When I told him we had just stepped out for a second, he said we must be "too poor" to be there. I ate RAW chicken from ordering chicken strips. I had a video, and showed it to the bartender and they said it was my fault from ordering from a nightclub, that they can't tell me not order the food, but it is nasty and they have to offer food per Oregon laws. Sketchy as F , straight up thieves hang out in here. We were having a good time, then saw 3 people that just kinda lingered around and started rummaging around our stuff when we started dancing. We came back and they tried to pretend they mistakenly went to our table. It was not busy, one of the people was a shorter, fairly bulky dude, that then went to a table and sat by himself. Do you remember the Alamo? Much like Almaron Dickinson, I pulled up to the scene at the Alamo guns 'a blazin. Left my child bride at home with dysentery, tied up my horse and buggy and was ready to paint the town red. I felt that The Capitol would be a good respite after my recovery, and they delivered. I was greeted by a 5'6 Irishman with a lazy eye that gazed at me like a star in the night. Upon being let in to this diverse hostel, my top hat imploded due to the low ceilings. After undergoing a hefty cover charge, I expected the service of at least a coat rack. I carry a heavy trench coat (1" Kevlar to stop low-velocity handgun bullets). Their lack of elixirs had me clenching my cheeks, but, thankfully there were many beautiful women to distract me from the struggles of my recent marriage (I hadn't expected to encounter dystentery so soon). Thank god they turned off the dubstep so I could perform a harmonica solo. I tried to clench it but accidentally ripped a beefy squeaker that cleared the dance floor. Except for one man, for what to my wondering eye appeared to be doing interpretive robot ballet. It was not my cup of tea but I think it's very important to be open-minded to the preferences of others. Though he's usually very elusive, even Ralph Waldo Emerson (the chipmunk who takes shelter in my top hat) emerged at the first few notes of a new-age remix of Rocky Raccoon. Better still, they lubed up the dance floor with Crisco which made for a greasy, groovy, glorious time. If you thought the river was a slick ride - this is the true place for lubin' and tubin' (if you know what I mean). Fun night club in Bend, OR right downtown. Before COVID it was always packed and the place to be. It seems more quiet now, but still poppin. They play mostly EDM music which is my favorite so I love to catch live music there. Cover is usually only $5. I promise you that if you guys play decent music you will have more business than you know what to do with. I get that the overdubbed, EDM-esc DJs are kinda your thing, but Bend is not big enough- nor hip enough- to have a bar that solely plays music for people tripping. 2000's pop and some more recent dance music (might I suggest Dua Lipa or something with lyrics???) would bring all of the 20-somethings into your bar and remove some of the unsavory people doing weird stuff in your bathroom. Don't make me pay $10 to get into Astros just to hear good music. :) read more

My husband and I went there last night to see a comedy show promoted as 'Dad Jokes'. It was a gimmick. It was the night before Fathers' Day. There were children there with their parents. A comedian ma have said one thing about his father, but the performance was their usual acts. No person under 18 should have been in there. Most of the 'humor' and language was vulgar, especially considering children were present. Here is an example- there was a long dialog about older men bleeding profusely from Hemorrhoids and having to go to Target to buy tampons to insert in their anus. This place is great! Once you get a few drinks in you and the music is going. Before that.. it was kind of a let down. It looks like it has (or maybe had?) so much potential. The Place its self id say is pretty cool. Its under ground, the dance floor is blocked off from half the place so if you're not looking to dance you can get some privacy and play some bar games. In the dance area they have booths you can chill out on and i loved that set up. There are 2 nice huge fans right next to the dance area too so you dont get too hot. Its very dark! Drinks were delicious and the Bar tender was really nice. Food is pretty good, id eat it again- but for only being 1 of 2 tables in here at the time.. half our food took soooo long to get to the table we had to check to see if they actually were making it. Stick with the burgers and fries. Other reviews touch on all the things that are a let down about this place.. thought id keep this one more positive! read more

