I almost don't want to write this review, because I don't want Chelsea to become too busy and no longer available for me to hire. What more can I say? She literally is the BEST Cat sitter in Portland. OK, in the interest of total honesty, no I have not tried every sitter in the PDX area so I can't compare, but all I can say is, if there is a better sitter available then you had better hire that person immediately! I have never seen a work ethic like hers in my life, and I am from the East Coast. She is efficient, responsible, trust worthy and truly cares about animals. There's no faking it here people, she honestly loves cats! (In fact, my cats like her more than me!) I have used her services several times and always been beyond pleased. It really takes a weight off your shoulders to know you hired such a responsible person you can count on. She has above average communication skills providing detailed emails daily (along with photos) to read while away. Also operates a very well run business model. Having a professional web interface to coordinate and schedule visits makes things so much easier and adds to the top notch communication. In closing, you can't go wrong hiring her. I was a bit nervous about writing a review for Chelsea because I wasn't sure that I would be able to accurately convey how truly amazing she is. How do I even begin? I knew from the start that she was incredible when she showed up for the intake meeting with a detailed checklist and asked incredibly intuitive questions about their behavior (Should I go and find them if they are hiding under the bed when I arrive or let them be? Are they afraid of the vacuum if I end up needing to use it?) as well as the normal questions about their feeding / litter habits (which she took scrupulous notes on). Beyond the basic cleaning of their bowls, watering, feeding, box duty, Chelsea has truly studied and understands what makes them happy and what they need while I am away. Have I mentioned her incredible documentation of their time with her!? Every, single, day Chelsea will send you a thrilling and detailed story of her time with them (+amazing photos!), how they're feeling, what games they played (she even made up new games!), along with feeding, drinking and poop reports. The foundation of all of this caring and documentation is true love for my cats. She speaks cat and cat owner and has a tremendous heart for both along with impeccable communication and organization skills. I use Yelp often but have never submitted a review - until now. I've used The Cat's Meow services (specifically the fabulous Lindsey Elliott) two or three times over the past few years, and continue to be so impressed I finally dug out my Yelp password, found a non-horrific profile photo, and started typing. Lindsey cared for my two elderly cats while I was away on a two-week vacation recently, and I felt 100% secure that they were in good hands the entire time. I am that crazy person who sets up a security camera specifically so I can 'check in' on my babies from afar during a trip - but with Lindsey's daily updates and photos, I didn't feel the need to log in all! It was clear that Lindsey quickly figured out my senior cats' personalities and made adjustments along the way so each of them enjoyed adequate cuddle time with a minimum of conflict or loss of fur. (why can't I give it more stars?) My recent experience with Chelsea at The Cat's Meow Portland was great beyond compare, she's caring and reliable. A true pet lover! I have two cats and I needed a pet sitter so I could go on a (way long overdue) vacation for two weeks with as much peace of mind as possible. At our meet and greet, Chelsea asked me lots of details about the cats, including habits, schedules, hiding spots, and favorite activities. In that initial meet, I gave her a key, and before I left on my trip, I gave her the cats' vet info as well. While I was away, she regularly sent text messages with updates that made me feel very secure, and pictures of the cats during those visits. She fed the cats, kept up their litter, but most importantly, kept them company while I was out so they didn't feel as if they were left alone. When I returned, the apartment was in great shape, the pets acted almost as if I never left. I'm not prone to hyperbole or exaggeration, but contacting The Cat's Meow Portland was one of the best decisions I've made in a long, long time, and I wholeheartedly recommend Chelsea as a pet sitter and will tell everyone about this fantastic experience because it is truly hard to find someone who I can really trust to care of my cats like she wonderfully did. Chelsea watched our two 9 month old kitties for 5 days and there are no words how amazing she was. Chelsea is fabulous!! She is very professional, sweet, and of course she took wonderful care of Honey for a week while we were away. She kept in contact with us during the week via email, and even included adorable photos! Our apartment can get warm during the day, so when she stopped by daily she made sure to open the windows so Honey could get some fresh air and some sunbathing in. Honey's daily pumpkin snack ran out while we were away and unfortunately we didn't have a backup can on hand for her to use, so she went out and bought a can. I've relied on various cat-sitters for more than 20 years now, and Chelsea is hands down, no-holds barred, THE ABSOLUTE BEST cat-sitter I've ever encountered. Chelsea is fabulous enough to make me come out of