Wow! Val's rivals Columbus's Dan the Baker and is absolutely worth the morning weekend drive to Dayton to get your very own! We took a quick trip from columbus to Dayton and were instantly impressed. This is definitely a cafe that loves its city and features many locally made wares. We got the garlic cream cheese danish, the Kellie pie danish, the orange monkey bread, and the buttered croissant. My only problem was that the croissant was covered in a brushing of sugar syrup and it would have been nice for it to just be a butter croissant. It was still delicious and perfectly fine just wish it would have been named more appropriately:) Staff are efficient but kind as there is always a line out the door. We were lucky to still grab some seats inside on a hot day; however, there is well shaded seating outside as well. 4 pastries are a lot for 2 people so we could not try any more. Stopped in mid morning since I was in the area and had heard lots of raves about Val's. Well, let me say that many of their selections look like works of art. There is a large indoor seating area. There is some street parking. If I had been parked better I would've lingered. Instead I chose 4 items to take away in a box. I enjoyed everything. They have some really interesting pastries and also the more typical ones. It's on the high $ side. In my opinion it's a treat, a special event kind of place. Fresh Pastries & Great Atmosphere! This is such a cute little shop! The staff was incredibly friendly, and there is plenty of space inside to sit down and relax. The food and drinks definitely lived up to the hype: * Coffee: Solid - I had a regular latte (breve) with an extra shot. * Caprese Croissant: Absolutely delicious. You can tell they use high-quality, fresh ingredients. * Matcha Croissant: The matcha itself was overly sweet which is part of the outer coat of the croissant. The inside was filled with cream and jam that balanced perfectly--you could actually taste the fruit and cream without it being overly sweet. My sisters and I went to Vals bakery for breakfast on a recent birthday trip. We heard great things about the bakery, and I had it on my bucket list for quite a while. I was even more drawn in by the fact that they specialize in Matcha drinks. I think we ordered about 1/3 of the desserts in the display case. One of my sisters is gluten-free, so she got a gluten-free cinnamon roll from a bakery they they partner with to supply their gluten-free desserts. I forgot to take a photo of the name cards, so I don't remember exactly what everything was called. We tried the raspberry Matcha croissant, the cozy croissant, a honey croissant cookie (basically a cookie made of croissant dough), a cinnamon roll, focaccia, a strawberry mascarpone croissant, a Caprese danish type pastry, a garlic cream cheese danish type pastry, a banana bread iced chai latte, and a strawberry Matcha latte. The pastries were all 10/5 stars-- truly. The Caprese one was topped with the best pesto Ive ever had. The garlic cream cheese one could be eaten for breakfast every day. The loxxy croissant was stuffed with smoked salmon and cream cheese and was so tasty that my sister who doesn't eat seafood, liked it and said she could eat a whole one herself. Everything bagel seasoning created a crunch on top that was just perfect. The strawberry mascarpone was a personal favorite for me. It just was so perfectly executed and the flavors we're all on point. It had strawberry cheesecake vibes, but the filling was lighter since it was mascarpone. The raspberry Matcha croissant was actually one of my least favorite items, though I did still really like it. It seemed like it was filled with both blackberries and raspberries, but I didn't mind. It was just significantly sweeter than the other desserts and maybe a bit much for me. However, I finished it the next day and really enjoyed every last piece of sugar. I'm thinking maybe in contrast to the other items, I just wasn't liking this one as much, but when it was standing on its own, it was great! The cinnamon roll was everything a cinnamon roll should be! It was even better because they warmed it up for us. The honey croissant cookie was simple and satisfying. I would eat those anytime. Sometimes it's nice to just enjoy a more simple dessert. The focaccia was some of the best any of us had ever had. I tried my sister's chai and thought it was really good, albeit too sweet for me to have ordered myself . Sadly my Matcha was too sweet as well, so I'm not sure I would order another. I was disappointed about that part since it's something the bakery is known for. The outside and inside of the bakery are both really cute! Everything is decorated nicely. They sell a little bit of boutique style clothing and some branded goods near the front. The staff taking our order were honestly not the friendliest, but I will chock that up to us being annoying, taking too long to decide which 10 items we wanted. We let everyone who came in after us go before us, but I'm sure we were still annoying. The staff who took over later in our visit when we went back up to order even more drinks and pastries were very friendly! Overall, a fantastic visit. I am sad to not live closer, but actually that's probably a good thing for my wallet and pant size. If you are in Dayton and considering a visit to Val's bakery, do it. I visited their Miamisburg, Ohio location and discovered that their shop was elegantly appointed, clean as a pin, the service staff was courteous beyond any possibility of fault, their prices for their products were reasonable, their offerings were fairly extensive, the day I was there the establishment was virtually packed with customers, there was a waiting line that extended for some distance outside their door, but it was moving along nicely. I've been a looooong time fan of Val's since they used to be located inside of Dished! And when they were on Brown Street! This location is incredible. It's so cozy with couches and fireplaces, and the beautiful murals. I love to meet friends there. I always check Instagram before going, because they do a great job of communicating there ever since going viral! Very cute and aesthetically pleasing bakery. Expect SUPER long lines -- people are generally lined up outside 30 min before opening time and it gets worse throughout the morning. All the locals recommended we visit Val's alert for some sweets. They are closed on Monday and Tuesday but we made our way down later in the week. They have a variety of cookies, pastries, muffins, scones, etc. they also have a variety of flavors including some unique flavors. The bakery does seem like a popular place as there was a steady line. There are also several areas to sit and eat inside. The