I only go for the Salt Water Taffy, unfortunately, it was not as fresh as the one in Old Town always is, called Cousins Candy. There they make Salt Water Taffy fresh every hour on the hour for the same price per pound; $12.50. Good location, and clean. When I asked the lady how fresh her taffy was, she claimed not to know, but said that "Taffy lasts a long time before going bad". Comforting thought. read more

Walked in here cause my daughter wanted candy. As I walked in, there was an array of assorted candies from M&M's to gummy bears. They even sell pez dispensers, and old school candy. Their candy is a little expensive. They basically weigh your candy by the pound. Not sure how much they charge per pound. Selection is a lot but the store is pretty clean. I didn't really get anything but my daughter got pop rocks and a lollipop. She was happy with what she got. There's metered parking or you can park in the underground parking. This place was awesome! Found it by accident while waiting for a brunch table across the street. I love bulk candy stores like this and this place had everything I like. They have retro candy (think Bit-O-Honey, sour soda bottles, etc) and the regular stuff. A little pricey ($4.00 / quarter pound), but I guess who needs 1/4 pound of candy? (Me). Wow! First bite into my first truffle and I just had to leave a review! This is rare for me. So I previously stopped in here when I had a special cupcake order and needed jelly bellies. Of course they have a variety of options & I was able to find what I needed. Tonight I went in because I had a "five stars" promo for truffles. I first chose the tiramisu and then the cappuccino. My first bite into the tiramisu and here I am on yelp! So creamy. So good. Just the perfect amount, just a few sweet bites. The candy is a little expensive, but there is a good variety, and you can get your parking validated. $3 purchase to get your parking validated (which is a 1/4 of a lb.) The pineapple gummy bears were so flavorful and delicious. We also got some sour peach rings, Swedish Fish, and some sour apple gummies. If you're craving something sweet they have walls full of everything from sour to sweet to delicious chocolate candies. Located in Village Hillcrest Mini Mall. I am a fan of caramels of all kinds as well as milk chocolates and sweetnsour candies. My favorite candies are Sweet Tarts (all sizes and forms), Spree, Grapefruit chews- white and pink, pixie sticks, fun-dip, you get the picture- any powdered tart sugary substance has the same effect on me as cocaine does on others. Well, the selection is very good, and I was curious about the "hellish" caramels, and I asked the old lady who worked there if they were spicy. She shrugged, said she had no idea and told me to taste one. Very tasty, and I put one in the bag. Then I happened to ask if this was her store, and she said no, she just worked there. Mistake #1. Then I asked her if I could sample another chocolate and she got a bit testy about it. Mistake #2. I ended up taking just a little nibble for the taste and putting the rest in the bag to pay for it because I'm a guilty shameful sucker like that. You might call that Mistake #3... This place is VERY small, but it's just a more expensive version of Sweet Factory, except this place sells the old fashion candy. Candy I haven't seen since I was a little girl running after an ice cream truck. They sell those candied ciggarettes there, and delicious salt water taffy! Cute little place to get your sugar fix in the gayborhood. It's about $13 per pound but they have a decent selection. They have saltwater taffy, jelly beans, gummies and even an M&M machine! They also have chocolates. It can be pretty overwhelming if you have a sweet tooth. I got the two chocolate bombs - espresso and Grand Marnier. Both were very good and I would love to try their other flavors. My partner got saltwater taffy, Pop Rocks and chocolate-covered gummy bears. So much candy! This place is awesome! I was looking for some mexican candy in the Mission Hills/Hillcrest area and you couldn't believe how hard it is to find! I even looked at a few candy stores in Old town and count find what I was looking for! Not only do they have an assortment of Mexican candies but they also have truffles, fudge, and at least 50 bins of various candy! Not only that but the cashier/possible owner(?) was super friendly and helpful! Pricing is awesome compared to other candy stores. I love this tiny little shop with it's huge candy selection & it's train running above, you can totally get the kid in a candy shop vibe visiting this place! They make their fudge and it's delicious. I love peanut butter fudge and make my own but if I just want a little bit and don't want to fuss over the mess, it's just easier to go to Candy Depot. They also have a huge selection of candy, lots of gummies, chocolate covered candies, salt water taffy, jelly bellys & beautiful truffles. Super reasonable prices too. The staff is super nice and they validate parking if you want to park in the annoying narrow garage downstairs. I don't know why Swedish Fish are my favorite, I think it takes me back to a time when I was but a wee lad of 5 or 6. I would always go to the cigar shop with my Dad so he could shoot the shit with his friends. They had this awesome candy counter and the owner would always give me a handful of Swedish Fish. I would munch them as I walked around the store in a state of sensory overload; looking at taxidermy animals, old shotguns and girlie magazines, hearing the boards creak beneath my feet and the clanging bell on the door and smelling the odors of cedar and tobacco mingling in the air. Shit was cool then. I would always save the green Swedish Fish to eat last. They were my favorite. Well, they still are. There's nothing quite like a little sugar, corn syrup, modified corn starch, citric acid, carnauba wax, and artificial flavors and colorings to get your blood sugar soaring and turn you into a spazzy little kid again. WOW I feel like a giant in this itty bitty store. They have a big selections of different candy from old skool to new but it's so cramped into one small space on a crowded day you probably won't get to see everything. Luckily this time I went in there no one was there but one couple. I got to look around & take my time without feeling rushed due to over crowding. I went in for two reasons... 1. My g/f was looking for root beer candy(they only had sugar free) 2. I had to have my parking validated because I went into UO & they don't validate. The service was ok, she was on the phone the entire time I was at the counter, it must've been hard trying to help me the customer & hold a convo on the phone also. She was friendly when she wasn't on the phone. I'd go back ONLY if they turn up the AC & knock out a wall or two so I won't feel like Andre the giant in there. read more

