This "Mortal Sin" should be renamed the Sugar Shack!!!!! This iconic hotbed of happiness has more sugar under roof than Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Not really, but I'd bet it's pretty damn close. The Candy Kitchen is one of those nostalgic places that you wish you had gone to sooner and the one that you'll dearly miss when you leave. It is a little cramped inside but is packed with all the old school candies like jumbo jawbreakers and giant suckers. They have almost everything to make sure you keep the dentists in business. We went there for satisfy our craving for some good ice cream and boy were we glad we went here. The first thing that you need to know about the Candy Kitchen is that they give generous portions. I think a "junior" is enough for 1 person and the "single" is enough for 2 to share. We got a single which came with 3 scoops of ice cream of our choice. We got the Marti's Mix, Chocolate Brownie, and Butterscotch Oreo. The ice cream was rich and creamy and fully of flavor. The best thing was that the price was under four dollars. My advice is to stay away from all those touristy ice cream shops of John's Pass Boardwalk and instead check out this gem that you'll cherish forever. read more

Apparently there used to be an ice cream truck on the roof but it got blown away by a hurricane or a tropical storm... Check everything out at this place. Everything is decorated! Even the bathroom! Candy everywhere. Of all types too! Things you may only remember from your childhood! The assortment is amazing:) Then theres the ice cream! Tiny place, big flavor. All the ice cream we had was amazing. Super creamy and strong flavors. Highly recommend the Froot Loops and Peanut butter Oreo flavors. Tons of fun candy options with some rare candies you can't find many places. The service was excellent. The guy scooping up the ice cream was super patient with our group of 10 and was cracking jokes with us the whole time. Definitely will be back here on my next trip to Madeira Beach. read more

We read about this place and decided to stop last night. The line was out the door and thankfully there were some people in front of us with experience here. They told us that the inside was small, so people just took turns going in. Glad we waited though! They had the best pistachio ice cream I've ever had and I've had plenty. A great selection of candy, too! The best thing though, was the service. When I needed napkins for a three year old's sticky situation, they were so great and even offered up a cup of water. I visited the one in Tennessee a couple of months ago and was amazed. I am very happy I found this one in St Pete. They are super well located to the area and the parking is a plenty. They also have picnic chairs outside to sit and enjoy. There is no space inside to eat or hang around. When you pull up there is always a line to go in so do not expect to spend too much time inside. The order process is excellent and the line moved pretty fast. I had the waffle bowl with butter pecan and birthday cake flavors. I also added the chocolate frost. This is a staple for this area and I would recommend any one that wants sweets to stop by this location. read more

Stopped off here during a site seeing drive. Not much to say. The staff was super friendly. Parking was tight. We had a frozen banana and chocolate covered cookie dough. Nothing to write home about. The cookie dough was hard. Not frozen just too hard for the little spoon they give you to eat it with. We also got some candy and a bottled water total was around 8 bucks not too back. This place is wall-to-wall candy and ice cream. When looking for a specific sugary treat, if you can't find it here, you won't find it anywhere. My father specifically asked "Do they have Zagnut?" Why, yes, Papa, they most certainly do. Their ice creams are out of this world. Thick and creamy, coming in as many flavors as you can imagine. Mix and match to your choosing. This place is so awesome! A small spot I've been so curious to try and always over passed. Took my parents for a walk on the beach. A cold, windy Florida winter day and my mom had wanted frozen yogurt a few days prior. I wasn't familiar with the are so I pulled out my handy dandy......no, not notebook, but my cell with my Yelp app! Typed in "frozen yogurt", and scanned through my results. Looking at each place listed, and when I saw The Candy Kitchen, it spiked my interest. Upon walking in, we were greeted by a gentleman behind the counter. Super friendly and funny. Every wonder how a kids feel when they walk into a huge candy shop?! Well, even for this tiny place, I felt like a 5 year old in candy paradise! Big managa eyes, a spot of drool on the corner of my mouth. This place is amazing! Filled with candies, old time candies, homemade fudge and of course homemade ice cream! I was in a daze and had ice cream sprinkles zipping around my head! We were able to try as many flavors as we wanted. So my mom tried the Turtle and my dad and I both tried the Pistachio. And we were SOLD on it! My mom got the turtle on a sugar cone. Sadly, after 2 licks, it ended up in the floor! :( I picked it up and told the guy I'd pay for this and another scoop for my mom, but he told me "no, I saw it coming". He got my mom another scoop and placed in a cup with her come on top. My dad got a junior sized pistachio and I got a regular with Pistachio and Pumpkin Marshmallow. Pistachio was the best I've ever had! The pumpkin marshmallow was smooth and in a weird way...fluffy. Make sense? No, but it was so worth it!!! My mom spotted her childhood favorite candy, Squirrel Nut Zippers and Had to have a few. .10cent each, so se only wanted 4. I told her take more! She was like, "they were 2 for a penny when I was a kid." Haha I love those stories. And being in this tiny sweet candy shop, I know it triggered childhood memories. So happy!! We were able to enjoy our ice cream outside at their long picnic table. And the coolest thing, the bathroom. Ok weird I know, but when I went in to wash the sticky off my hands, the walls were all diff types of candy wrappers! I am so happy I finally had a chance to come here and especially with my parents. This place is really cute. Lots of retro candies and toys! I love that it's a family owned place. The teenager working when I went got a phone call and it was his mom making sure everything was going okay. Very sweet to see. I got the black raspberry ice cream which was delicious and a great texture even after being in the freezer. I also got the big mouth and a frozen banana. I was saving them for after lunch but I wish I hadn't stored them in my freezer because the chocolate fudge froze on. Hint: Check out the restroom before you go inside. I'm not trying to prank you. It's well worth a look, and some pics (but for the love of all that is holy, just don't drop the camera!). I've never seen another like it. This place is childhood nostalgia brought to life. Incredible, top-qual homemade iced cream & fudge. They also stock almost every old-school type of candy known to mankind. I have been known to stop by to simply stock up on my Abba Zaba stash (who knew they still made it?). Not the fanciest place on the beach, but the best for sure. Protip: on a very hot day don't even think of getting a double cone. There is no inside seating and you WILL lose half the cone to melt as you eat it outside. The singles are pretty damn huge anyway, so it works out. It's a fun game trying to keep up with the melting by furiously targeted speed-licking - plus my girlfriend seems to think it is good training for something...a bit of a side bonus? I take all visitors from out of town here for a reason: it is incredibly unique and memorable - and unlike any other place they would have ever been, except perhaps in vague childhood memories. How can you not like an independent ice cream/candy shop? My experience here was short and sweet - walked in the door ten minutes before closing, fought for a view of the ice cream options, ordered and paid for some ice cream, and tried to work my way out of the group of people that came in five minutes after us. The shop itself can hold maybe six people with some bumping into each other. There's a lot of "stuff" inside - this isn't one of those minimalist stores, and there's sweet, sugary, diabetic coma-inducing options everywhere. Candy, ice cream, fudge, and I'm sure there was stuff I couldn't even see because there were so many people in a tiny space. I ended up getting some carrot cake ice cream, and while it wasn't registering in my head as carrot cake, it was a nice change from the generic non-chocolate options. read more
