One day, my boyfriend and I were coming home and this nice couple was walking the neighborhood passing out flyers for Gourmands and The Cavalier. Today we read into the flyers a bit more and found the Margarita mix special. We ordered it via phone and the gentleman was nice enough to make it strawberry for me and we picked it up. It came with a small bottle of tequila (some GOOD KIND too), a lime and the premade mix along with a cool hat. Amazing service, great products and very close to our house. We for sure will be back! You've won me over, Cavalier. From your cozy interior to your music selection, this is a great bar. This review is about the bar. They have food and pretty good food at that, but the bar is the highlight of the visit. The staff has made an excellent, welcoming environment at Cavalier. You're greeted with smiles all around which is surprisingly rare in East Austin. Most people are nice, but these guys are outwardly engaging. It's fresh and cool. The interior of the place is similar to its predecessor, Dog and Duck, but it's been slightly updated to become more trendy, but not abrasively so. The holiday season really works for them, since they've decked the halls with lights. It's the coziest bar on the east side. They have some great drinks and cool specials (shout-out to $3 pineapple mimosas!) I'm a beer gal myself, so I'm treated to a solid selection of choices anytime I go in. I should have known when we pulled up and the parking lot was empty on a Sunday morning. I have no idea where my girlfriend dug this place up from, but the service and food were horrible. I have a fairly high douche bag tolerance as long as the food makes up for it, but the rubbery fried meat thing was gnarly AF (the waffle was decent, I'll give them that). It took ten minutes to chew through my first bite. To quote my girlfriend: "maybe it's fried ham!" I have no idea how this place has 4 stars. I'm currently debating if I should make myself vomit up the food sitting in my stomach or risk letting it digest and enter my bloodstream. read more

New place on Webberville. Fantastic environment with a delicious menu and great drinks to boot. For sure will be returning to this gem often. FYI food comes out fast and delicious. The burger is great with the cornbread brioche. The deviled eggs are beautifully plated, must try. They even offer healthier options such as roasted acorn squash with barley and a goat cheese . Just like a previous reviewer, we ended up here because everywhere else was too crowded. But it was a happy accident! I love the menu - options ranging from healthy to not-so-healthy, so that my husband and I don't have to argue about tasty vs. good for you. I had the acorn squash with barley and it was delicious! Went there because all of the other places had lines out the door (please stop moving to Austin!!!) and I'm glad we stopped by! Got the Boudin Balls and the Shrimp poboy and they were all incredible. When I come back I'm trying the Shrimp and Grits! I'm sure once word spreads they'll have lines out the door like every other "hidden gem" at least I got to try it before everyone else has! read more

Love this place. It's super chill, they're pup friendly and the food is solid. This is my go-to spot for a chill night in the neighborhood. They have a sweet $.75 wing deal on Wednesday and bogo burgers on Tuesday. Their cocktails are pretty good too (watch out for the Zombie). Also, their happy hour runs 3-7 which is pretty killer for the east side! I would avoid their Jamaican jerk wings (too much cinnamon) but definitely get the buffalo... it's fire. Although the space where The Cavalier is seems to be cursed for businesses, I hope it doesn't apply to these guys! We've been a few times, during HH, brunch, and tiki night and were impressed each time! The have an awesome HH menu, especially for the deal they have on their frozens which pack a punch! But even their normal prices are pretty reasonable and they pour very generous! The food is pretty good too. Their tiki nights are super creative and fun but get really busy, so go early! Neighborhood bar feel with an upscale menu at a reasonable price! We came here on a whim and were not disappointed. Their menu was limited due to Covid-19, but what they had was delicious. We ordered the Carrot Hummus with thin Potato Wedge Chips, the Watermelon and Arugula Salad and their 2 for Burger Special. We went with 1 Cavalier Burger and a Chopped w/Cheese Burger which was similar to a Philly Steak Sandwich. Absolutely everything was fantastic. I got a Painkiller to drink and it too was sooo good. These guys knocked it out the park. I always look forward to trying new east side places, and Cavalier is a space that fits right into the hood.. The atmosphere is perfectly suited to the area, casual and super friendly staff. Love the full bar and creative cocktails, including a beautifully crafted tequila old fashioned. I share the deviled eggs with my companion, but I did not share the shrimp Po' Boy and when asked why I hadn't offered a bite, I replied that I would have charged her for one. My companion had the burger, which she called good. I'm guessing it was better than that, but jealousy over my plate probably played a role in that characterization. I was in town for a seminar with about 40 other out of towners this past Sunday and we "flash mobbed" the Cavalier on what I presume to be a typically sleepy night. Both Michael and Erin were cooler than cucumbers and handled the already drunk mob with grace and professionalism. We have been twice. First was about a week after they opened, and the second a week ago. Super friendly bartenders, cold beer, really great frozen coladas, comfy and good noise level. The food both times amazingly bad. The burger on first visit tasted spoiled, the shrimp Po Boy, mostly bread and iver powered by giant pcs of grilled lemon. The worst by far was the fried chicken. Gross, rubbery, blubbery Frankenstein chicken. Which is sad, because the coating was delicious. :-( read more

Live in the neighborhood, and am very excited for this new concept. Before I say anything else, I will say, I will go back for sure! The good... Menu, both food and drinks, were great. All the food was great...interesting concept. LOVED the drinks menu. Fried chicken was definitely legit...and that's coming from someone that thinks my own fried chicken is the best. Stand out thing we ordered was the chicken and the deviled eggs. Drink menu alone would make me come back. The bad...or the things I wished were different... Clearly the owners made a decision about the walk up to the bar to order idea. It's even printed on the menu. My concession is, it seems part of this decision was about keeping costs down...I can appreciate that. Personally, I don't like it. I wanted something more in this space. I wanted table service. I would be okay with costs ticking up a tad to bring in table service. I hated the self-serve station with plates, napkins and silverware. I wished I would of had water with my meal, and someone would have served us water. I would have ordered a second drink and maybe a third, if I had service. Maybe there is a middle ground? When our food was delivered, maybe that person could offer to start a second round of drinks? All in all, I'm rooting for The Cavalier. I will go back for sure. We were really looking forward to a new casual bar/restaurant opening nearby. We've been to the cavalier three times now, unfortunately we can't rate higher than one star and that's strictly because of the food. If you're only coming for drinks they staff is great and the frozen drinks are delicious. But after three tries the meals are, to be blunt, awful. Burger had an aftertaste almost like the beef had started to turn. The shrimp sandwich had chunks of lemon that ruined the otherwise ok taste. As for the fried chicken, yummy crispy crunchy coating wrapped around rubbery awfulness. I can't conceive of a palate that found that chicken acceptable. read more
