Top-notch steakhouse experience, very consciously evoking all the sensibilities of an East Coast steakhouse. FOOD Cocktails were quite good. The Black Tie Marg, served in a black metallic container, was remarkably well-balanced between tart and sweet. My wife enjoyed her Old Fashioned. So, yeah, steak. And more steak. It's not quite as over-the-top as some top-ranked steakhouses (we weren't asked to select our own steak knives, each with its own story), but there's little to complain about here. The Chef's Recommendations are all steaks with different coatings and sauces, which are available as an add-on in the basic steak menu before. I had a bone-in NY strip, served a perfect (to me) medium rare. I didn't have any coatings or sauces and didn't feel the lack. The Caesar Salad was quite well done, well-balanced. My wife had the wine tasting dinner, and it provided a good meal with generous pours. Since she was doing that, I managed to survive on a (generous) glass of a super-Tuscan, which went quite nicely with the meal. Glass wine closets are scattered here and there, showing off the selection. There are some items other than beef steak, but, y'know, if you're going to come here ... SERVICE As one would expect, attentive, if sometimes overly-so. Upon seating we were plied with menus (including drinks and cocktails), wine tasting menus, an iPad with drink and cocktail options, water, bread basket, butter, and two table attendants, such that it took several minutes to figure out first steps before I could eat any of the (yummy) bread. So, yes, a mild complaint about things not being quite as leisurely as I might have wanted. That said, our waiter was pleasant, helpful, and as the evening progressed, showed up promptly (and often unqueued) when needed. Complementary valet parking was a nice touch. ATMOSPHERE Elegant and classy, and pretty understated with the exception of the chrome lions at the front door. I was a bit surprised at the noise level -- sitting beside my wife we could hear each other, but things seemed on the louder side; there was background music of which I could hear about every fifth note, and our waiter definitely had to project to be heard. Made it feel a bit less intimate than I would have hoped. My wife commented it was a bit cool, a/c-wise. That's hard to balance with a full room and open kitchen. NET-NET This is a pricey place, but I felt like we got value for the cost. That said, we'll probably be saving it for special occasions, not normal dining-out fare. read more

Despite having seen capital grille in many other cities over the last two decades, I have never been to one before this visit. I've always been meaning to go, given its tremendous reputation. In comparison to their peers or competitors, food was alright, service was average to below average, and ambiance was nice. The moment we walked in. We were greeted. I let them know that we were there for my daughter's birthday, and they made her feel special with table decorations and a happy birthday dessert. Certainly that part of their service is deserving of high praise. However, all of their competitors basically do something similar, which is why I would say average for this class of establishment. While our server was friendly, we were disappointed that water was not refilled in a timely manner. Also, when they packed our leftovers, they missed a side dish. It was corrected after I pointed it out though, at least. Other than that, servers were perfectly pleasant to interact with. Acoustics were a bit rough, as sound carried more than I prefer, but it wasn't a total disaster or anything. Decor was nice and classy. Let's talk about the food. Steaks were cooked the way we wanted. However, grey band was larger than I like, so I'd give steak execution average score. Mashed potatoes were quite tasty. Mushrooms were awesome. Lobster mac and cheese was a little disappointing. Huge chunks of lobster was great, but the mac and cheese itself was not exciting at all. We got the flourless espresso chocolate cake. Strong espresso flavor, and definitely ought to be shared. Too rich for 1 person. It was nice, but didn't send us over the moon. With so many other options within close proximity, I am looking for excellence or something to really stand out. Unfortunately I did not find it here, but also I am convinced that no one is going to have a bad meal here. Amongst high end steakhouses, I'd say capital grille is slightly below average. We came here for happy hour on a Friday and arrived around 3:30 and got the last two seats at the bar! So - it's a popular place. We wanted to try a few different things so we ordered the tuna tartare (not on HH), the cast iron shrimp, the sliced NY Strip with Aji Verde sauce, and the mushroom truffle arancini. For drinks, I started with the Greyhound Martini (highly recommend) and then had a glass of the Cabernet on HH. Our favorite dish was the cast iron shrimp. The sauce was amazing. Be sure to ask for the complimentary bread for extra dipping! The arancini was really tasty too- though super heavy. The tuna tartare had lots of tuna, but it wasn't super flavorful to me. I needed more of the avocado and actual mango - and another layer. It just needed something more. The steak was pretty good- but a bit chewy at times. The service was excellent and the bar is really nice - albeit small! It's the only area that cannot be reserved, so if you're hoping for a seat, you may want to make reservations or come early! Everything was amazing! From the warm bread served to my steak cooked to order just right and a wonderful presentation of my hubby's birthday table presentation was amazing! Only open for a week so there was some hiccups with being out of items or minor issues - Abel handled it in stride and took car of us - Mike came by the table to apologize and take care of us. All in all, the mistakes were minor and just part of the process of opening a high end restaurant. The Capital Grille was extremely impressive. The restaurant itself looks absolutely amazing, but what really stands out is the staff. Their professionalism elevates the entire experience and makes for a truly elegant evening. We started the night with their "In Fashion" cocktail, made with Woodford Reserve, Grand Marnier, black walnut bitters, orange peel, and an Amarena cherry. It was a fantastic way to begin the meal. The calamari may be the best I've ever had--perfectly prepared by the kitchen. For the main course, the filet mignon and the sea bass were both cooked to perfection. We went for our anniversary and felt extremely welcomed and cared for by everyone we came into contact with that night. That's what they do best, customer service and going beyond the extra mile. We had one of their signature cocktails with pineapple and vodka, which is outrageously good. We had the crab and lobster appetizer, steaks that were cooked to perfection, the best lobster mac & cheese of our lives and a celebratory anniversary dessert. I can't wait to come back as I saw they have a lunch option to get you in and out under an hour. The calamari took stars away for me - there's no sauce! The calamari is piled high and they said it has a garlic butter sauce on it. It needed a dipping sauce. They have a basil aioli that I made do but a Cajun remoulade or even marinara would have made it so much better. The people next to us asked the same question. It's $22-27 depending if you get it at happy hour and frankly not worth it without sauce. The sliders and fries were great. The doli, margaritas and mojito were good too. Decided to try this place for lunch today. My husband and I sat in a booth. I had the Cobb salad with steak and my husband had a steak sandwich of some kind. Both of us agreed that the steaks were delicious and prepared perfectly. The only thing I didn't care for...the Cobb salad preparation. There was far too much dressing, and I'm just not a big fan of pork belly. I prefer a more traditional Cobb salad. My husband had zero complaints about his meal. He enjoyed it very much. The decor and general ambience of the dining room is upscale, but comfortable. Perfect. My husband had a couple glasses of wine, and I enjoyed one glass as well. Both were as expected. We had dinner here tonight and chose to sit in the bar area, which was perfectly fine. We started with the chilled crab meat cocktail. It was good, but nothing particularly memorable. For our entrées, we ordered the Ahi tuna and the sea bass. The sea bass was very good, although the portion was quite small. Unfortunately, the Ahi tuna was disappointing. The quality was not what I would expect from a fine dining restaurant. I sent the first tuna dish back, and the manager came over to apologize. He assured me they would prepare another one, but the replacement was no better than the first. Since the manager had indicated that my meal would be comped, I didn't say anything further. However, when the bill arrived, I realized the meal had not been removed from the check. Rather than make an issue of it, I paid the bill and left. We've dined at several Capital Grille locations, including Naples and Scottsdale, Arizona, and this experience didn't come close to those. Unfortunately, based on this visit, I don't think we'll be returning. read more

