Thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. It was an unexpected bonus with the package deal my golfing group booked. I ate seafood for the first few nights and thoroughly enjoyed the prawns and scallops. The food is really really bad. There was almost nothing good there. I'm sitting at dinner now, and hoping that dessert is better than the appetizer and entree. I had a wedge salad that was average at best, followed by a ribeye that was absolutely atrocious. I mean so bad that I could barely eat it. Two of my friends also ordered New York strips that were terrible. Sides were bad, veal was bad, lobster tail was bad. Good ambiance, pretty good service, but the food was definitely a miss. I was staying at the Pinehurst Resort and didn't want to venture out on my first night. After reading the Yelp reviews, I decided that the Carolina Dining Room on the property would be a good choice. Wow, was I wrong. The service was fine, but the food was not and way overpriced. I ordered the Oysters Pinehurst (similar to Oysters Rockefeller) to start. They were cold - not even at room temperature. I ordered the surf and turf for my entree. I asked that the filet be cooked medium. It came well done and had the consistency of shoe leather. I paid a rather large sum for this awful dining experience. I wish I had gone into town for dinner. read more

Carolina Dining Room is a wonderful place to spend a special evening. I brought my wife here for her birthday and everything was in perfect order. Truly a great breakfast buffet. The eggs, waffles, french toast were all first rate. My only complaint is that the bagels are subpar. They are not New York bagels, or even close. The piano player, and helpful staff truly give you a true Southern atmosphere. Do not forget the fruit, and grits! read more

We're here for US Kids Golf World Championships and wanted to splurge one night while in Pinehurst. We are so glad that we chose The Carolina Dining Room. I highly suggest reservations-I walked up to the concierge (very friendly and helpful) to make ours. My daughter is 11, so I was very impressed that the restaurant even has a 'young adult' menu in addition to their kids menu. I found the price of her petite filet with green beans and mashed potatoes to be just right. It was cooked to perfection and she ate the entire entree, except for the bite I took of her filet - which was outstanding. My wife and I ordered 2 apps - Fried green tomatoes and the Oysters Pinehurst - both 5 stars! I ordered the Heritage Pork Tenderloin as my entree and I was very pleased with the depth of flavors and the Sweet Potato Bread Pudding was great. My wife had the Steak Diane and it was the most tender steak she's had in ages. Not to miss was the Mile-High Key Lime Pie - you have to try it. As expected with a high end resort, the service was spot on. We were greeted by name as if we were locals by everyone that we encountered. Abner, our head waiter was on time with the entire service and we were left wanting for nothing. If there was anything I could improve upon about this experience, it did not come to me while writing this review. We plan to attend Sunday breakfast in a couple of days, I'm sure I'll be writing another glowing review. read more

My husband and I travel the world and have rarely encountered such incredible service like they give at The Carolina. From the hostess to the person cleaning the table, every single person makes you feel like family. We've eaten at many of the places around here ( we just moved here part time) and this is our favorite place to have breakfast and dinner. The breakfast buffet is very good and the food is fresh. The dinner selection is varied enough to eat here every night if we wanted to. My favorite dish is the surf and turf with the truffle seared filet. The chef consistently cooks it to perfection. I can't begin to say how disappointed I was this morning in the $29.99 breakfast buffet. After a light (and disappointing) dinner last night I wanted a big, hot breakfast to start my day. To my surprise everything I tried - from the grits to the sausage links, biscuits and even the baguette French toast was cold. I told my waiter how disappointed I was so he brought the manager over. She offered to have the chef make me a hot meal. I declined since I needed to get back to my room to do some work. She said well then we'll get your check squared away. I sat there stunned and said "you're going to charge for $30 for a cold breakfast I barely ate?" After she got visibly upset with me she said "don't worry just leave." As I was walking away she very sarcastically called after me "have a nice day". I am stunned. I've been coming to Pinehurst for an annual meeting for years and have never had a bad meal or been treated in such a rude manner. Overall there just seems to be something off this trip. Our dinner service last night in the Ryder Room was slow and incomplete. My house salad with grilled chicken was just a salad - the chicken came 15 minutes later at the same time as my co-workers entire meal. I hope this is just a blip and my own bad luck because I would hate for such a historic resort to loose its "luster." read more

