I quickly stepped into TX Art Supply with my sister. They were just on the cusp of closing when my sister wanted to browse around for ideas. I had never been inside the store that I frequently passed while driving. As we walked in, we were immediately greeted by one of the cashiers. I would have thought, she may have been frustrated by our late arrival. Thankfully, not. There are a vast selection of paints, putty, paint brushes, solution to clean brushes, books on how to draw faces, anime characters, and stencils to help create the perfect shape, size, and theme. Seeing the stencils reminded me of kindergarten and elementary school arts and crafts. All kinds of colorful wallpaper art. I think I spotted 10 different kinds of sketch pads for whatever art you wanted to make including custom comic books or for manga. My sister was happily assisted by, "Birthday Boy", Rodney. Him and my sister spoke for 30 minutes about the difference between watercolor, acrylic, and another method of paint. Rodney was giving my sister a lecture that she appreciated. He showed her recommendations on what travel kits to purchase and what he would use. My sister said that she really liked how thorough he was and that he knew what he was talking about. I enjoyed that he was personable and funny. The supplies in the ranges from $1 and up with plenty of brands to choose from. They even have an upstairs section. It's a pretty cool store! My sister plans on visiting again tomorrow to reboot her hobby in art. read more

They have everything I want, paint and bushes, a variety of surfaces to paint on as well as items for my scrapbooking and art journaling hobbies. Every ink under the sun seems to be available, as well as a big selection of stencils. The staff is very adept- it seems that everyone is an art practitioner and can help you troubleshoot to make the correct call on new purchases as well as restocks. I love being able to shop in person, so I try this location every time I go to Scrap Shack in Friendswood for my scrapbooking needs. read more

Associates are knowledgeable and helpful! Despite the drive I've continued to come to this location for my art endeavors. Every time I've asked questions about a particular product or asked for suggestions the staff have been helpful and pleasant. I was looking for a particular size of Yupo... they didn't have in stock so they ordered it and had it within 48 hours. Another time a gentleman went through numerous options of their handmade papers so that I could select all the ones I needed (and more because they're so beautiful!) I also enjoy this location because of the art classes available to my son; I found the instructor is really engaging with the children and she had my son create works outside of his comfort zone which boosted his confidence :) read more

This is a big art store, with a huge selection, running from serious quality art supplies up through silly crafts and kid's amusements. Staff have always been helpful to me. Place is clean and well lit. They have good base prices, and frequent sales. I have two grade-school daughters; this means way-to-frequent birthday-party invites. Texas Art Supply is a great place to grab a quick gift - $10-15 spent here buys a lot more interesting gift than it does at the nearby dept stores. read more

I went to the Texas Art Supply Store (Bay Brooke Mall store) in December 20 22 to purchase WaterColors Art supplies for my daughter. It was a gift for Christmas. I had to return all the Watercolors items because she wasn't interested in Watercolor paints . I returned all the Items today with NO PROBLEMS. This place is amazing. Many of the pricier art supply brands are sold here for a MUCH cheaper price than Michael's or Hobby Lobby. In addition, they carry a more specific type of variety, as well as loose/individual pencils, brushes, and other items that are only available in a set at many other stores. There are a few random items that are priced higher than your typical arts and crafts store, but there are very few items that that statement could apply to. Staff is very friendly and willing to assist every customer that walks through the door. Location is quite easy to miss, as it's tucked along side a busy mall parking lot. read more

The employees are too few and far between, it's impossible to find them when you really need them. Or they're busy helping others. A great place to get the art supplies you need. I've had to come here countless times to get supplies for my art classes and usually, I would find them here. This place has a good selection of different art supplies for many different art styles, so you're sure to find what you need here. They are a bit expensive and sometimes there aren't that many people working here to help you out, but once you do find someone, they seem to know their way around the store. If not, the store is small enough to take a look around yourself to see if they have what you're looking for. Every aisle corresponds to a certain art project such as painting or drawing for example. In fact, sometimes its just fun to walk around to see what they have. At least, that's what I did. Definitely give this Texas Art Supply a look see if you're an aspiring artist. Or if you just need to get certain things for an art class. Also, a little sidenote for any painters out there who stretch your own canvas, purchase your stretchers and canvas here. As far as I've seen, this Texas Art Supply has those supplies for a lower price here than say... buying a pre-made canvas from Michael's, Hobby Lobby, or even there in the store. That is, if you already know how to stretch a canvas. If not, I highly recommend you learn because although it is a bit of work, it won't cost you as much. As a retired art teacher and working artist, I can usually find about anything I need for general art projects at TX Art. As a teacher, I liked that I could use my 10% teacher discount card and I did not have to order and pay shipping to out of town suppliers. They cater to beginners to professionals in the art realm. I've got to say this is an amazing art store! WOW! The selection was really expansive. Tons of things to choose from. Everything was really well organized. I wish I painted more, I really had big urges to buy up all the paints! My husband is more the artist and we do live in Austin, but we visit Friendswood quite frequently and we will be making a stop here in future when we're in town as I think this store beats out our local art stores.
