I attended a corporate event at the caramel room last night. The location was a little bit difficult to find, but once we got there and were parked in the private gated parking lot with two security guards, we were directed to the fourth floor event space. I agree with the other reviewers, the event space is really beautiful, modern, and well laid out. When you walk in off the elevator, you cross the dance floor and then the very long bar with plenty of high top cocktail tables, circular settees, and cute swings. Since this is an event space, there were no barstools at the actual bar, which is fine. The restrooms are also located at the end of the bar and the Women's restroom was modern and clean. We had four bartenders and they were all very sweet. The pours were not measured out in shot glasses, but they were nice pours. The cocktails were basic, such as margarita, whiskey sour, wines, etc. Our bartender did not know how to make a lemon drop martini. Entering the ballroom/dining area, you are struck by the sparkly, curtain chandeliers. They really are striking. I couldn't stop looking at them LOL!Our dinner was set up with large round tables of 10 seats each. The bread basket contained pretzel rolls and regular bread rolls and they were good, but nothing special. I loved the presentation of the butter which was a really pretty swirl. I ordered the scallops that came with sautéed spinach and I couldn't put my finger on what was mixed with the sautéed spinach but it was really good. The scallops were sitting in a light orange colored sauce and I don't know what that was either but it was delicious and the scallops were a bit small, but cooked very well. Others enjoyed their steaks with sautéed spinach & potato wedges. The chicken Parmesan was served with roasted broccoli and the huge chicken breast was so large, no one finished it. The broccoli was plain and dry and not very well received. Oh, I forgot to mention the salad which had apple chunks & crispy sweet potato haystacks on top - it was really delicious. For dessert our options were hibiscus mousse with a hibiscus macaron or a chocolate shell which was filled with whipped cream and strawberries. Both were super yummy! The wait staff had to encourage us all to leave the dining room after dinner to go back out to the bar area and the upstairs area so they could clear the tables. The upstairs area is just a long hallway with high top tables overlooking the floor below, and access to the rooftop with lounge seating, high tops & fire pits. There was a beautiful view of a suspension bridge, but I don't know the name of it. I spent the most of the evening on the rooftop since it was so nice outside and the DJ was super loud inside. I would recommend this venue. It's suited for very large parties and weddings, it's just really far from St. Peters. I would like to give kudos to the wait staff and bartenders, the service was excellent and everyone had big smiles on their faces. It was a fun night! I normally take tons of pictures but since this was a corporate event, I was too uncomfortable to do so. it was a struggle. I really really wanted to take photos of the food. LOL! Sorry! read more

Love, love, love! The brunch was amazing. The bottomless mimosas was on point the servers insured that we were taken care of the food. OMG OMG I will be back when in town if you are looking for a brunch that is unique and offers flare look no further. Parking is secure on a private lot. The Father's Day brunch included a menu to really enjoy. There were crab legs, steak, chicken wings, waffles, sausage, bacon, so many options the desserts added an extra touch poundcake red velvet cake. I wanted to eat everything unfortunately I had to practice moderation. read more

Incredibly gorgeous facility. We were only there for a wedding. Wish we would have been able to take the tour of the factory and the chocolate shop. I loved the decor of The Caramel Room. Very elegant and modern. Even the tiniest details were incredible. The Bathroom door handles and sink had rhinestones! The outdoor terrace was enormous and a beautiful view of some of the city. Was very impressed with the way dinner was served. The servers all circled the table and laid down the plates all at once so that no one had to wait and were all served exactly at the same time. Very amused and impressed and now wish everywhere I go had the same impeccable service. read more

The Caramel Room's design and beauty was lovely and deserve more stars but the food is a drawback. I was shocked at the lack of presentation but more so by the lack of food!! My husband and I attended a very nice gala there a couple of weeks ago. ($350 per person) By 7:30 everyone was ready for dinner and I think everyone's face said it all when it was served. No bread, skimpy salad, no tea, a Cornish hen sized chicken entree and I suppose some cheese and a bit of cauliflower under the chicken. More plate than food. Dessert was a tiny chocolate square about the size of a hotel bar of soap. That's it! To top it off--no chocolates at all. We had to leave there and get something to eat afterwards because we were starving! We will definitely eat dinner before attending an event there again--not sure that we will ever return. read more

