The catfish here was one of my favorites. We got the seafood tower for our family of four, which was A LOT of food. It had a little bit of everything and one of my kids wanted to try the fried oysters since she's never had oysters before. The catfish, crawfish tails, and shrimp were all good. The fried oysters were awful! Looks like they just grabbed a handful of oysters and threw them in the batter and then the fryer. The food is as fresh as it gets. Great portion size, great taste, absolutely wonderful. It can get crowded and loud, but with food this good that makes sense. Prices are on average with every other seafood place in the area, but portions are bigger. They had problems getting our orders right at first, but that's been fixed. I went to get crawfish that i was craving SO bad and unfortunately I was disappointed:( there was not much spice, they were pretty over cooked, and tiny. However, the staff was very helpful and nice. I will defiantly go back to try their other food the crawfish just wasn't for me. The drink prices are very good and they have an assortment of margaritas! read more

Went to The Catch 8/30 - keep thinking we will have something new and both had the catfish and shrimp again. Good as always and nice folks. Regular order is one good-sized thick juicy fillet and a half dozen shrimp, crispy fries and a couple hush puppies. Good food, good price. Maybe I'll try something new next time. This is for the location on Old Jacksonville Hwy. Great quality food, well cooked, not greasy (it was fried wonderfully). Was too much for me to eat, but it was great for lunch the next day. This is a wonderful place to eat. The only other place to get decent seafood, in my opinion, is Clear Springs. The food from The Catch is far better. I get the catfish and shrimp plate. The fish is battered and seasoned well and the shrimp was amazing. The portion is just right. read more

Firstimer here. They were pretty steady with guests at 14:30. The food was great. The food was perfectly cooked and hot, it had not been under a heat lamp. You order and they deliver it to your table. We were checked on several times during the meal. We ordered the shrimp catfish combo and would order it again. Can't wait to try some grilled shrimp next time. read more

Seriously, the best service! Great friendly & knowledgeable staff. The hush puppies are to die for! Make sure you get the dipping sauce to go with the hush puppies, you won't want to eat them any where else. We had a large group of about 20 people, the staff was quick and very accommodating. Food was well prepared and presented. The manager made a point to take good care of each individual she spoke to. I appreciated the attention to detail when it came to meal prep and the care shown to the customer. I tried to call my order in but no one would answer the phone. I drove there to order and service was good. Order shrimp Poboy with fries and a large fried shrimp with fries and shrimp, crawfish, and sausage gumbo. The shrimp were jumbo and the best part of the whole meal. the wait staff was ok but not good.. our waitress was nice but brought me fries when I asked for coleslaw.. the food had no flavor!! The sausage Gumbo was very good. The fried Oyster Po-boy was tasty, but small. My wife had the Catfish basket and was very disappointed. I sampled hers and I was discouraged as well. Very fishy!!!! I will give them another shot. Next time I will try the Craw-fish. read more

I went to this place and was WOWED! I got to try the oysters which by the way were the best in Tyler,the gumbo and clam chowder were great! and of course the jumbo shrimp is to die for, and the whitefish will put Long John Silvers out of business.Next time I will try the Poboys. We ate at "The Catch" while we were visiting in Tyler and the food was exceptional. I ordered the shrimp tacos and they were the best that I have had. Tried this place after reading a review in Texas Monthly. We had an oyster basket and a fried shrimp basket with clam chowder. While the oysters were excellent and the shrimp were ok, they came with the worst french fries I've ever had. The fries are sliced thin and are smashed in the bottom of the basket. No crispness at all. Also, be sure to tell them if you don't want the cajun seasoning they apparently automatically assume you want. It is terrible to my taste. Service was average but the place a little noisy. All in all I cannot recommend unless you want decent seafood for take out. read more

First we called and asked if they had crawfish etouffee and they said yes so we decided to come try! I love crawfish so I was super excited! We got there to order and surprise they don't serve crawfish etouffee.. Frustrating because we called and came all the way there for it. Anyway I love boiled crawfish so I ordered two pounds and was excited to eat that since it's barely season so it just started selling! It's $7.99 a pound there and that's just ridiculous because the quality is HORRIBLE!! I wouldn't mind paying that money per pound if it was decent tasting but it had absolutely NO flavor just a little spicy but tasted very watery. I had to dip it lemon juice just to get some sort of taste with the seasoning they have on the table. Of course I ate every last crawfish because it was so much money and I wasn't about to waste it. Needless to say we won't be coming back. We will go to the location in Kilgore from now on. read more

