I have had my vehicles take care of by The Car Dr. for about 14 years. I've never had suspisions that I was being taken advantage of. Actually Scott, the manager, has worked with me in the past to prioritize maintenance and repairs. Things other shops had said needed to be fixed right away, for lots of money no less, he showed me on the vehicle that the repairs weren't neccessary. I recommend The Car Dr to anyone who asks. I went here on recommendation from my coworker to get my alternator replaced in June of last year. It wasn't cheap, but I appreciated that they were very kind about it and got it done somewhat timely (took an extra day than originally said but that's fine). Well, in late April, less than a year after getting this work done, my car starts having stalling problems. I took it into a different shop, and they determined that the alternator had completely gone bad and would need to be replaced AGAIN. I commute, but this was maybe 15,000-20,000 miles at most that was put on this alternator. After showing my mechanic my initial bill, he was floored at the price ($800-$900), saying it was double what was typical for that kind of work. I would NOT recommend taking your car here. I no longer live in the area so I can't try to get that alternator replaced again with them, but I also do not trust where the parts are sourced from. EDIT: In addition, when I took my car to a new shop to get the alternator replaced, the mechanic told me frankly: "You got scammed, the alternator [that came out of my car] looks incredibly old and it was never going to last very long." read more

Our area is blessed with a wonderful auto repair center! Car Doctor Plus. It's previous life was reliable and trustworthy, however, as retirement closed it down and then it returned to new 'life', we wondered if this new and sparkly rendition would live up to its predecessor. The answer is a resounding YES! Their communication, friendliness and concern for our satisfaction is exactly what we want from the people that doctor our car! We took our car to the dealership that has always serviced it...their diagnosis and cost seemed reasonable but we wanted a 2nd opinion. Car Doctor Plus found the same issues + one AND did all the work for several hundred dollars less. They are also community minded, helping the local schools with needed supplies. Went in for an inspection, and met the owner. But what really impressed me was an unhappy customer came in to complain and how the owner allowed the staff to handle the situation with integrity and honesty. Ultimately the customer was wrong. The owner didn't try to pull rank! read more

My vehicle was towed to the Car Doctor because it was close. The linkage cable to the transmission broke. The lady at the shop talked to my friend who was driving the vehicle into accepting a diagnostic which would not show any evidence of a broken cable that was already pointed out by the tow truck driver. When we got the bill it was over $600.00. If you do don want to be taken to the cleaners do not go there. To top it off they only had one mechanic and he didn't even show up the next day we had to wait. read more

Do not come here unless you want to be overcharged. I took my car to be looked at because there was smoke coming from my engine. They determined it was the valve cover gasket and wanted to charge me over $900 to fix. They also said it would take a couple days. I also asked them to clean out my sunroof drain which was leaking water into my car and they didn't do it. He said he would but didnt. It was raining that day so my car got soaked. I called breedens to see how much they would charge for the valve cover gasket repair and they said a little over $300. Car doctor charged me $135 for a diagnostic fee for 1 hr which im sure took them less than 30 min. Breedens charges $60. 0 Stars! Save yourself some money and go to Breedens. read more

I found these guys pretty reasonable, although a bit pricey with an oil change. They changed my starter motor for about $400, which I think is a pretty fair price (parts and labor). However, on a separate occasion I was charged $80 for an synthetic oil change. That's too much. So I will keep going there for repairs, but look for specials elsewhere for oil changes. read more