My friend had just finished working out at the nearby fitness center, and wanted some candy (great choice right?) so we both headed in to the Candy Depot. We were greeted by a middle-aged woman who appeared to be Armenian, or Persian, and she didn't seem all that enthused to have some customers. I looked around, and found a decent selection of candies--though by no means impressive--as well as a weird assortment of baby dolls in military uniforms. Curiously, the prices weren't posted, or were small and/or difficult to find. I later found out why. My friend and associate made his selections, and somehow, the *final* total came to around $26--an outrageous sum, for the actual amount of candy we obtained. It was then that I realized why the prices weren't so readily apparent (this lady was pricing the stuff like sugary gold). To add to the offense, she was completely hostile, and unfriendly towards us (both words being more or less synonyms I know, but I wanted to add EMPHASIS to how much of a [insert expletive here] she was). While being rang up, my friend tried engaging her in a bit of well-meaning small talk by asking her how business was on Valentine's Day, which she more or less ignored. The initial figure she obtained was incorrect, it being something like $23. As my friend was getting out his wallet, she blurted out, "wait, I didn't add this item that you put down," as if to suggest that he was trying to con her out of her candy. For the foregoing reasons, we have decided, in addition to not patronizing this store any further, to hereby dub the petty tyrant running it as, 'The Candy Cunt.' So, if you like getting treated like shit, and overcharged for candy, come on down to the Candy Depot. read more

It's open until 10/10:15, depending on traffic! haha. That's what the worker told us. This place has a huge selection of Jelly Bellies! They had every flavor of JBs I wanted plus lots more. The JBs were pretty fresh too! Other than that, they had a good variety of other candies. The highlight was gummies made to look like sunny side up eggs. They also had some interesting chocolates in a case up front. Prices were a little high, but that was to be expected. I think it was like $11/lb for the JBs at least. read more

I use to love coming here as a kid. I decided to come back and the lady working was sitting on the floor, refilling the candy bins and did not even say hello. I went straight for a box of jelly beans and held it while loading candy in my bag. While searching for candy I am getting death stares from the lady working. I don't know what it was, did she think I was going to steal a $6 box of jelly beans? It made me so uncomfortable. She still sat there while I was trying to get to a certain candy and she would not move. Ridiculous. Please note candy depot, you are the only store that sells candy.