They were doing this really fancy 6 wine tasting from duckhorn vineyard and I let him know I wasn't drinking right now but my parents were. Biggest issue was the mains. 2 of us ordered filets that were so overly salted and overcooked they were inedible, My son ordered the New York strip that was served with a hair on top. My daughter ordered the Sea-bass that tasted like spongy styrofoam. Corn with bacon was great, but the au gratin potatoes were a cold lump of grease. We really like The Capital Grille in Denver, Arizona and Florida, but this location has a lot of work to do to reach the caliber expected of a fine dinning establishment. read more

We hadn't realized that they had only been opened for four days and given the level of service, you would never know ~ exceptional! We ordered from their "Capital Hours" menu which is similar to happy hour. Not only were there amazing menu choices but the quality and portions were perfect to satisfy us for dinner! We were greeted multiple times and the staff was extremely welcoming. Our server Britini was nothing short of amazing being extremely attentive and so pleasant to interact with. She provided some special unexpected touches that made our experience extra special. We were excited to try a new spot near the mall in Denver but Capital Grille missed the mark. They charged the same outrageous prices as other steakhouses in the Denver area for Applebees level food and bowling alley cocktails despite great service and an interior to makeshift a what they call a "Fine Dining" environment. There is a sign in the front lobby stating their expectations for dress code, gross. Our lamb lollipop appetizer was barely enough for 2 to share, two very small lollipops barely thick enough to require a knife. And our beet salad with goat cheese and pistachios was more field greens and beets, barely any pistachios at all and not enough goat cheese to eat on a cracker. You could tell they were skimping on the more expensive ingredients despite what we were paying. The scallops and lobster dinner was more scallops and dirty rice (not risotto) with the skimpiest langoustine I've ever seen, when we asked about it they said it was North Atlantic lobster. No way!! There was maybe 4 very small hunks (generous) of lobster in the entire dish and so many squiggly pieces of that weird small langoustine junk it made it hard to eat. And finally we got watered down happy hour drinks and Mr. Black espresso martinis instead of what was advertised. And the creme brûlée wasn't baked at all before someone fired some sugar on top, wet custard with some berries - I'm not a professional chef but this seems amateur or shouldn't have gotten out of the kitchen. Overall very disappointed, we won't be back. Hope this helps some other folks looking for their next spot around the south east side of Denver, this ain't it!! read more