My boy came in from Idaho to visit and the bars weren't cutting it. We decided to check if there were any clubs open and the capitol being the only "club" open we decided to give it a shot. The bouncer outside, 5'6 red hair, denied my buddies entrance because he automatically assumed the ID was fake. No reason or rhyme, not to mention there were 8 of us above 21 who were allowed in. He changed his reasoning to simply "I'm not letting you in because I don't like you". Unprofessional, childish and ego hurt guy. Lame joke of a "club" and even worse bouncers. This place looked promising walking down the stairs to the bar but once we got inside I quickly realized it was not worth my time...you know those places that have potential to be something awesome but just come up short, fall flat, miss the mark....yeah that was The Capitol. Atmosphere looked pretty cool, it doesn't look like anything from the street, but you walk downstairs and there's the bar and then tons of games and pinball machines to your right, and more hang out space to your left. Seemed cool, only there weren't many people there at all, and the people that were there didn't stay long...from what we saw, people stayed for a drink then left. By the time we left the place had pretty much cleared out. I'm thinking the reason for this was the service.... It took a long time to get a drink menu, then took a bit to be able to order a drink, then a while before I got my drink, and I was sitting at the bar....yeah....well the drink was OK so that was something at least. The younger kid that was working that night was OK, but still pretty slow...there was another guy that was working though that was basically horrible...pretty much got ignored or short snippy answers when asked questions...and the weird thing was he was in a bit of a frenzy working the bar, even though the place wasn't packed by any means, should have been more than easy to keep up with the demand...anyway, yeah the place was a vibe killer so we decided to leave. I guess I expected more from this place, maybe its better on another day of the week? We were there on a Thursday. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE OUT OF STATE. I visited town to have an outing downtown with old friends. After going to almost every bar downtown we made our way to the capitol where a short bearded man dwelled amongst the entrance. He asked me a couple questions about my Idaho ID then said he wouldn't let me in and that I could have police come down to verify my ID. I told him he doesn't know what a real ID looks like and is only saying that because it's from Idaho. His ego got pressed so he told me and my friends that "he's not coming in because I don't like him". Less than 5 minutes later a cop rolled by who I asked to verify my ID. WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT!! ITS A REAL ID!!! The cop went over and informed him of his mistake. I returned about 1-2 hours later, he still had not forgotten and would not let me in even though I came to apologize. Even though I should be the one he apologizes too. It's hard to be the bigger man but I can tell you he is not in any capacity. read more

WEAK & RUDE. I guess I took too long to find my credit card to pay the $5 cover charge, and was told I couldn't come in. I found this shockingly absurd since there was no one waiting in line behind me, and I would have let them go ahead of me while I looked. But instead of giving me a second to find my card, the doorman "ordered" me to leave. He was over 6' tall, and so young he could have been my son, but when I asked him what the problem was he said he didn't care and pushed me outside. I got miffed at being man-handled like that, and tried one more time to understand what the big deal was...I was genuinely baffled!! He said he didn't owe me an explanation and proceeded to call over the police who were passing by. He told the officers I had ASSAULTED him!!!! Here's the definition of Assault: a threat or attempt to inflict offensive physical contact or bodily harm on a person (as by lifting a fist in a threatening manner) that puts the person in immediate danger of or in apprehension of such harm or contact. Really, Assault?? I am 5'4" women in my 50's. This monster of a man felt so threatened by little old me that he had to call over the police? What a joke. The door staff at the Capital are RUDE and HAUGHTY. This misunderstanding should have been handled with a drop of patience, tact and customer relations. Instead, it was inflamed by disrespect, arrogance and lying to the authorities. That's just WRONG. I don't know who they think that are, acting like Gods and lording it over some dark, dumpy, hole-in-a-basement, There's nothing CAPITAL about insulting and bullying your patrons, particularly a woman, but based on the other reviews, this low-brow, Neanderthal attitude is the status quo at their front door. A business is built (and LOST) one customer at a time, but they don't care about customers down in their pit. I'll give it a miss the next time I want to spend some money downtown, and I suggest you do the same. This review is based off food we got from Uber Eats. I don't know about the bar or drinks - but we got very sick from the food. Looking over the reviews here and the photos, it seems like a weird venue to even have on Uber Eats, I didn't realize it was a bar. My husband was working a long weekend and his employer gave him an Uber Eats gift card to help make our weekend a bit nicer. We rarely eat out, and were excited for a little splurge. Opened up the app and it recommended The Capitol. The photos of food on the app were nice looking, and it mentioned they used local/grass-fed beef on their burgers which is usually promising. Food arrived quickly, within 15 minutes, and it looked NOTHING like their very styled photos, and was absolutely inedible. I took a bite of my burger and couldn't even swallow it. The worst burger I've EVER had. The meat was so dry and had a super weird texture. The bun was completely stale, several-days-old type of stale. I tried 1 tater tot and they were also dry, and cold (not even like lukewarm, I'm usually pretty forgiving of food temperature with Uber Eats because it's obviously gotta make it across town.) My husband's tacos were slightly more palatable - mostly because they were drowned in sauce. The meat on his was also completely overcooked though. I took 1 bite of his tacos and ended up just putting it all away and making dinner. He also tried a bite of the antipasto salad and said it was awful too, but I didn't even try that one. The only edible thing was the chicken tenders my daughter ordered. I tried a bite and they were fine - hot, tasted fresh. I didn't try the fries but my undiscerning 4 year old wouldn't touch them. So at this point it was a bummer, I ended up having to make a whole separate dinner for my family - but honestly I wasn't even going to write a bad review. Just shrug it off as somewhere not to eat again. But then, within 24 hours, my husband and I both had shooting stomach pains and...other symptoms of foodborne illness that I'll omit. The *only* food we had both eaten within the previous 2 days were the 2 bites or so we each took of the tacos from the Captiol. (We know this 100% because we both count macros and track our food and were able to compare on our apps.) This one disastrous takeout order made a hard weekend where we both had a lot of extra work even harder. Wasted a gift card. Just so disappointing all around. The only upside was at least my 4-year-old wasn't also sick, I guess if you find yourself stuck having to eat from here, go with the chicken tenders. read more