line moves quickly and the staff was friendly and helpful. We tried a key lime pastry, a brownie and a shortbread cookie. The cookie was delicious with traditional shortbread flavor and the key lime pastry had great flavor as well. This was my second trip to Val's and I will definitely make an effort to go more regularly. I had the blueberry crumble pop tart and shared the loaded potato scone. Just typing that makes my mouth water. I've never had anything like either one and I was delighted with both. All the pastries looked AMAZING. Weird detail, but I also appreciated that my hot tea was not a commercial tea bag. It was clearly loose leaf that they bagged fresh. My favorite bakery, not just in Dayton, but ever! I have been eating up these pastries since 2021 and they have brought me so much joy these last few years. They always keep customers on their toes with a seasonal menu that changes. Im always excited to see what they come up with next. They are one of the few places in Ohio that offer authentic, laminated pastries and I feel so lucky to have them close by. I am never in Dayton however, I saw a video or something on TikTok and the pastries looked amazing. I remembered this just from that one video I saw several months ago. This place is small, quaint, quiet. The staff was great and knowledgeable. They almost sold me on multiple things but I was on a time crunch. So, when I found myself in Dayton for a work training I had to get the Strawberry Mascarpone pastry. It was AMAZING! I didn't get any pictures unfortunately, but I promise you it was so good. This famous Dayton bakery was fairly packed on Friday morning and has a line out the door on the weekends. The seating is spacious and inviting, with a beautiful pastry display at the front. The service is also really friendly and gave us great recommendations on what their favorites were. To start off, the coffee was very average, but a welcome accompaniment to the baked goods. The smoked salmon croissant was very tasty and had a nice balance of cream cheese and smoked salmon. The goat cheese and berry danish was flaky and creamy, but the balance of ingredients was not quite there as it was very heavy on the cream cheese and the flavor of The berry jam was too strong. The Matcha and strawberry cube had the best texture of all the pastries we tried, and the Matcha filling was absolutely incredible, but the strawberry center had a little bit too much of an artificial sweet taste. Overall, this is a great bakery, but it is just outside of that elite tier, which houses Cincinnati favorites like Brown Bear and Sebastian's. read more

We were orginally going to have it here but realized there was no seating for our family of 6, business is going well. I felt bad they had to dirty 6 plates to end up boxing it so we could take it to go, but the staff was very patient and kind. Seems like they are working on how to get drink orders out. You get a metal number and just kinda wait. The first drink was a cold brew, and they just set it on the cart by the bar with the number written on it. My pour over.. they just set on the counter, with no number or marking... so I had to ask. When I left and took a sip, I realized they put creamer or something in it. It was not pleasant. I wanted a straight black and did not ask for any creamer. I did not go back since we were already out the door... We would definitely come back for the pastry. Triple berry was moist, flaky and a little crisp. The scone was so good my picky 3 year old devoured it, the sausage had been well made with good flake and flavor. Their poptart was well loved by my husband? With great falvor. Their bagel looks like a local microbakery (bootlet bagel) and those are really good new your style bagels. I have been seeing this spot all over social media, and knew I had to pop in the next time I was in the Dayton area. Heads up that you'll want to arrive earlier in the day if you want to pick up something specific! We didn't have a chance to pop in before noon, but still managed to snag a few goodies to take home. The inside of the shop is bright and modern, with colorful curated touches throughout. There was a short line, but it moved quickly! We grabbed a few pieces of their focaccia, which was light and crusty and full of flavor. We also took home a couple of brownies, which are incredible! Moist, thick, and fudgy, with that crackley crust on top that's to die for. There is a limit on pastries right now at two per person, because this spot is so popular! We ordered the chocolate croissants, chocolate cookie, pepperoni croissant, ube lemon cake and honey cake. Everything was amazing and absolutely delicious. The pastries were not too sweet but full of flavors. The pastries tasted fresh and homemade. These are definitely not processed pastries from a box. We met the owner Paige and she kindly explained to us the long process of making these croissants and we were thoroughly impressed. These amazing croissants take three days to process and make. I highly recommend this super cute boutique bakery and would suggest arriving at 7:00 am when they open if you want fresh croissants like the almond or the caprese croissants. This place is closed on Mondays and Tuesday so check their schedule. You can only purchase (2) per a flavor so I tried one of each totaling $35.00. I was so excited to try this place and was beyond disappointed in the quality of the croissants. They were hard as a rock and we couldn't eat them. I reached out to the owner to share my disappointment after driving so far and based on other reviews who had a bad experience she basically blamed me as if I didn't know how a croissant should taste and that there's nothing wrong with her pastries and I just didn't know what I was ordering which blew me away that she wasn't at all empathetic or apologetic for my experience and this was a major turn off. As someone who also is in food industry and owned a small business I would never treat a customer like that and would refund them and try to make the situation better. She lacks complete accountability and blames the customer if you're dissatisfied. Btw I ordered four different croissants and they all were hard as a rock. Will not return. read more

I received a gift certificate so we went yesterday to try this bakery. we arrived at 7:50 am and found that parking was free at the meters before 8 am. There was only one person in front of us and the gentleman that waited on us was knowledgeable and friendly. Chocolate Croissant-In the croissant there were maybe four of batons. The parts with the chocolate were really good. The rest was just a croissant and was a little dry. Cost $5.50 Caprese Croissant- This was the best of what we purchased.