I have been to the Caramel Room for a few events now and finally decided to write a review. Seriously love this place! My favorite part is the outdoor terrace where I spent most of my time during the events: great view that is rarely taken advantage of in STL, nice seating, fire pits and bistro lights. There were all kinds of food stations that I found quite nice: hot, full, and we got food at any time we wanted. I know Bissingers is known for their chocolates, but you have to have the bread pudding here! All in all, if you're familiar with event venues in STL, the Caramel Room is clearly one of the best. read more

If you want to put a capital "R" in romance for your wedding, go to the Caramel Room at Bissinger's. The space is captivating and beautiful. The entire 4th floor is dedicated to the event space and every inch is comfortable and inviting but also cozy and serene. When you come off the elevator, straight ahead against the wall is a lovely cream settee flanked by two large cream lighting fixtures. It has an old Hollywood 1920's vibe to it. You turn the corner and this is the large cocktail room with stairs leading to a balcony and the outdoor seating. The servers are attentive and the drinks they mix with their signature chocolates are divine. They also do large scale receptions and the meals are not the typical dry chicken dinners you get at a hotel. I had a roast beef with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Very simple yet so elegant and better than any dinner I've had at the Fours Seasons in downtown St. Louis. Yeah. It was that good. If you have the cash to spend, do The Caramel Room. read more

I couldn't say more positive things about this event space, the staff, and the food. The renovation was outstanding and even minute details like the bathroom stall handles were addressed. I love the outdoor space with the lounge seating and the fire pits! The space is naturally wonderful but is also beautiful dressed up. The staff is also knowledgeable, courteous, and want every guest to enjoy themselves! Probably the best part is the food. Chef Nick is one of the most talented, innovative chefs in St. Louis. He can make something as simple as roasted chicken seem special. His cheese puffs in the soup are to die for... and I'm not exaggerating. I had my wedding reception here with a little over 200 guests. Words can't express how wonderful this team is. Robert and Katerina are truly the best. Robert really is with you every step of the way when planning the many details associated with the event. His suggestions and expertise really prove for a seamless execution of what his staff and team are capable of. Katerina, on the catering side, proves to be knowledgeable in her trade and is a pleasure to work with as well. Multiple guests told me this was the best wedding food they've ever had. I consider myself a very organized and meticulous person but they really covered all their bases! Their attention to detail, professional interaction with all the vendors and warm disposition really made the whole process fun. Attended an engagement party here. Catering for around 200 people. All vegetarian with Indian focus. The spacemitswlfmis fantastic. Elegant and modern with good flow. The food was some of the best cetered food I've had in St Louis. Roasted veggies lasagna, samosas withbhoisemade chutney, croissant sandwich station, quino super food salad. Roasted potatoes, waffles, bagels, a variety of cream cheeses. The absolute best Dinah mushroom quiche I've ever had, And unbelievable dessert station. Mimosa bar with fruit and of course good coffee. This place really turned up for this event. I will consider this for events in the future and hope to attend more events here. Location dues not seem great but there is secure parking and it easy to get to. read more

