This place won't be for everyone. But if you are on the Hill or touring the Capitol, feel free to grab a light bite and have a full meal somewhere else. Think of the visitor center restaurant as part over priced deli, part interesting food court and a bit of leftovers from Cracker Barrel. If you have been walking all over the visitor grounds, you're probably tired. Sit for a bit, grab something with theme park prices and then go to Chinatown, DuPont Circle or something near City Center DC. The photo ops around the capital are worth the visit. Forget parking. Take metro at Union Station or an Uber. The visitor's center has useful details on all the "how tos" while on the grounds. read more

Of coarse I didn't go there to eat but we ended up checking out the options and they looked good but galie!!! I grabbed a salad and on the notice it said it was 1.70 a lb but when I checked out I ended up paying $26 for my salad! Most expensive salad I've ever purchased! I would be remiss if I didn't write about one of my more peculiar but fun dining experiences from 2024 which was eating at the visitor center for the us capitol building. I know thar that sounds really funny but we were in a pinch before our tour of the Capitol (free to set up) and this place was a perfect spot to grab some grub. How often do you get to eat with visitors from around the country or even the world and congregational staffers and interns in one location. The place is clean and well lit and service is fast and efficient. Pick what you want and go. For me, the big winner on value and taste was the special dish they served which I think is served at previous house innagurations? This time it was a stuffed quail with wild rice and veggies for like 17 bucks and it was solid and tasty too. This dish probably costs more at a restaurant so ima add this as a federal tax refund of sorts, but I digress. Five stars for coming in clutch. Is it something I would drop my plans in DC to go visit? No. But is it worth checking out and for grabbing a meal if you are touring the capitol and around the area? Yes indeed read more

For a cafeteria, there's a good variety of food, and everything was pretty tasty -- I had a sandwich and soup, plus the fun Capitol dessert -- and price is reasonable. It moves along well but it does get pretty noisy/chaotic with all the school groups. The restaurant at the Capitol Visitor Center provided an unsatisfactory experience. I ordered chicken tenders with fries, and it was immediately apparent that the meal was overpriced, as a basket of fries and tenders was priced at twelve dollars. Upon tasting the food, I was struck by its poor quality. The fries were mushy, tasteless, and lacked seasoning, making them difficult to eat. The chicken tenders were dry, flavorless, and tough. The dryness was so extreme that it resembled the sensation of biting into a desert landscape, and the toughness was so pronounced that it almost felt as though I might chip a tooth. Attempts to cut or break the chicken were unsuccessful; banging it against the table yielded no results, leaving me to question whether it was even edible or if I was just biting into the stones that make up the pyramids. It you are to be forced of eating at this cafe I highly advise against ordering the chicken tenders at this establishment. The service was unimpressive, characterized by slow lines and average assistance. The ambiance was adequate, offering a basic café atmosphere. Overall, I do not recommend this restaurant and would rate it one star. read more

2 stars for allowing us to use free cups for ice water. what a lifesaver! Went down for dessert treat and they all looked so decadent and artistic! Seemed very promising! We were about to grab a fruit tart and a Capitol shaped white chocolate sculpture thing but immediately changed our minds when we saw tons of fruit flies over every single dessert on the display. They are located behind the ticketing are on the first level which is really the basement. My visit was over the Summer and it was very busy. The set up is cafeteria style and they have a lot of variety including dessert. Drinks are bottled and fountain. Checkout was smooth in a central area. Restrooms are nearby. I had a roast beef sandwich that was just ok, but a ton of meat. My wife had bbq and macaroni and it was reported as great! I tried and agreed. Yelp has them under category fast food which is not the correct description. Cafeteria is best fit. It's a zoo during lunchtime with multiple large groups trying to grab a bite to eat. Many options. We had the Portobello Mushroom Sandwich served on Ciabatta bread. Located inside the Visitor Center of the Capitol, this is a cafeteria style restaurant. Plenty of food options in here including pastas, salad bar, pizza, hot dog, burgers, espresso, ice cream, pies and desserts, and many other foods. The food is a bit expensive for cafeteria food, but your getting charged for the convenience. My family and I decided to pay because we were starving and we had so much more to see after touring Congress. My mother got to pasta with some pie for dessert. My brother got a hot dog and fries. I got two slices of pepperoni pizza and a Hershey's chocolate bar (you know because I am an adult but I decided once I reached adult hood I would eat like I wanted to back at 7 years of age ). Well the Capitol kinda has everyone over a barrel bc you can't bring in food and drink. And there's no lockers to store food. Of course there's no food trucks around so when you're hungry, there's no real other options. There are salads, pizza, burgers, French fries and lots of Sammies and salads. There's limited hot pasta options, juice boxes, milk bottles, soup, yogurt,and chix tenders with fries. So lots of options for adults and kids. There's a " moms lactation room" for privacy. Decent place to get food when you don't have any other option. We had just finished touring the White House and then the capitol right after one another and found ourselves starving around 3 pm. It started snowing out and wanted to stall before heading home. This restaurant aka cafeteria is quite large and has plenty of walking room and seats. The employees were pretty friendly, and it's very similar to as if you were at a hospital cafeteria. We went downstairs and ate here. After touring the Capitol, my family wanted to eat right away and chose this cafe-styled "restaurant." It was pretty busy but we found a clean table after picking up our food at the walk up counters. There were quite a few choices and mostly affordable. I made a salad at the salad bar and it cost me a whopping $13 for a small portion-I'm unsure if they include the weight of the plate when measuring for the total price. The clam chowder was good and my mom liked her cheesecake. I bought a baggy of cookie dough bites and they were delicious!! The cafeteria was overall clean and well stocked. I loved the easiness of putting your dirty dishes on a conveyor belt. The convenience of the cafeteria was nice, the food is, after all, cafeteria style (not memorable in the slightest but it's fast). Coming from NYC, the first thing you notice about D.C. is good food (or convenient food) is tough to come by. Well, if you're planning to tourist it up at the Capitol Building you can do worse than taking a break at the recently renovated Visitor Center cafeteria. They've got a wide selection of fast foods like burgers, chicken tenders, and fries, as well as more healthy options (think Boston Market) and an entire Mexican food section and BBQ food section. Don't forget the salad bar and pre-packed wraps and desserts. I found the portions to be pretty generous (USA!! USA!!) and the prices were decent coming in around $8.00 - $10.00 per person. It had a nostalgic touch to it, like when you were at a rest stop off the highway or the college cafeteria. Only difference, you have to go through security to get into the building. Try finding a quick lunch spot in a 3 block radius and you'll see why this does the job. Really a 3-star place, but I'm feeling patriotic. read more
