I love this place!! Debbie, the store manager, helped us initially. She was very nice and courteous, and did not pressure us one bit. We finally decided on a recliner and took it home. The chair that was delivered ended up making a weird noise when rocking so we contacted Debbie again and let her know. She immediately offered to swap the chair out within ONE DAY!! This is the kind of service we look for, but rarely get at furniture stores. I commend Debbie for the excellent service and taking great care of us!! Choices are very slim. Prices are maxed out because of nationwide low inventory. Looks about 2/3 empty inside compared to years past. Sort of a, "we're open, but you're going to pay big time" vibe. If you think customers will pay top dollar for floor models, good luck. Waiting months to get a new one if you order and pay in advance? I kind of think this may be the end if they can't stock the store, plus the constantly poor reviews. Will they still be in business when the new chair finally arrives? Nice recliners but beware that there is no support after delivery-even by the delivery staff. I found the salesperson's attitude of unwilling to help a perfect example of uncaring about the customer. I was also shook his lack of knowledge about the product he's selling. Buyer beware. read more

About 10 years ago, my mother wanted to buy me a recliner: after looking in numerous stores that included La-z-boy, I decided on a recliner at The Chair Outlet. It was an oversize rocker recliner with a soft fabric: back then, they didn't have sales reps that helped with correct fit suggestions, as I recall the chair did push my head forward, but I learned to live with it. Per their current day TV ads, they now will help with proper seating/fit of a chair: KUDOS! The chair was great & was something that I found myself sleeping in somewhat often due to a bad back and, unbeknownst to me at the time, early stages of peripheral neuropathy. When we moved south to Nevada, we were unable to take the chair with us after 5years of use & was still in good shape: so I gave it to my son. Upon our recent move back to the NW, he offered the chair back to us when he moved into a smaller apartment, so it has upheld it's usefulness for a decade. Although we declined the chair due to my son having a couple of cats, it upheld it's durability. The cushioning of the seat had also become flattened, but understandable after that amount of time. We are in need of a new chair for hubby & am planning a return to The Chair Outlet for the purchase, as not only was the previous chair comfortable & durable, but also reasonable in price. read more