This place is great and honest. My check engine light was on, I needed some repairs, and my car would not pass inspection. They quoted me a reasonable price for the diagnostic and repairs. They also did not try to get me to do repairs or services that were not needed. They repaired my car , it passed inspection, and now the car has been driving better than ever ! I had the misfortune of having my brakes go when I went down to visit my in-laws at Lake of the Woods. My luck got even worse when I brought my car into the Car Doctor. They charged me $1100 for a brake job and went out of their way to replace parts (calipers, hoses) that definitely did not need to be replaced. Except unfortunately I did not know that at the time. And, to top it all off, they were dishonest. When I countered the estimate and asked for a reduced price they said they would take some money off. When I came back to get my car a few hours later I was presented with a full-price bill. I said what happened to the reduction? The owner told me "I said I'd look for places to reduce the bill but couldnt find any." It was a lie- he had said he'd reduce the price- and was particularly insulting given that he was making a profit of many hundreds of dollars on the job. I think I'll walk home in the future if the only other option is having the Car Doctor pick my pocket. read more

I moved to Lake of the Woods two years ago. I have had brakes placed on a 2012 Ford Focus, had oil changes, on my 2016 Chevy Colorado Truck, and have had my brother in-laws Ford Focus serviced. In addition I get my cars inspected there also. All work was done to my satisfaction and on time. The prices are not the lowest but are fair. I have never had a problem with quality. The Car Doctor is without a doubt the worst business I have ever had to deal with. About 5 or 6 years ago I took my Passat to them and was told I needed a new engine at a cost of $8000. I had the car towed to a local dealer and they fixed it for $1500 and it has lasted another 170,000 miles and counting. Then just this past week I took my daughters car to them to get an inspection and oil change. I figured what could go wrong. Well they did over $300 of additional unnecessary repairs that weren't properly authorized and when I refused to pay the extra charges they took my car hostage depriving my daughter of her mode of transportation for school. As of today I still have not got my car back. Please whatever you do never take your car to the Car Doctor!!!!! read more

I used the Car Doctor twice. Once for my Ford Focus and once for my Chevy Colorado. On the Ford I got an inspection and oil change. I have owned the car for12 years and new it needed brakes before I took it in. The did the inspection, oil change and brake job for a very rereasonable price. I bought the Chevy used and had them inspect it. The did not find anything wrong. Very pleased with them. read more

I've been totally satisfied with these guys in every way. I have three cars, from a GTI to an F150, and they've seen them all at one time or another. This place is a horrible scam. The staff is very rude. Went in for diagnostic work, and they failed to tell me that the entire undercarriage was rusted out. Instead they went ahead and ordered parts without asking, and then called me saying it will be $550 for the parts and work. The vehicle was only worth $900. When I told them I will not be putting $550 into a $900 vehicle they became very rude and started complaining about how they already started working and had it up on the lift- again, all I wanted was diagnostics. After the event, I spoke to neighbors in Lake of the Woods and they all had similar stories. read more

I would definitely not recommend this car shop at all! The guy at the shop "Scott" is completely dishonest and out to just be greedy and get money! I took my vehicle here to get it looked at and they wanted to charge me $700 just fix a water pump and serpentine belt!! We went and told him just go ahead and only fix the water pump. I personally think even $420 was to high to fix a water pump but, I had agreed to just pay. When i had arrived at the shop to pick it up, the price was a big total difference . He charged me $490 for the water pump and i argued to him that he originally told me it was just going to cost $420. SCOTT stated that he put antifreeze and this and that in it and that he never told me $420 was the cost! Liar, Liar, Liar! And Dishonest! I would never ever take my vehicle to this place again. I hate mechanics who are dishonest and out to rip people off knowing that the job doesn't take that long. read more

I have been a customer of the Car Doctor for a few years, and have always left satisfied. I was compelled to post after extraordinary service on my Tahoe after brake failure, in which the ruptured line left me without stopping ability. The Car Doctor saw my car that day and replaced all of the defective lines, at a more than reasonable price. I paid them quite a bit of money to repair a minor problem. Every time the car left the shop, it had a new problem. I thought they would fix it for free, since they began after they worked on it, but they continued to charge me. I finally had enough after the Check Engine light came on and they said it was fine. The Auto Medic 1 is right down the road, and I had exactly the opposite treatment from them. I wish the had been open the day I needed them. read more