We just finished dinner here a few hours ago and I couldn't wait to get home to write this review. Outstanding is the first word that comes to mind when I think about this place. We drove an hour to celebrate my birthday and I am already looking forward to returning for our next special occasion. Our server was sincere, helpful and pleasant, the food was superb and the host/manager was a delight. I got the ribeye, my husband the chicken and neither of us could have been happier with our entree. The brownie sundae for dessert was fantastic and even the sweet tea was good which I wasn't expecting. This will definitely be our "go to" special occasion restaurant because, living in Fayetteville, it's hard to find true fine dining so it is worth the trip. How nice to be surrounded by professionals who know how to serve their guests and go above and beyond to ensure that everything goes well. We are a couple of local families looking for a lovely place to have dinner tonight. We are celebrating our friends 50th anniversary. The Carolina dining room is a hit. We enjoyed a lovely bottle of wine together and then an exquisite dinner. We all had our favorites, Steak Diane cooked perfectly, Pork OSSo Bucco..to die for. My husband had Pasta with Shrimp and then my other friend had the veal. We also shared a "Mile High Keylime Pie". We are not kidding, you have to try it. Our waiter, Clevelandi was a floor show, so much fun. Daniel, the manager made himself available to our table to meet every expectation. As I said, we are local, so it was especially nice to enjoy the evening at a lovely restaurant full of ambiance. I do wish they would reestablish the piano player during dinner hours, I do miss that from a few years ago. All in all, a nice place to enjoy a lovely dinner. We will be back soon. read more

While the Carolina Room Restaurant at the Pinehurst Resort does not appear to have any "official" designation of stars (AAA, Forbes etc.), I find this singular omission puzzling. As one can see from this review, I believe it is worthy of at least 4 if not 5 stars - certainly if a recent Thanksgiving offering is anything to go by. Upon entering the restaurant, the (buffet) setting amidst autumnal foliage creates an immediate welcoming ambiance to spaciously separated tables many of which have delightful views of the resort's well-tended horticulture. The substantial buffet itself was comprised of numerous creative dishes as well as the traditional items. The light curry pumpkin soup (but not "hot" spicy), as well as a selection of fresh oysters, shrimps and assorted antipasti treats, were perfect complements to the main course(s) to follow; there were an abundance of turkey stations as well as seafood options and multiple vegan choices for persons of that persuasion. The various accompanying sauces and gravies were delicious to a T (golf pun intended) as was the subtle garlic flavor infused into the stuffing that was clearly (correctly) prepared without cooking inside the "belly-of-the bird" as it were. One also could not help noticing that hot plates were available at all times for the hot food, an all too infrequent occurrence even at many upscale establishments. It must also be commented that it was a pleasure to encounter a wine list of excellent vintages that were not overpriced. Being devotees of online mobile access, we took the time to look up some items on the list so we could make an informed choice. It paid off; we found an absolutely delicious Argentinian Malbec that perfectly complemented our choices of food. Finally a word about the service; it was generally very efficient (prompt attention from greeting upon arrival, to entry and exit) as well as highly courteous. One exception was our main wait person who, to put it diplomatically, could do with some remedial personality training; example: I wanted some ice cream with dessert (which by the way was a delicious selection of obviously homemade pies, cakes and fruits) and was told bluntly that this was not possible. In an upscale restaurant? I finally suggested that an inquiry be made to the kitchen to the effect that a morsel might be located in a freezer. A scowling departure was shortly followed by a manager who appeared as if out of the ether and very courteously asked what flavor I preferred, i.e. it was no problem. Curiously, said staff member with the personality challenge was quite cheerful and condescending to our neighboring patrons; maybe our party (of two) had emerged from our matutinal ablutions of the day with the wrong deodorant.