Decent prices and good selection but lacking in customer service. We bought 3 stools which one broke within 3 months. Called the store was told they had none in stock and they would call me when more came in. 6 weeks later I called and was told the had them but they sold out again. He found some at another store and he would have it at this store within a week and would call me. No call. I called again and was told by the manager that now he would only replace the broken parts, which was the seat and two of the legs, instead of just replacing the chair. This is a copy of a complaint that I sent to Best Furniture about a chair I purchased from the Chair Outlet in Portland: I have not yet heard a response. Hello, I am writing in regard to a recliner, style 9MW87 in Orion. It was purchased from the Chair Outlet, Portland, OR on 7/23/14. This chair was very comfortable when I sat in it in the store. After trying many, I decided to take this chair and since the only one available was the "floor model" I took it. The chair seemed fine for 2-3 days and then started feeling uncomfortable. As I continued to examine it I realized that it was listing to one side and the seat cushion on that side was considerably broken down. The padding seems to have flattened to practically nothing. I am 5'6" and weigh 150 lbs so I don't know why this chair would have listed and caved in so quickly. Maybe it was that way in the store.. when you are sitting in a chair that is mooshed in between many others it is hard to see any defects. I called the store and they told me that the salesperson that sold me the chair wasn't in that day and to call back which I thought was odd. I did call back and got the manager, Debbie, who told me that there was nothing that they could do but if I brought it back they would do what they could to fix it. I returned the chair on Tues, 8/5 and was told that it would be at least 3 weeks before the chair would be ready. I asked if I could exchange it for another one that was in the store since it was "new" but the answer was that it was not possible since I purchased the chair I was returning that was undeniably defective. (The fabric was also torn where it snaps on to the back part of the chair). The reason I am so upset about this is that I am 70 yrs old and have to rely on other people to handle heavy things for me. I have also have had 3 back surgeries and a broken femur/hip in the last 5 years and have constant pain and need a comfortable recliner. Other than staying in bed it is my only option to sit down and watch TV, read, etc. I am very disillusioned with the store and the chair. I really can't afford to go out and buy another chair somewhere and then what do I do with the newly purchased one that who knows when I will get it back and arrange for someone to help me get it home. (I live alone). To add to that I was talked into having the chair sprayed with a protectant (which smelled awful for 3 days). I then read in the brochure on the chair that "Best's Cover Suppliers recommend NO type of protective coating be applied to any fabric or other cover material used on any BEST HOME FURNISHINGS furniture." I thought that I felt some compensation was due but there was some fast talk about the way it was worded and voiding the warranty, etc. The warranty does state that I should take up this matter with the store which I did as explained above but the warranty does give me the option of returning the chair for credit which the store did not honor. I feel that I should be able to return this chair for credit because of the inconvenience of having to wait a month for the chair to be "repaired". I will be sending a copy of this email to the Chair Outlet. Hopefully I will get some results because at this point I am pretty upset about this whole debacle. I called the store before writing this and they still haven't done anything to start the repair process so the chair has been sitting in their storage warehouse now for 5 days. I appreciate anything you can do to remedy this situation. I feel like the lady in the tire commercial that brings back her tire and throws it through their glass storefront window. No, I can't do that but I am extremely frustrated about how this is being handled. BTW, when the manager, Debbie, saw the chair she said "OH, I see what you mean". Trust me I am not being picky. This whole incident sucks big time and I want my money back. Thank you in advance for anything you can do to practice good customer relations with your customers (that's me). I am 9 months pregnant and my husband and I decided that our current rocker wasn't going to cut it for the late night feedings in our future. We went to the typical big box stores and didn't see anything we liked. One of the sales reps recommended that on our tighter timeline that we try Chair Outlet. We walked in on a Saturday afternoon and were eventually greeted by a woman. She was nice until we expressed our budget (and admitted to her that it may be a stretch as it was on the lower end). From that point forward she seemed entirely disinterested in servicing us! We understood it was a long shot but to just sort of trail off and then walk away is not how you get or keep a long term customer. We searched around on our own and then immediately left with a bad taste in our mouth. We found our dream recliner/rocker at Fred Meyer the very next day and for $30 under our max budget! Oh and the sales people were FANTASTIC! We will not return to this location unless we are absolutely desperate as our experience was so uncomfortable! read more

The Chair outlet in Colchester, has went above & beyond to help, The person who dealt with my little girls chair was exceptional, & I would highly recommend them, they were extremely attentive to our needs & honestly it's difficult to believe that anyone would speak ill of them, My own experience with them has certainly lead me to ensure there are positive comments out there, on how we were treated throughout, The shipping times were excellent, they are an online company so it's email correspondence, & that's fine with me if that means your paying less, & they are way out in front on their pricing it isn't difficult to see that just compare prices for the same furniture& you'll notice I'm right on this, they are offering the same designer styled chairs at far better prices than their competitors. I'd like to thank them for what they did for my little girl, & I hope that the kindness they have shown us brings them great success, they deserve it. This review is really only for the sales assistant, James. He normally only works at the Tigard store but fills in on Wednesdays. He was extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the chairs from the material to the manufacturers to the warranty. He was not pushy at all. We ended up leaving without a purchase but asked for his card and some information on two chairs my mom was looking at. On his business card, he wrote a $60 discount if we came back to the store for the chair. Some of the chairs are American made from Best in Indiana. I've heard mixed reviews on their durability. The one chair we were looking at had been on the floor for only 2 days and already had stitching coming undone. James totally rocked but the rest of the store - meh. read more

