This was our first Dandelion Chocolate experience in their new Downtown location on Powell. A bright, modern space with many packaged chocolates, truffles, s'mores kit, hot chocolate mix etc. We were introduced to brand as locally made dark chocolates with organic cane sugar. We picked up a few items, got to sample their black sesame toffee and wildflower honeycomb. The taste is so luxurious, a bit of nutty and spongy for the honeycomb. Come treat yourself to some locally made goodness!

Sweeter, like a blanco vermouth. 4/5: Del capo. Tame but good. Like an Amaro Montenegro. Their regular chocolate offerings: 5/5: Chocolate canele: near perfection. I've tried it three times and it's great every time. 5/5: Celebration cake; very dense and decadent. 5/5: Apple Donut with ganache. More like a fried muffin. It's good! 4/5: The S'more is not up to expectations. 3/5: Entremet. It's chocolate covered, with a nut praline inside. But not enough chocolate. 3/5: The carrot cake is very pungent. Not enough chocolate. 3/5: Peanut bar: Like a snickers, and not much better than a snickers. Drinks: 4/5: Frozen chocolate. It's good, but skip the whipped cream. 3/5: Nibby horhata. Too sweet. 3/5: Iced chocolate chai. Meh.

Must-do in SF! As an early Father's Day gift, I booked a Build-Your-Own-Bar workshop for my family…read moreand bf-- they've always wanted to visit the factory ^_^ Fun and educational activity for all ages~~~ We arrived early and enjoyed a few drinks from their cafe before a member of staff checked us in. Our tour guide (forgot his name...!) was so welcoming as he greeted each of us and walked us through the factory. We started with a quick overview of Dandelion Chocolate's history and a handful of samples :3 The actual workshop was just around the corner, hosted in an airy kitchen space. We were given a rundown of the chocolate-making process and the locally-sourced toppings before being invited to create our own bars, by pouring warm chocolate into the molds and quickly adding our choice flavors before they hardened. YUMMMM I may have had more than a few samples as we decorated :3 All throughout, the smell of rich chocolate enveloped us like a warm hug... Once our bars were in the fridge, our tour guide took us to an adjacent meeting room where we tasted hot cocoa and learned about cocoa bean harvesting. Zipped through Q&A about the factory-- passed by so fast! We were back in the room to crack open our finished bars. All except my dad's came out intact (broke into 3 pieces!), but our guide apologized profusely and gifted us a complimentary bar as a token of apology...! My dad was of the mindset that broken or whole, it all tastes the same (lolol) but it was a kind gesture nonetheless :') We stuck around to taste some of Bloom cafe's ice cream offerings, which were phenomenal! Truly a great spot to appreciate fine chocolates. We can't wait to come back for another event!!

I booked about a week in advance which I would definitely advise - these tours fill up! I was the only non-local attendee so it seems like Dandelion is best known within the city. The tour was great - our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the chocolate making process and made the experience fun! We learned about cacao beans and even got to taste the cacao fruit - which was interesting. We then went through the whole process from bean to bar and walked through the factory which was a really neat experience. There were lots of samples along the way which I enjoyed. One of the chocolate makers gave us a sneak peak of an upcoming chocolate bar! The area is spacious and there was a lot of standing - so something to be mindful of if you sign up for a tour. We ended the tour in the front room where we were treated to a free hot chocolate to end our experience. The front room also had a section of samples of their current chocolate offerings. I was happy to try them all before selecting my to-go chocolate for the ride home. I opted for the Mexican hot chocolate and it was spicy and delicious. On my way out, I saw a group arrive for a chocolate-making class so it seems like they have a bunch of different class options! I would certainly come back here for a class or to show the tour to friends and family.

I really like that you can choose exactly how many of each flavor you want in your box. I didn't realize that before, but it's a great option because you could literally get one of everything if you wanted to try them all. I chose orange, citron/lemon, caramel, earl grey, espresso, raspberry, and hazelnut. There was also a vegan raspberry option since the regular raspberry had sold out for the day, and honestly you couldn't tell the difference. It was delicious. I also tried the lemon in store, and the raspberry was my favorite. One small thing is that once they're bagged up, it can be a little hard to tell which flavor is which since they look pretty similar on the outside. Not a big deal, just something to keep in mind if you're trying to remember what's what. The owner mentioned he's had the shop for 30 years, which you can feel when you're in there. He took the time to neatly tie up the box and even gave me two complimentary pieces. The shop itself is tiny and charming with a good variety of flavors. A friend of mine has been coming here since childhood, and now I understand the hype. I'll definitely be back.

One suggestion: I really wish they would offer frozen fruit smoothies here -maybe a super simplified version of their café offerings. It would do incredibly well. There's a clear market gap in the area with tons of foot traffic, and it would put something tangible in customers' hands to sip on while they walk around, keeping the unique chocolate experience that's offered at Dandelion at the forefront of the mind. The first time I visited this location, they were not yet offering tastings, (and the gal behind the counter was not very friendly nor feel approachable). Of course, if you can, visit their bigger location in the Mission, where they have food and beverages on the menu. But if you're in PacHeights area, stop in to taste and pick up some delicious chocolates.

This place is absolutely huge! My friend and I were out on a bike ride around SF, riding over from the Bay Bridge, when we stumbled right across the factory and decided we had to stop and check it out. We originally sat down at the outdoor tables to grab a bite at Broad Street Oysters (which is right in the factory), but as we were sitting there, we kept seeing everyone walking past us holding these massive, incredible-looking ice creams. The temptation was real We headed straight inside the factory to grab some dessert, and I tried their new Dubai Pistachio chocolate whip cream vanilla ice cream. It was absolutely amazing. If you're a local who has been putting this off like I did, change that ASAP. It lives up to the hype! People around the world come travel here just to check out places like this one.
