I popped in here and was greeted by amazing service. The ladies behind the counter were so lovely and helped me pick something out. We got 2 chocolate bars and 1 chocolate truffle for 25 dollars which is obviously very steep. My issue was with the fact that the chocolate were not amazing. 1) the bourbon chocolate caramel was way too bourbon-forward 2) the white chocolate passion fruit bar was way too floral and didn't work at all with the chocolate (I'm usually a fan of passion fruit and chocolate) 3) the coconut crunch bar was phenomenal. Let the holiday festivities begin! I recruited more friends to come with me this year to my annual Christopher Elbow visit. While deciding what to order, we received samples of Vietnamese cinnamon chocolate, but we really came for the drinking chocolates. Each dessert drink is 8 oz with a choice of water, milk, or oat milk for the base and marshmallow or whipped cream for the topping. It doesn't seem like a lot volume-wise, but because it's quite rich, it's more than enough. There is also an option to split the drink into two cups, each with their own topping. I LOVED my pumpkin spice drinking chocolate with oat milk; the pumpkin spice was not overwhelming nor artificial tasting. The seasonal spiced molasses with brown butter was also absolutely delectable. I sampled some of my friend's extra dark (85%), which was the least sweet out of all the options, and hazelnut, which was nice and subtle. I'm not a white chocolate person because it's too sweet for me, but I can appreciate the white cinnamon drinking chocolate. Christopher Elbow is now part of my holiday tradition as long as I live in SF. I'll be back! read more

The flavors are interesting and diverse (Caramel Pecan, Butterscotch Bourbon, Fleur de Sel, Strawberry Balsamic, just to name a few), and (according to their website) their chocolates contain no artificial preservatives. During my most recent visit, I bought two gift boxes (8 pieces each, $26 per box). I traveled with them overseas and they kept very well! I could never stop thinking about having cacao straight from Ecuador! The dark chocolate of its true origin was what I indulge the most! Divine, guilt-free decadence will always be found in my heart, with little or no sugar. Here in Christopher Elbow Chocolate of Hayes Valley, the menu in front of the cashier was what caught my eye. Not only were they have fruity concoctions in every drinking chocolate, there's also few different single origin ones, ranging from Belize to Dominican Republic. Finally had a chance to stop here to try their hot chocolate - not just any hot chocolate but closer to the European drinking chocolate. I went with hazelnut and kiddo ordered the passionfruit. They were both topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. To me, the portion size was just right since they were so rich and decadent! Yum! Also had to pick up some chocolates while there. Primarily a purveyor of really fine chocolates, they also have spectacular espresso! In this neighborhood your choices include Blue Bottle which is owned by Nestle, the company that doesn't believe access to drinking water is a fundamental human right. And another high end option is Ritual Coffee where the service is so lackluster it can literally take 10 minutes to receive a single espresso even though only two orders are in before yours. We had: 1) lime caramel 2) lemon (times two- definitely were not gonna split this one) 3) caramel bourbon 4) raspberry 5) caramel latte I'm sort of sad we found these delightful treats because now I am going to have to add an extra day at the gym to justify stopping by a couple times a month. Came here once out of curiosity and have been coming back here almost every other month cause they're that good. I'm usually not a fan of caramel, but the way they infused theirs with different flavors is quite magical. The first time I had these, my mind was blown. They also have a variety of chocolate bars and the espresso hazelnut is my absolute favorite. They have a wall with different boxes available, but you can also build your own box. Me and my family walked around the area and found this little chocolate shop, we weren't feeling good when we first walking into the shop, not to mention their unprofessionisum, both ladies just chitchat on their own, one of them even stared at us... With NO greeting nor welcoming! I bought one chocolate box, the Asian lady (with glasses I forgot) gave me a really bad attitude, does she really need this job or she loves to push customers away? Very impatient in asking me do I need a bag, after I paid, not even a "thank you" and turned around. I had to ask for a receipt? She seemed annoying and didn't want to do it, and rudely passed me the print with a side-eye, which I wasn't expect that from an high-end chocolate store. I won't come back to this shop again. The chocolate bonbons at Christopher Elbow Chocolates in San Francisco are just exquisite. It's hard to go wrong with any of the different flavors, fillings, infusions. It doesn't hurt that they also look like little works of art! Today I tried the Hazelnut Caramel ($3) flavor, which is a 'salted caramel blended with smooth hazelnut praline', it was amazing. I also tried the Lavender ($3) flavor, which they describe as a 'silky caramel infused with French lavender' - it's decadent and absolutely worth a try. We got lucky to try a sample of their Raspberry chocolate, which they were sharing only due to a flaw in the pattern decorated on the chocolate. They wouldn't put it in the display for sale due to the slight perceived flaw. It's nice to know the level of attention to details here. I appreciated the kindness from the staff to let us try this piece, it got me excited for more. They have a seating area inside that I didn't utilize.