We asked around 'we're looking for a place for drinks, light eats, fun... we were told Capitol. Off we went, down the stairs and laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa underground fantatic. Ping Pong tables, pinball, pool, big round padded booths, video games (that werent blaring you out of the joint), a PHOTO BOOTH and a seriously long bar! We did not eat but the menu looked fabulous- you'd be hard pressed to bring a gang and have someone not find something they like. Bartender was excellent, discussing their custom drinks, infused alcohols etc till we came up with a drink we'd like. Headed to The Capitol after hearing some good things about it. Glad we did! The atmosphere is really nice... Feels more like something you'd find in a big city. That's good for Bend. We don't have enough of that. The bar is big, the dining area is big, and there's a large area for live music which will start on 12/5/15, according to our waiter. There are also arcade games and a photo booth. It's very fun. The food was superb. Everything was local and homemade. The steak was excellent. My burger was awesome. I hate ketchup but theirs was made from scratch and soooo good. We had the deep fried avocado for an appetizer and I could've eaten 4 more. We will definitely be back! read more

I came here for the pinball machines. They have a pretty big select of Sterns (can check out the line up at pinballmap.com) and although they're more pricier to play instead of across the street, they seem to have the settings to be a bit lower so you can get more free replays. Went to the Capital again and depending on the bartender that prepares your drink, it can be a real disappointment...especially for the price they charge. Unfortunately I had the inexperienced bartender make my cocktail (with missing ingredients) and then watched the experienced bartender make the same drink for someone sitting next to me. You would have thought it was a completely different drink. Argh! No wonder I could barely gulp my down. I love the location. As you enter, you go down a flight of stairs and voila...it's dim with a trendy vibe and very inviting and something you wouldn't expect here in Bend. You can sit at the long bar or find a table in a little dark corner. Whatever floats your boat. This could be a great date night place for me and the hubby because starting mid December they will start hosting live music. I have a simple disqualifier for bars. If it smells like bleach when I walk in, I don't want to eat or drink there. This place, along with Seven, The Riverbend pub, the once great Astro Lounge, and Fat Tuesdays among others, reeks like bleach. It's the lowest "bar" to reach in the bar scene. Do you enjoy the smell of bleach when you are sipping a nice cocktail? Or eating a tasty bit of food? No, neither do I. Fine for a quick hang with the guys (but still nasally nauseating), but wouldn't bring the wife here. I had the burger after reading much hype and being hyped on it by the bartender, and frankly it was just passable. In fact it had a slightly strange taste that I can't put my finger on. There are better burgers all over town and even some for less money, such as Anthony's happy hour burger which is perhaps the best deal in town at six bucks. Even the Pine Tavern five dollar happy hour burger is better in my opinion. Interestingly enough, the fries were great, and the bartender was very pleasant and helpful. Like Seven, this place would probably be fine if you were a college aged kid or in your 20s- and my guess is that most of their clientele and also the targeted demographic so I have no beef with that as I was a NW grunge kid in the 90's and spent time in much worse from BC to Tijuana, though even then the stench of bleach was a turnoff-but those who have lived long enough to have discerning tastes, cleanliness requirements, and enjoy real ambience will probably want to look elsewhere. Would love to see Taffer take this one on at some point- really could be something. We don't really need more half-empty, North Bond street style, 20 something spots in town, but as the filled to the gills mid to upscale joints show, we DO need many more of those, and with a cash infusion and some love, this could be a good one. read more

So we went outside, and as I was walking down the street this guy who worked there walked up behind me and literally smacked the drink out of my hand and said "Don't come back, no outside drinks!." This shining review is for the way the "security" treats their customers and the DANGER at Capitol. If your looking to have a enjoyable night and your a female, AVOID THIS PLACE, I ended up going with friends and usually I don't go out/stay out late. Well when I went to tell our friend we were leaving I was ATTACKED- thrown to the ground, hair ripped from the scalp and scratches all over my face and body.... I never saw this girl coming. My boyfriend had to pull her off of me, and when I asked for help from security staff multiple people ignored me. I wasn't hysterical or looking for some sort of compensation, nor was I slurring but I was brushed off. I'm lucky it wasn't worse and that the bald spots are only in the back of my head. Thanks capitol for caring for your local community! This isn't the first review on people being random targets and I'm sure it won't be the last. Best damn burger out there. Seriously. Green chiles, pepper jack cheese, tomato aioli - make sure you add avocado! Great happy hour, 4-7 pm and all day on Sunday. We had $4 cucumber jalapeño margaritas and played arcade games on a Monday. It was awesome and super delicious. read more

Was excited for some dueling pianos! That quickly dissipated when two sloppy, rude guys took to the stage. They obnoxiously shined a flash light in the eyes of their guests just to get a reaction and then make fun of them. One guest got so upset he actually dumped his beverage on one of the musicians. It was in comfortable and we left shortly after, despite our great cocktail server who deserves 5 stars for having to deal with those losers and who also lost at least 3 tables of guests because of their rudeness.