We purchased a wooden rocking chair almost a year ago from the Chair Outlet. Almost immediately after we bought it, the wooden plugs hiding the screws began to fall out as of this morning only one out of 6 were still in place. All the screws have gradually loosened, the front spindle connecting the two sides of the lower portion came out completely after a month or so and as of this morning the entire chair almost fell apart. Today I took the chair apart in an effort to fix it and (being at least a tyro woodworker) I was shocked at how poorly it was assembled. I had to glue several parts and replace one screw with 3 1/2 inch grabber screw to keep the left front leg on. I indicated the price range for the Chair Outlet was "moderate." We paid less than $300 for the chair, but given the quality of this chair it should have been much less. In my opinion, as it turned out, this chair was probably only worth the cost of a similar volume of firewood. I would say that this store is probably overpriced- if the rest of their goods are of a similar quality. I'm not sure what their return policy is. The chair was actually a gift from my wife's parents so we didn't have the receipt handy (and we were really busy with a new child) so we didn't take the chair back when the problems first started. It could be that they would have taken it back and apologized, but after a year we feel that we've waited a little too long and we're going to just chalk it up as a loss and give the chair away. After a lot of glue and an extra screw the chair seems at least stable enough to sit in! It would take a lot more to repair my opinion of this business though. #### Several months have passed since I wrote the above review. A couple of days ago I was contacted by the Chair Outlet's manager. He asked me to call him, so I did- with the intention of passing on whatever came of the conversation. We have already "regifted" the chair, so taking it back is not longer an option for us, but Chris (the manager) assured me that had we attempted to bring the chair back, we would have been taken care of and that they take care of problems like this with chairs that are within the warranty period and even when they're not! In any case, we should have at least TRIED to take it back! So what we got was an assurance- and that's really all we could expect at this stage, I suppose. What would have happened had we not given the chair away? It's hard to say. Would we have gotten our money back? An in-store credit? Who knows. I'm looking forward to hearing what other people have experienced at the Chair Outlet- I'm sure a lot of people have had experiences that were much better than the one I had. read more

Spent over $2000 on several chairs for the office. It took nearly 8 weeks to get the "special order" chairs and they arrived scuffed and scratched. Manager was incredibly rude to our staff, we ended up sending the chairs back and were told they would no longer do business with us. The same evening we found the EXACT SAME chairs on Amazon with Prime shipping. We will be receiving the chairs in 3 days, guaranteed quality, with a 5 year warranty and the total cost is over $500 less than we originally paid this business. read more

Loved this family owned and operated business. I've never seen so many chairs for every room in the house in one place! The even had bean bags! The staff was very knowledgeable and interested in helping me find the right chair rather than just sell me something. It's also nice to go buy chairs and not have to put them together! All of their chairs are already assembled and ready to go! The had sooo many chairs, I didn't go for barstools, but will go back for some, they had more bar stools than anywhere I have ever seen, and so many varieties! read more

We purchased a recliner and within 3 weeks it leaned to one side. The sales lady said we had to expect some "wear and tear". But after 3 weeks? We were charged an $80 restocking fee (never mentioned on receipt) even though we returned the chair and unloaded it. They will most likely sell the chair again and we are out the $80. When I made a follow up phone call to see if we could negotiate a price on a set of barstools I had seen yesterday, the sales lady spoke to me rudely and hung up on me. Even though the barstools would have been perfect and I may have been willing to spend full price, I refuse to step into their showroom now. Great selection! I was able to find the perfect chair for our nursery. The chair is comfortable, supportive and made in the USA. We've had it 4 months and love it. I think it will last a lifetime. Should have looked at the Yelp rating prior to going to the store. Went and picked out the chair i wanted. Negotiated a price and in the payment process she asked me for my phone number. Since i was taking the floor model with me, I said I was not going to give my cell phone number. They said it was for warranty, etc.. and final the sales lady copped the 13 year old girl attitude and said whatever. I turned around and started walking away saying I think we are done here. A month ago I was looking for a special chair for my living room and decided to give the Chair Outlet a look. We went to both stores in Portland and Tigard, Oregon and I was not impressed. The first thing I want to mention is that each store had the same problem, bad lighting or low lighting. I could barely see to walk around and since I was looking for a dark blue chair it was really hard to see them. I even had the salesperson take one chair and put it in another place in the store so I could see it better and it was only barely lighter there. I really felt like I was walking into a cave when we went into the stores. Really more lighting would not cost that much and it would really do both stores a lot of good. The other thing is the sales people seem spread out thin and more interested in staying at their desk and answering or talking on the phone than helping people in the store. They were not high pressure and that was nice but if I had questions I had to wait and wait until the salesperson was done with a phone call before talking to me. I did find a great chair however after waiting and waiting and then deciding to buy I couldn't get the sales person to come to me so my Hubby and I walked out. Stear clear unless you really can just go in and buy a chair. read more
