As the other reviews say. This is no frills. It's a local greasy spoon walking distance from the capitol. They serve all day breakfast at reasonable prices. They are also cash only. I came in during lunch on a Friday and missed a huge rush *thankfully. Seating is limited and first come first serve. The food was fine. Bland, Nothing special. I think that's also people's allure. I'll stick with Maury and Paul's in Brookland for my pancakes. read more

I really don't get the appeal. It's like going to someone's house and sitting at a super small table and getting cheap food that tastes pretty basic. I guess if you're looking for a homey vibe and are a regular, maybe?? But no reservations, cash only, no menus (just up on the whiteboard, hard to read), and so crowded that it's difficult to move around...not for me. I will say, however, the service is fantastic. The staff is wonderful. It's so small, in an old row home, and there's only a few folks working and they do a great job. But, the atmosphere and food is not something I would go back for...especially with so many amazing options close. read more

What a little hidden gem! Cute spot that's cash only. I love all the random decor. They have a solid menu, no frills, exactly how I like it. Listen, the foodies really hyped this spot up, and I fell for it. So my friend wanted to check out Jimmy's after seeing a viral video about cheap breakfast under $12. Cool, right? I ordered fried potatoes, bacon, and a cranberry juice. I knew something was off when the bag felt light... Y'ALL. Look at this mess--EIGHT potatoes. Yes, I counted. Eight. Damn. Potatoes. I called my friend immediately like, "What the hell happened? You clearly weren't paying attention!" I hopped in a cab straight from work to confront this situation. Showed the guy at the counter and said, "This is $12?! A kid wouldn't get full off this." He offered a refund, more food, or a swap. Sir, this should've never left the kitchen. The older lady behind the counter asked, "What's wrong?" and I said, "It's not enough food." YOU DAMN RIGHT. Y'all should be ashamed of yourselves. Got my refund and bounced. Jimmy T's Place is an institution on the Hill that I've been meaning to try for a while. It's cash-only and very focused on basics. It's a cozy diner, with the breakfast regulars, like waffles, pancakes, omelettes, and breakfast sandwiches. The service was friendly. I had an omelette (which start at only $5.95!) and some home fries. The food was good and filling - but a note for my fellow allergy friends that options for gluten-free are very limited here. That being said, I got a yummy breakfast and coffee for under $20 - a rare accomplishment in D.C. read more

Solid breakfast at a great price. Definitely a no frills place but it's worth a try if you're in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. I visited on a rainy Saturday around 1pm and there was a steady stream of customers. I ordered the egg, pancake, and sausage plate for $7.95 I think! It was good. The food was so good I forgot to take a picture and after about 2 mins our plates were clean. There was a wait as only three people are working (their ass off ) and it was entirely worth it. I'm sorry y'all, I genuinely always try to give small locally owned businesses rave reviews and maybe we caught them on a bad day because this place was extremely disappointing. We waited forty minutes for our food and when it arrived some of it was wrong, so then we had to wait even longer. The prices are awesome and I like the business model of the no frills diner, but the food was not great either. Would not return :( Edit: The owner reached out and explained the sudden surge of business they have received recently, so I changed my review accordingly because that's not their fault :) read more

CASH ONLY I am a big fan of good old fashion diners, and most places have that diner feel and aesthetic, but this place lives the aesthetic. I feel like I am taken back in time. The building just feels old once you walk in. The cash register looks like it's from the 60s. The service is awesome. It is a place I want to come back to regularly and talk to the employees about my day. The food is also delicious and cooked to perfection, if relatively simple (at least most of the menu). I ordered the waffle, which tasted really good and was light and fluffy, along with a really solid slice of bacon, and one egg. They did not have the corned beef hash when I got there, so I am going back to try that. read more

This was my first visit to this friendly neighborhood cafe. Interior had vintage vibe with ceiling tiles and formica tables. Arrive early (before 9am to not wait for a seat) and bring cash! I recommend the corned beef hash and over easy eggs were perfectly cooked. We also enjoyed the classic biscuits and gravy. Was once my favorite place to eat in DC. I've been eating here since the mid 90s and always stop here when I'm back. The love for preparing the food is long gone. No more oddball coffee mugs, just paper cups. At least the coffee was good, but despite being offered a refill two times, it never came. Never got my water. And the simple two eggs over easy with wheat toast and bacon was about as sad as a school lunch. The potatoes for $2.50 were a comical five slices. I never minded that the place was run down, but the dust in there is older than my adult children. The food prep was always unexplainably slow, but the inept server just made the experience painful. Keep me in coffee, and everything would have been tolerated. read more

They serve shoestring fries - just like McDonalds, but not as golden and not as crispy. The sandwich had good structure and was filling, but the chicken was bland and dry. I could've used some more sauce. I think I'm used to Nando's chicken which is moister and full of saucy flavor. Other people at the table ordered the fish and chips ($24) which looked good - it came with two large, meaty pieces of cod and the same shoestring fries. Also on the menu - Matchbox now serves sushi! Service was sufficient but a little absentminded, particularly for drinks. Some people never got their water (I think she forgot) and drinks were never refilled - cups were empty. We were checked on a couple of times, but drink service was often overlooked. Food trickled out for our group. It came in about three waves. It was a reasonable wait (nothing offensively long), but it's always nice when the food comes out at the same time, or when some verbal acknowledgement is given to say that everyone's food would be out shortly. I would say food and service were average overall.
