past 3 years. I bring in a photo of a cake (without copyright stuff) and they are able to make the most beautiful cakes!! I splurge and do fondant, which they make in house (marshmallow based). The artist is amazing. She really takes her time even though they do so many cakes. Best part is the cake tasts amazing too! Found a gem in Riverside!!! Actually in all of Dayton! I first tried the Cakery when at a work event someone brought in one of their carrot cakes. The carrot cake was amazing and probably one of the best I have had. The cake was moist and delicious. The frosting was sweet yet not overpowering. Next, I decided to travel there and I tried their cupcakes. I also ordered a couple of cakes for some special occasions; the cakes were fresh, and the buttercream superb. Recently we used The Cakery for a gender reveal party for our upcoming child. The party was set for a sunday (The Cakery is closed on sundays) so we picked up the cake the day before on saturday. Come party time when cut into the cake we were quite disappointed to find that the entire bottom half the cake was uncooked! Due to this we had to serve the top cooked half to our guests and discard the bottom half which was just essentially raw cake batter. The following monday we called The Cakery to explain what had happened. I expected a full refund since you would assume any boutique cake shop to be absolutely ashamed of serving uncooked cake. Instead I was spoken to quite rudely by the manager and only given a partial refund for the cake. The cost of the cake broke down as follows, 34.99 for the cake itself 5.99 to dye the cake for the gender reveal The manager informed me that she would refund us the 34.99 for the cake but would not be refunding us the 5.99 for the icing dye because "we got that part right". I was completely floored. I tried explaining how ridiculous that was but the manager (Polly I believe was her name) was quite rude. Needless to say we will NOT be ever coming back here. read more

I recently used the Cakery for my bridal shower cake and my wedding cake after my now mother in law insisted that this was the best cake in Dayton and the only option for our wedding. We did not go anywhere else! I was rather disappointed after my bridal shower cake was not decorated at all to our specifications even after my mother in law had personally visited the store twice to insure that it was what we wanted. I can slightly forgive that it was not exactly decorated as we asked because frankly the cake itself is good but the bleeding black piping around the cake (which she specifically asked for NO BLACK PIPING) made it look like a goth wedding cake and not a happy occasion. Then came my wedding cake. About a week before the wedding I received a call from a lady stating that she wanted some clarification on the decoration of the cake because the consultant that I had worked with was no longer there and she did not have copies of the pictures I provided to her on the specifications of the design. So I emailed them to her and my mother in law went back into the Cakery (because I live out of state) and made sure that my requests were understood. Once again the cake design did not come out at all as we asked. I asked for an ombre turquoise from the bottom of the cake up with it fading into white and then a gold top of the cake with the gold cascading down giving the reverse ombre effect. I received an all turquoise cake with a completely gold top. I am rather disappointed that I spent nearly $800 on this cake and it did not turn out at all as I asked it too. Especially since there was pictures, phone calls and visits to the store to make sure that it was communicated properly. read more

I've been ordering cakes from The Cakery EXCLUSIVELY for the last five years. There are 20 in my family and Im always the one in charge of picking up and ordering the cakes for birthdays and parties. Anytime I'm entertaining whether at home or church there are always tasty treats from The Cakery present. I love to sing their praises! Recently, I hosted a Kentucky Derby Bridal shower. My intention was for the cupcakes to be the "WOW! factor" of the party. As always, I send my husband to pick up the cakes since he works close. On this particular occasion I was very disappointed in the presentation. No doubt they would have passed for a child's party, but I really needed perfect and this one order did not meet my standards, because The Cakery never misses! I was in tears. My mom called the shop after hours and left a message. At 9am the very next morning the owner returned our call and said that he had already remade our order! No questions asked! I cried again! They could have very easily said "sorry, you saw what it looked like when you picked it up!" And moved on with their very busy Saturday. Sure enough, the new set of cupcakes were absolutely breathe taking! At any rate my party was perfect and everyone was blown away by the cupcakes. Thank you, Thank you! I just purchased my first cake for my daughter's birthday and couldn't be happier. I called to ask if they could make the cake I was wanting and at first was told they were not taking any additional orders for the weekend but they went ahead and placed my order for me anyway. I appreciate they were willing to take my order with just about 24 hours notice. They explained all the flavor options over the phone and reviewed my order for accuracy.