Having grown up in Virginia Beach, I'm a seafood snob. Finding THE CATCH restaurant was one of the best "catches" for me here in Tyler. The boiled shrimp is seasoned to taste, the whitefish is flaky and delicious, and the New England clam chowder is out of this world. My absolute favorite has to be the crab legs! Wow! Served hot and perfectly cooked, the legs crack exactly as they should so the meat slides from the shell.... ready to dip in hot drawn butter! First time visiting The Catch today. Ordered the Ambassador platter. Great food, great vibe, nice portions. This place will become a regular place to have lunch. Love it. Menu is simple, and broad. They have fried seafood, fresh cut fries (WHICH IS A RARE TREAT IN TYLER), great looking salads, fish tacos. Plenty of choices, regardless of your eating preferences. Highly recommend. went last night for the gumbo and grits. my husband got the combo. i opted for just the gumbo and we split the grits. they charged me only 70 cents less for my gumbo. when i asked if the grits were only 70 cents. they said they were 2.49. i asked why the gumbo alone was only 70 cents less, they told me that was the price and that they don't set the prices. we have been going to the catch since it opened and have always liked it. will not be back since they were so rude. read more

I travel a lot and am always on the look for new and unique restaurants. No doubt I found one here! You have to try the shrimp, oysters, crawfish tails and whitefish!! First time will definitely turn into a next time. Cant say enough about how fresh and good the food was! The admirals feast and oyster basket were delicious. You get twice the food that's half the price of other seafood chains! The oysters, shrimp, whitefish, crawfish tails, chicken tenders and hushpuppies were wonderful and perfectly prepared! You also have to try the remoulade. It's the best I've had anywhere! The frozen margarita ranks up there with one of the best I've had too. Last, but not least the owner and staff were attentive and extremely friendly. You have to try this place out and support local business! My boyfriend and I intend on making this a weekly spot! I got the grilled shrimp meal with veggies, you get 4 pieces of shrimp and not so fresh veggies (dripping in butter and soggy), I didn't even get the bread that comes with it. Great staff and great food. The French bread on the poboys is just as good as what you get in New Orleans. The shrimp are fried to perfection and not over cooked. The gumbo is great and so is the etoufee. Having lived in South Louisiana, this is the closest thing to real Cajun food that I have had in this part of the country. read more

Went and ordered the boiled crawfish and it had no flavor. We had to cover it in the seasoning salt on the table to even taste anything. The person taking our order was rude and seemed upset to be at work and it showed in her customer service. Went for for the first time last night. Staff seemed more concerned with talking to each other than getting us served. I ordered the regular order of fried catfish which comes with 10 pieces and fries. The fries were on the bottom of the basket and were refrigerator cold. 7 pieces of fish were fried hot. 3 were as cold as the fries. Not room temperature cold, refrigerator cold. My wife ordered a shrimp Po-boy. The shrimp were chewy undercooked and her fries were cold also. We ordered a salad and the pieces of vegetables were too large to eat and we only had a small plastic fork to try and cut them up. The staffs attention to detail is the biggest problem. Everything that was wrong could have been easily avoided. They just did not care. We complained and were offered gift cards for the next visit which I declined because there will not be a next visit ever! This should be a No Star but it requires me to put one to post. read more

We went on a night that they were not as busy as they are during lunch. The staff was very friendly and upbeat. They explained the menu thoroughly. The food that was delivered was wrong which seemed to be a problem throughout the restaurant. The gentleman (owner?) that was sending orders out seemed flustered and short with his employees when they asked for the correct order. The food was ok. I was not impressed with the fries, too many of them and too cold. Gumbo needed more seasoning to uphold its cajun roots. Hushpuppies were great! The banana pudding was hands down the best I have ever had! (From what I understand that is a high school culinary student recipe and dessert). I was mostly disappointed that the High School group wasn't there and involved like the restaurant promoted that they would be. I have a child that wants to be a chef and thought this would be a great opportunity to see students in action. I will be returning during the day to meet the students and to see more of their creativity on a plate. read more

I recently went to The Catch in Tyler with my wife and two kids. As we walked in we were greeted by at least 3 people before we even made it to the order counter. Everyone was very friendly! Although my wife is the seafood lover (I only eat it on occasion) we were both pleasantly surprised by the freshness and overall quality of the food! My catfish was was lightly battered in corn meal and cooked perfectly and I really liked the coleslaw I got as my side. My wife had grilled shrimp and fish and she said they were very good. Even my kids were blown away by the portion size of the kids meals! My daughter's popcorn shrimp were huge as compared to other place's popcorn shrimp which tend to be more breading than shrimp. Not so at The Catch! My son had the fish and chips and he emptied his plate! Okay it wasn't a plate, but a lined paper basket. And yes, the eating utensils are plastic and the drinking glasses are styrofoam. Who cares? The food is excellent! We will definitely be coming back! By the way, we travel to Waco, TX a lot and we hear they are opening another "Catch" there as well! Count us in! read more