yelp hiding for a split second to sing her praises. I found her in the fall of last year, after much searching and hitting walls trying to find a sitter for our 2 cats, one with medical issues. Chelsea came to my rescue then and many times since, and I will be forever grateful for finding her. It all starts with her incredible communication skills - something that seems hard to find in many industries. Chelsea is amazing! She was very accommodating and responsive about two weeks before my holiday travels (late review, sorry!) Chelsea took great care of my cat. I was really impressed with how organized she was. This was my first time using a pet siting service. Chelsea did an initial visit with me to meet my cat, Cosmo, and get to know his needs. She was super friendly and I really appreciated that she had a checklist of items on an intake sheet. Meeting with Chelsea made me feel immediately at ease with leaving Cosmo. I've since used her twice more and I am only more and more confident in using Chelsea. Cosmo, my cat, even likes her. Chelsea has been our favorite cat sitter by far! She has always been incredibly responsive, responsible, and respectful of our cats and our home. We always come home to happy cats and a house that more or less that looks exactly like how we left it. Chelsea has always been incredibly professional and kind when making arrangements around picking up and dropping off keys, even with our crazy work schedules. We trusted Chelsea so much that we just ended up giving her an extra set of keys that she always kept so that she'd be ready to go whenever we needed cat sitting. Most notably, Chelsea was amazing during one of our longer trips where one of our cats ended up getting sick. This cat was ironically the one that didn't have cancer and didn't need medications, and it would've been very easy to ignore her. However, being a consummate caregiver, Chelsea made sure to check on her and discovered that she was very ill and hiding. Chelsea was very responsive in contacting us, getting our baby to the vet, and then helping to make arrangements to transfer our baby to the cat hospital so that she could get emergency care. If it hadn't been for Chelsea's attentiveness and amazing care, we would not have been able to come home and say good-bye to our baby in her last moments. We will be forever grateful to Chelsea for that, and we will miss her very much. read more

Where do I begin? Chelsea is incredible! I almost don't want to share her! ;) I have asked Chelsea to watch my kitty, Brooks, so many times in the past year I can't even count. Right off the bat, Chelsea started out asking questions and taking notes about his eating habits, his health, his nearest vet, etc. and I was amazed by her professionalism from the start. A few examples for why Chelsea is so wonderful: - I was gone for over two weeks over the holidays and she came in every other day to watch Brooks, play with him, brush him (which he loves), scoop, check food/water and just hang out! I got back and the litter box and his food area (as well as my living room ;)) was cleaner than when I left. The Cat's Meow is the best! My cat is spoiled rotten, and she's got the attitude to match. She requires special care to meet all of her high demands, and she's a huge snob, very selective about who she deems worthy of her presence. But she's a big sweetie once you get past all that...I swear! So of course, when I was leaving town I had to put a lot of thought into choosing someone to care for my special queen of a cat while I was gone. I did a lot of research, and in the end, I heard enough about The Cat's Meow to decide that Chelsea was the one for us. It turned out that Mark lived closer to us and he was more available. The two of them quickly put to rest any fears I might have about Mark's care not being the same as Chelsea's, as Chelsea put us in touch and participated in our conversations about the arrangements. Plus, Mark's a great guy with a big heart, and I could tell that he'd be gentle with my cat and give her the best care possible. And my hunch was totally right. Mark did a wonderful job, was willing to meet all of my cat's special demands, and he even gave her space and dealt with her snobby attitude until she actually let her guard down and warmed up to him. I am totally pathetic when it comes to missing my cat while I'm away, and I felt much better getting regular updates from Mark in my email, as well as photos and text messages the whole time I was away. Mark did a fantastic job taking care of our cat, Volta when we were away on our honeymoon this past August! We would definitely recommend The Cat's Meow. He sent regular updates via email, texted us periodically to let us know how things were going, and sent pictures, too. He looked after our house and everything was great upon our return. I was really glad we decided to go with Cat's Meow and having someone as reliable and caring as Mark looking after our cat, gave us peace of mind, which is really important when you're away from home. Volta is so important to us and we wanted to make sure she was as happy as possible while we were gone. Mark's great communication skills and attention to detail made it a great experience. I also thought our experience dealing the The Cat's Meow as a business was very pleasant at every point, and seems very well-run. When I first contacted Chelsea, she said she was not able to do those dates, but that Mark was available. She had him call