Let me add to the discussion with my own experience: I was looking to book a space for my wedding reception and was very interested in The Caramel Room because of the beautiful pictures of the Caramel Room that I saw online. I contacted Danielle to schedule a viewing. The experience was terrible. To be clear, I was looking to book a Saturday evening reception during peak season (a minimum cost of $25K). First, Danielle's correspondence over email was terrible. Instead of giving me information about the venue, she would write about how busy they were. I wondered if they wanted my business at all. I arrived at the venue for our scheduled appointment time. I made my way up to the 3rd floor and found a receptionist. When the receptionist called Danielle to let her know I was there, she whispered "...she's by herself..." to Danielle on the phone. Ok...that's weird and it felt judgmental but moving on. I met Danielle and she showed me the space. I had been to several other appointments where the event coordinators would enthusiastically show me the space so that I could imagine how the rooms would be set up the day of the event. Danielle, on the other hand, stood there with her arms crossed while I asked all the questions. Honestly, we had several long awkward pauses when I expected her to say something...anything...and got nothing in return. HERE'S THE THING THAT GOT ME: The entire time I was with Danielle I felt that she was sizing me up. I imagined her thinking to herself, "Can she afford to have an event here?". Upon meeting her, she inconspicuously looked at my engagement ring. It's not like she did it and said "oh, that's pretty". No, it was definitely like she was judging me. She even asked what I did for work! My fiancé couldn't make it to the appointment (it was in the middle of a weekday), and I felt judged for that too. I was prepared to spend more than $25K for a wedding at the Caramel Room. They were classist and rude. If they treat me like my business doesn't matter to them BEFORE I give them money, how will they treat me when I have forked over my cash and they are no longer trying to woo me? I could not imagine working with them. I would dread every appointment. I would advise anyone looking for venues to at least spend some time with Jodi at Windows on Washington or the folks at Randall Gallery to learn what real customer service is supposed to be. My son and daughter-law gave me a 60th birthday party at The Caramel Room. What a wonderful evening. The hors d'oeuvres just kept coming and the dinner was superb! The food and service were excellent and the room is nothing like any other event space you will ever find. I had such high hopes for this place, especially because the venue is beautiful. As a downtown resident I was so excited to see this place open. Attended two events here and was disappointed both times. I work in the service industry so I understand sometimes things happen, but there were no excuses for the things that went wrong. One example is you are serving 250+ people and at the mashed potato station you have one pan of mashed potatoes out and when it runs out it can't be immediately replaced. Of course I went to the other stations while I waited, but to my surprise all the food was empty! Over half of the party had not even received food yet. Not being able to keep the food on the buffet full was the same issue at the first event I went to too, The biggest upset for me is we were supposed to have premium bar, it was much to my surprise when my choice of vodka was McCormicks! There excuse for this afterwards is that it was a mishap. Unacceptable! I think they are not ready to handle such large parties. Big mistake on their part as I didn't hear one good review from my fellow employees, such a shame. The only reason I gave this review 2 stars is because the venue space is absolutely great! This room is very dark in spite of the lovely modern chandeliers and hard wood flooring and looks exactly like it once was, a factory warehouse. The reception area is long and narrow and not conducive to mingling. The service was inconsistent at best and the food meh. I am not sure what the room capacity is, but it was too small for 150. Tables were tightly packed allowing little walking room and the dance floor was too small to handle the crowd. read more

If all you would like to do is sit outside around a fire pit and have a few drinks, this place is perfect. But if you plan to host a large gathering for dinner and dessert, I strongly recommend you run away quickly. We attended a dinner here and the staff was completely unprepared to handle a large group and the food was barely edible. Many tables had eaten and left before our table received any food at all. The rolls were dry and hard like they had been sitting open on the counter for a couple of days. This was true of the dessert cake as well. And I might have been able to choke them down if I could dampen them with water or coffee, but good luck getting that. When the coffee finally arrived, it was barely warm. The other dinner items were nothing special but were at least edible. This venue has potential, but they have a very long way to go. read more

The Carmel Room is an amazing space. Rivaling the Ritz Carlton and The Four Seasons, the incredible design, custom culinary options, unique location (inside a working chocolate factory), and its remarkable service by the friendly staff - it is a space that has become the "it" venue for events in St. Louis. Perhaps my favorite part about the Carmel Room is that it is stunning without additional decor elements, yet it perfectly compliments every color palate and any opulent or more modest designs. This place is truly one of the best places I have been in a while for a reception. It is a nice change of place from the same old place for weddings in the Saint Louis area.
