I'll start by saying I came here every day I was here for the week. I checked out other ice cream shops but none could compare to this place. When I first walked in the manager was so welcoming and he let me try as much as I wanted and my girlfriend as well. He offered great suggestions and told us about the ice creams. He told us him and his wife work there and that the ice cream is all made in house. In fact they supply ice cream to other parlors in John's Pass. This is the place to be if you want smooth, creamy, delicious ice cream. They have something called spinners, special ice cream flavor creations that they have for a week or two and then replace them with new creations. Their serving sizes are hugeee. One scoop is like thee scoops and you can pick more than one flavor and the double scoop is like 5-7 scoops. No exaggeration. The coconut ice cream was my favorite, the manager was welcoming and informative and personable. The shop was very interesting, small and cozy, lots of character to it. My only gripe is that some of the other workers there kind of sucked and I didn't get consistent service every time I went unless it was the manager. The manager had told me it was hard to keep the place staffed because the kids/ young adults he hired quit as quickly as he'd finish training a new person. I loved this place, I went twice a day some days because of the ice cream but also because of the service when it was good. I hope you guys will love it and bring you happiness as much as it did for me. P.s. I wish they made their own waffle cones in house but the manager said the equipment wouldn't really fit in such a tiny space and it's just extra stuff to worry about. Love Candy Kitchen at Madeira Beach. The ice cream is amazing here and is always fresh with great flavors. They make their ice cream and have different concoctions daily. My favorite is the Twinkie ice cream. The staff are always friendly and helpful too. My son loves the selection of candy too. read more

A tiny place with so much going for it. The ice cream was amazing. I had a small and I think I should have inquired about a smaller size because it was so rich and filling. I had the malted milk ice cream and it was excellent. Creamy and flavorful. The selection of "old time" candy was impressive. My friends and I, vacationing from Iowa, had lots of fun reminding each other of the various candies. We all took home our own little brown sacks of our favorites. Very reasonably priced. The taffy was good too. Next time I'm back in the area I'm stopping for one of their ice cream treats...they looked amazing. read more

I was looking forward to visiting the candy kitchen but I am walking away less excited. The store is cute and tucked into an old strip mall from the 60's. It has very limited parking. Friendly staff. Reasonable prices, but I was disappointed in the selection of ice cream, no dark chocolate flavor. The ice cream was also not smooth or creamy. Personally I would have preferred gelato, but if you are in a crunch on a hot day it could satisfy your desire for a frozen treat. Kayla N is the best Employee of their establishments she works at all of them and should be running them! if you ever have the chance absolutely get her as your server?. I used take my 7 year old son there every Thursday when she worked.He has several food allergy's she goes above and beyond to be kind and sensitive about which candy he can and cannot (to him). The home-made ice cream here was unbelievably impressive to me as they are all made from natural ingredients. People can sample every flavor they want here before getting the one they love. There were roughly twenty flavors to try, even something like pink cotton candy, blue cookie monster, colorful superman, and rum raisin. I would recommend the sweet pecan butter ice cream, which had an intense vanilla scent and chopped pecan inside, with waffle and hot chocolate fudge on top. They have the signature dish of banana split: the banana on the bottom with your choice of three ice cream flavors, whipping cream, hot chocolate fudge, peanut or almond, and a cherry on top. You can get tons of candy here. The shop is quite small as there was only outdoor seating, while most of the space inside was filled by people waiting in line. read more

Awesome ice cream with huge portions. Order a size less than you normally would. I had chocolate brownie and malt fudge swirl. They were both excellent! The best ice cream on the beach!! Has the feel of an old candy shop when you were a kid, with all the candies that we loved as children. All their ice cream is homemade with big delicious chunks. You pass through a small portal (door) and wind your way around Gum Drop Mountain (salt water taffy counter) and through Candy Cane Forest (the loooong line to get ice cream). My teenage memories run amuck when thinking of this place. Back when gas was cheap and a Friday night out for a bunch of 16 year olds was driving Gulf Blvd all the way from Pass-a-Grille to Clearwater Beach playing a game called Padiddle (Google it and you're welcome). Candy Kitchen was always a stop along the way to stock up on as much sugar teenage fuel as possible. Every candy type is there. Ice cream is awesome. Bathroom is wallpapered in candy wrappers that make you think you're tinkling at Willy Wonka's house. All tourists and locals alike must come here once (teenage to elderly).
