Update: I already…read moreleft a review after our visit last year, but I wanted to update it because I realized I never mentioned what happened afterward. After our experience, I chose to reach out privately by email rather than just leaving a negative review. My goal wasn't to complain I genuinely hoped the feedback would help improve the experience for future families and visitors. Unfortunately, I never received any response or acknowledgment. What disappointed me most wasn't even the original visit it was realizing afterward that there didn't seem to be any interest in hearing customer feedback. A simple reply, acknowledgment, explanation, or even "thank you for taking the time to share this" would have gone a long way. I understand businesses get busy and not every message can result in a full resolution, but being completely ignored after taking the time to provide detailed, respectful feedback reinforced the same feeling we had during our visit: that customers were more of an afterthought than a priority. I still think the space itself has a lot of potential, which is why I reached out privately first. I just wish the customer experience had matched it.

I quickly stepped into TX Art Supply with my sister. They were just on the cusp of closing when my…read moresister wanted to browse around for ideas. I had never been inside the store that I frequently passed while driving. As we walked in, we were immediately greeted by one of the cashiers. I would have thought, she may have been frustrated by our late arrival. Thankfully, not. There are a vast selection of paints, putty, paint brushes, solution to clean brushes, books on how to draw faces, anime characters, and stencils to help create the perfect shape, size, and theme. Seeing the stencils reminded me of kindergarten and elementary school arts and crafts. All kinds of colorful wallpaper art. I think I spotted 10 different kinds of sketch pads for whatever art you wanted to make including custom comic books or for manga. My sister was happily assisted by, "Birthday Boy", Rodney. Him and my sister spoke for 30 minutes about the difference between watercolor, acrylic, and another method of paint. Rodney was giving my sister a lecture that she appreciated. He showed her recommendations on what travel kits to purchase and what he would use. My sister said that she really liked how thorough he was and that he knew what he was talking about. I enjoyed that he was personable and funny. The supplies in the ranges from $1 and up with plenty of brands to choose from. They even have an upstairs section. It's a pretty cool store! My sister plans on visiting again tomorrow to reboot her hobby in art.

2nd visit to try the traditional "tea room" meal as we ordered off the brunch menu last time…read more This time I ordered the Sampler Sandwich Trio: Three tea sandwiches filled with chicken salad, pimento cheese & egg salad, served on fresh baked Hawaiian bread. I was disappointed. The bread was not fresh. The egg and the pimento salads were runny and bland. It's served with chips which is not traditional for a tea room. I had a cup of potato soup which I also found bland. The chicken salad was perfection! Definitely would order that again. Split an order of the chicken spaghetti which was the day's lunch special. It was just cheese and noodles as I didn't see much chicken it. It's was bland. I like more seasoning in my food. This was more along the lines of bland hospital food. There coconut peach iced tea still a fav and I ll continue to order it. The peanut butter pie, while I was glad I tried it, I probably would not order again. Very heavy. Very rich. Very sweet. I really wanted to love this place. I have 3 kids I wanted to enroll in gymnastics here, but after…read moregoing to open gym, I am going to look elsewhere. Here were the problems: 1. $10 for an hour of play is pretty steep. It should be $10 for 1 1/2 or 2 hours. But then they made the kids stop playing and put their shoes on when there was still 5 minutes left to play. This was especially frustrating because the price is already pretty high. 2. They divided the kids up into a baby room and a kid room, and the rooms are completely separate. This made it unnecessarily difficult for those of us with a kid in each age group and limited my ability to interact with my kids in this space. When I asked if I my 3 year old could stay in the kid room if I was there I was no a very stern NO. 3. They kept telling the little kids they could only jump on the trampolines going one direction. Which would make sense if there were other kids waiting to use the equipment or it was a structured play time. But that wasn't the case, and the unhelpful and bossy employees were annoying. 4. My younger child kept falling on the trampoline and when I got on the trampoline to help him and show him how to bounce I was told I wasn't allowed on any of the equipment. So I wasn't allowed to help my child have a safe and enjoyable experience. It was frustrating. 5. My older child came to me at the end frustrated that the employees wouldn't help the kids use the equipment in the larger kid area and that the employees were really bossy. I wasn't in the big section, so I didn't see this first hand, but it was consistent with what I saw in the little kid section. We won't be going back.

My daughter and I always head over to Play on The Strand with our pockets full of quarters. We head straight to the back and hit up the arcade. They've got some pinball machines back there along with a couple of arcade games. We fill their machines up with quarters then check out all the cool toys they have. They have a lot of cool toys in there and my daughter seems to always sucker me into buying her something when we leave. I always enjoy supporting small businesses here in Galveston, and their toys are of good quality. I highly recommend a visit to anyone who visits The Strand.
