Big selection for a small shop. Whatever you do, don't buy the truffles. The girl at the register really hyped it up and kept talking about how they were "sooooo good", but it was honestly just a sugary dome of disappointment and not worth the money. I would even go as far as saying that a year old Russel Stover Valentines Day box has better truffles than Candy Depot. I picked the Chocolate Caramel, White Decadence, and Crème Brûlée. They all tasted the same and left that weird, tingly feeling in your mouth when you've had too much sugar. Just stick to the chocolates in the bins. read more

When my monthly visitor shows up, eating a few sugar-free chocolates doesn't make her seem like too much of a moocher. Furthermore, I don't really have a sweet tooth, but this place makes it hard to keep one from sprouting out. I only eat sugar-free candy, and despite the small size of this shop, they have a GREAT selection of sugar-free chocolates and other candies. I like the chocolate covered nuts, turtles, and they even have sugar-free root beer hard candies. YUM! The guy who was working here was funny as hell, and very funny. I mean, buying candy from a depressing person would suck, but this guy made Willy Wonka look like a Nazi Satanist, so I was, needless to say, pleased with the customer service. Previous reviews talked about less than pleasant employees, but I can be happy to say that the bubbly woman with the pink hair is quite the opposite. She is extremely friendly and fun to talk to. She mentioned that she just started a few weeks ago when she was buying her own truffles and the owner LOVED her personality! Also, the deal for validated parking is totally legit. People are complaining that it's a trick, but you might as well go in and buy $3 worth of candy rather than just paying $3 for parking and walking out with nothing. We ended up getting 4 truffles for $10, so it was a little more than we were expecting to buy, but they are totally delicious! They also have a rewards program where you just enter your phone number to get your points. It was a pleasant surprise to find that my friend and earned enough points to get a free chocolate-dipped Oreo! (Yes, it was delicious!) Overall, make sure you stop by whenever you're in the area because 1) it's more fun to get parking AND candy than it is to get just parking and 2) it'll brighten up your day! read more

I've never tried any of the chocolates here.. (which by the way look AMAZING - the truffles especially) but I still am a fan. I like the selection. There's just enough variety to satisfy my cravings on one of those sweet tooth days. (Meaning days that end with Y.) The sour cherry cola gummies (whoever came up with the idea for those is a god) and meltaway mints, and peach sour belts... I could live off a bag of that stuff for days. My only gripe? I've come in here a couple times and had to wait an inordinate amount of time to be rung up, either because the cashier had gone on break and left a fill-in, or because she was in the back, or on the phone. Very good store with lots of interesting selection. They have chocolate honeycomb, which I had previously not had since the mid 80's. They also have chocolate covered "gumdrop sticks", I suppose you'd call them. Gumdrops in chocolate, but rod-shaped, and orange. Really good! But I'd love just normal chocolate covered gumdrops, too (which I have yet to see anywhere). Service is reliably good. Not standoffish, but not buddy buddy. They validate. Which I don't need, as I'm disabled, so no car. But it's probably a great idea to have it anyway. Always something new to discover there, even if the selection likely doesn't change. read more