me so that we could talk briefly and he came over and did a full walk-through with a questionnaire and took notes. I liked it that I didn't have to spend time writing up directions for him before we left, since he took such careful notes during his walk-through.We were running very short on time after our wedding and leaving for our trip, so small details like that actually ended up being really helpful. He also reminded me about a couple of details that he needed from me before we left, so it was nice to have someone on top of things. If you're questioning whether you should hire a catsitter, I think it's a really good thing to do. Our pets give us so much love in our daily lives, so when it's time to go on vacation, I think it's important to make sure they are well taken care of. And even better to have someone who really loves cats. I can't rate Lindsey highly enough. We recently went out of town for more than a week over the holidays, and asked Lindsey to check in and medicate our cat while we were gone. She came for a free in-home meet-and-greet, and our cat immediately took to her. She took copious notes and emailed us a summary of the fees and her care plan, and included specifics about our cat. (For example, "I'll make sure he gets plenty of play time with his favorite rope toy.") Whenever she'd visit our cat, she'd text us a thorough description of how he was, what they'd done together that day, and how he was eating. From the moment we first reached out to The Cat's Meow, Lindsey's communication with us has been warm and professional. Before we scheduled our first cat sitting, we began with a home visit. Lindsey came to our home to meet our two cats and talk about their care, feeding, and daily routines. She took detailed notes, anticipated all of the questions we had for her, and utterly charmed our two cats (who can sometimes be shy with new people). You can tell when someone in a customer service role is just going through the motions of being polite and attentive. But Lindsey exudes a sincere love for cats that completely erases any trace of worry that we might otherwise feel about going out of town. Lindsey has now taken care of our two cats on several occasions while we've taken both quick trips and extended vacations. When we are away, she sends us funny and sweet updates (with pictures!) about our cats' silly antics and bottomless appetites. She clearly uses every moment of her visit to provide the highest level of care from feeding and litter box cleaning to playtime and affection. When we come home from a trip, our cats are pleased to see us but they don't have that "love starved" neediness that we've seen in the past. Right from the start, Lindsey was fully engaged in understanding all the nuances of each of my three cats' personalities, likes and dislikes and special needs. Her email recap of our initial meeting reflected all of her warmth and attention to detail. Her focus was totally on duplicating, as much as possible, the care I give my kitties on a daily basis. Receiving daily text updates and pics provided a high level of comfort and were filled with anecdotes that told me she was truly in sync with my cats. And my texts were always responded to promptly and with great info. Lindsey has a true gift in bonding with the pets she cares for. My very reclusive and shy boy actually let her pet him. She was very patient in using baby steps to get him to trust her. This is something no other pet sitter has accomplished in five years! My cats range in age from 5 years to 16 years old. Two are indoor and one newly adopted is in transition from outdoor to indoor/outdoor (indoor if I can do it). Lindsey has great success in getting him to come inside for short periods of time to eat. I have been meaning to write a review for quite some time now. We hired Chelsea to cat-sit Thanksgiving week in 2012 and also for a trip last summer. From the moment I met her, I knew I could trust her to take care of Luna while we were away. Just had a good feeling about her. She is always very professional yet friendly, very responsive and sends me texts or email updates with pictures. It's reassuring to know that my furry baby is doing well. I can tell Luna loves when Chelsea visits because she is relaxed and happy when we get home. I feel like she is in good hands and gets more play time than I usually give her! I also appreciate the convenience of being able to use PayPal for payment. I haven't seen Chelsea in person for a while, but that's okay--she's easy to communicate with and I've already booked her for our next trip and will do so for future trips. Chelsea is amazing. On her initial visit she went through a full sheet of information, asking about our cats' eating habits and times, medications, toys and other things I'd never thought of! During our trip she sent long texts with detailed information and photos every day of our kitties. Our male cat, Max, is a little shy around new people but warmed up to Chelsea right away (which is pretty amazing!) She also cleaned up a puddle of water in our basement without us asking. We will definitely ask her to watch our kitties again!! read more

Jen looked after my cat Wally for a combined weeks' time when I went on vacation this summer. Emails from Chelsea and Jen from coordinating the visits to receipts were always prompt and professional. Jen's detailed texts and pictures of Wally conveyed to me her sense of care and assured me that Wally was well attended to.