Sugar in any form speaks for itself but stick that with great customer service and you'll have a winning treat. Shannon is the main if not the only candy depot representative who always gives a warm hello followed by great conversation throughout your shopping experience. She is very knowledgeable in the wide variety of sugary treats available to those of us with the insatiable urge to consume what is bad but taste so good. It's as if you're getting to positive experiences at the same time your wonderful interaction with Shannon and the walk down memory lane as you come across different types of candy that bring your childhood back to life. Like music you hear from the past I think candy has the same ability to move us emotionally. That's why taking some time out and stopping by the store will satisfy you on so many different levels trust me. The good thing about candy is that it's small so you can pack a whole lot of it into any space and still have plenty of room to walk around. I was really hungry for a big, red licorice rope, so I looked up the closest legit candy store around. The Candy Depot is small, but jam-packed full of gummies, sours, sweets, tarts, chewies, and chocolates. But alas, no red licorice ropes. This is a small shop nestled right under the Hillcrest Cinema! This is a plus for me because I can grab some candy before I hit the movie theater! As soon as you walk in the store attracts children and adults alike! They have a wide selection of candy, things that I didn't even know they made anymore! Some candies are sold individually but most of it is by weight. I personally love the sour belts and they offer about 8-10 flavors! Yeah it's a little pricey but what candy store with specialty selections aren't? The staff is also very friendly when I come in! No complaints here I will be returning as long as they stay open. We had a great visit here. Went for chocolate covered gummy bears, my husband is addicted I swear! After reading reviews we were both slightly apprehensive. But the girl working the store was pleasant, very helpful and funny. We literally cleaned her out of all CCGB. And the price? To be honest it was average. We came here because there was a "we validate parking" sign out front. Too bad it was only for 1 hour. They have all the candies you love, but $3.49 per 1/4 pound is just way too expensive! This store is very small and hard to maneuver a stroller so beware. This had your typical selection of candy. I got three different flavors of sour belts. My husband got some different chocolate covered peanuts. The store was OK just small. They also had a large selection of chocolates in a case that we did not try. I have been going to The Candy Depot since it opened on it's first day and it has always been my go to place for sweets. Recently I have been trying to loose weight so I have invented my own program. The Jelly Belly Diet". I eat only one meal a day, one piece of freash fruit and if I get hungry in between, I have 2 or 3 jelly bellies. You see, you have to eat them one at a time to enjoy thier individual flavors. I make it last 5 minutes per Jelly Belly. I have lost over 20 lbs and always make sure I carry a small jar of them with me at all times so I can pass by a burger joint and not feel like I have to super size myself. The Candy Depot has more of my favorite flavors than any other candy store in San Diego (like Chilie Mango). They also have gift certificates so I have put it down on my birthday wish list. That is a great gift for anyone. A trip to a candy store will always bring a smile to anyone who has ever had a childhood. read more

They have a cute store, very organized and the nice owner, Vicki was very helpful with our large event...at first. She said she could help me to put together a "candy" bar, complete with bins, scoops, bags & ties...and a great price :). She did no such thing, I was able to get the bags, they forgot the ties, and they only provided one item I ask for. I had to scramble at the last minute and go to Sprouts Grocery on Park Blvd to get 50 lbs of additional candy. Sprouts prices were cheaper and they were very helpful. Vicki's associate, Marina is awesome and she should be running the place instead...I wish I could buy the store from her and fix it. It could be the talk of the area! read more

I LOVE Jelly Bellys. I've toured the factory. They were the favor at my wedding. I'll pass on a hard-boiled egg or a string cheese to count exactly 33 beans for my 100-calorie snack. Totally worth it. Arguably, I'm a Jelly Belly expert so heed my advice: DON'T BUY THEM AT THE CANDY DEPOT. An amazing assortment (truly - lots of flavors) doesn't compensate for the very poor quality and high price. They've obviously been sitting in bins for a loooong time, as they are hard and dry. At $14.99/lb., I expect better. We had a similar experience with the M&Ms we bought for the kids. Next time, I'll buy online for half the price and twice the quality. read more

We popped into this candy shop because... well who can resist? The pinked haired cutie working in there was wonderful. She told us all about the hard to find candy that they had in stock. Her upbeat personality and professionalism and wealth of knowledge was a breath of fresh air. OMG! Talking bout "a kid in a candy store". It was amazing,must like when I was a kid (hundred years ago). There was soooo much to chose from that I almost got a sugar rush just walking around this tiny, but fabulous store. Then, to top it off, they have a fantastic train set running overhead and,mid you're nice,mthe you let you blow the train whistle! Wow!!! The owners are super nice, helpful and, of course,movers friendly. You pick out what you want, they weigh it and that's how you pay for it. Simple, right? Better, just like the fast food places that let you mix and match your sandwiches, so can you with the candy. If you're adventurous and silly, like me, you can choose two pieces of candy from each bin and get all kinds of wonderful flavors bursting in your mouth and drive your tastebuds wild! They have some sugar free stuff to, but where's the fun or risk in that if you're a diabetic like me?
