This is a blast from the past. I went here 10 years ago and it was a super cool place. But when I was in Marylebone in July, it was never open entire week I was there. No signs were up about the status of the place. Great location and easy access to the metro / Tube though! If this is closed than whatever is there next will be great. read more

I've lived somewhat near for a couple of months now and a lot of local pubs are hot and cold, depending on the night. The Chapel, on the other hand, is seemingly always buzzing, despite being tucked away from any main street or nabe. This could be due to a great (somewhat hidden) patio for those who like to sit outside. Or it might be a kitchen that cranks out an ever-changing menu. Ladies seem to like a wide variety of wine. And the indoor sections are cozy, with a farmhouse feel, but also spacious in some parts. I'm keen to return and try the food. And hopefully I'll still be living nearby when the weather gets warmer as it seems to be a nice spot for outdoor bevs. As for now I'll settle with it being a nice spot for indoor bevs. read more

The Chapel is conveniently located just a few minute's walk from work, so we often visit on a Wednesday or Thursday evening. The large outdoor area is fantastic when the weather is good, and the umbrellas and heaters mean it's also usable in the colder months. The indoor space is large (although usually busy - it's worth booking for a table on a Wednesday or Thursday) and nicely decorated, although a deep clean wouldn't go amiss. The bar serves a decent variety of drinks at reasonable prices, and a range of bar snacks and meals. The antipasti board is usually decent although it does vary in quality from time to time. For some reason they've stopped serving bowls of chips, which seems like a strange decision as they were popular with our group at least! We will definitely continue to frequent The Chapel, but I wouldn't travel across London to visit. NB: The Chapel does suffer from thieves, and a friend of mine had his laptop bag stolen from the garden (even though our group was standing right next to it, and the garden is separated from the street by a high hedge). The Chapel's staff can't be blamed for this - they do periodically come round and kindly warn patrons of the issue - but make sure you keep your bags zipped and close. read more

I started my night here on Wednesday, having specifically planned to start somewhere close to Edgware Road station. Even though I was late (my bad), Jules bagged us a spot outside in the sun, which at almost 7pm - you wouldn't find in Soho that's for sure. It's stupidly close to the tube, and is a lovely place to spend an early evening - particularly when it's hot even to sit outside. NB. The Chapel also has two of the biggest umbrellas I've EVER SEEN outside... A beer and vodka/soda is £7, so it's reasonably priced. Almost everyone was eating, and the food looked mighty tasty. The platters (of either meat, camembert or a selection of dips) were coming out of the kitchen every five minutes of so, and at £7.50 each, seemed to be very popular. We just had some olives, which were really tasty. Though Edgware is a tad random, I spent a good few hours here and had a lot of fun. We were surrounded by a huge group of work colleagues, so it was a little noisy, but were able to skip over to another table later on. I can totally recommend this place, especially if you're in the area. As for travelling to it specifically, we found a fair few other places nearby to move on to, but for a weekend - somewhere more central might be better. read more

We had a quiet dinner here and it was really good, nice hearty food, not many veggie options but that didn't matter to us. We had the special (mushroom and chicken fettuccine) and the burger. The chips were amazing. Staff were super friendly. On a Friday evening it's more of a post work drinks place than a quiet meal place; it can get pretty busy. read more

Okay, so I might not spend quite as much time here if I didn't live 50 metres down the road, however I'd spend time at this strangely schizophrenic bar even if I didn't! Very much a bar of two faces, it is a crazily busy, standing room only, buzzing, packed hothouse every weekday evening and turns into a sedate, relaxed, jazzy, chill pad during the weekends. The outside space is very nice, screened off from the street, big tables under bigger umbrellas, with nice light/heater lamps on timer switches making for some amusingly awkward hand touching moments with strangers as you both blindly fumble for the switch. The food is average if a little overpriced, and the bar snacks are pretty damn poor... Come on people I just want a bag of goddam crisps, not some overpriced Japanese rice cracker with a sweet chilli dip or whatnot... So why the 4 stars I hear you ask... Well, despite it's many minor flaws, it's generally a fun place and the majority of the bar staff (despite a decided inability to pour a decent Guinness) are eye candy of the highest order, and the one's that aren't CAN pull a decent pint of Guinness! read more

If you are in the area, do not miss grabbing dinner and a pint at The Chapel. In my 3 weeks staying in the area, I must have eaten here a half-dozen times. The food is truly incredible (by any international standard), and is practically "out of this world" by English standards (sorry, UK friends). The hand written chalk board lists all the specials. These change frequently. If you see a "bone in marrow meat pie" do not hesitate -- it was the food highlight of my entire trip. Drink options are excellent -- several standard cask ales on draft. Definitely a winner! This is not your typical London pub. The food is great, much better than the usual pub fare. The menu varies daily, depending upon what's fresh and available. The tables are well-spaced so you can carry on a conversation without shouting over the tables next to you. I am, perhaps, slightly biased. I work around the corner from the Chapel, making it an easy stroll of an evening. Even if I'd happened upon the place, though, I'd have it noted down in the Moleskine for a return visit. The Chapel is in a tricky place: stuck between the rather nasty upper end of the Edgware Road and the sterile backstreets of Marylebone. Its Greek owner keeps it ticking along: there's always something drinkable on the wine list if you don't fancy the usual lager, and the food is always well put-together, if pricey for pub grub. You're looking at the best part of £15 for a steak, but it'll be a substantial slice of decent beef, cooked the way you've asked for it. I happen to get more than a tad grumpy when very rare is interpreted as medium rare, but I've never had less than a bleeding slab of tasty cow from these chaps. It's busy on Thursday and Friday evenings as it's popular with the office crowd around there, but nice and quiet at the weekends. If you, like me, enjoy few things more than a nice quiet pub, you could do far worse than this one on a Saturday afternoon. And if you don't mind listening to pinstripes bray then it's a sociable enough option on a weeknight. read more

Nice beers, nice beer garden, and big fat screen on which to watch the rugby. This place gets crowded at times, but if you're able to get there when it's quiet, grab the really comfy sofa. Definitely somewhere I like to go for a quiet drink or to watch sport, this is a friendly, relaxed place well worth a visit. Lots of wood and leather, but not an old man's pub. read more

This is my local pub and the best spot to spend some time with friends on a weekday after work. This is also the place to go for a first drink before embarking on a night out, or the first meal of the day as part of a hangover cure. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and the place is usually busy enough without causing agoraphobia or preventing you from having a proper conversation. My friends and I are smokers, so we usually tend to go for the outdoor area regardless of the weather (they have very strong heaters!), which is nicely enclosed by plants that isolate you from the buzz coming from the street. The location is perfect too, as it's down the road from Edgware Road tube station, and less than a 5 minute walk from Marylebone Station. Overall, the staff is very friendly, the food is great (try the burger) and the drinks are reasonably priced. If you're a local and you haven't tried this pub then do yourself a favour and give it a shot. Even if you're not and you happen to be looking for drinks in some of the not-so-touristy London areas, this might be the place for you. Forgot to mention that the music they play is pretty decent too, and it's one of the few pubs I've been to where the music is actually audible outside! read more

I strolled to The Chapel for dinner because I was alone and didn't have to book a table. Ordered the wild boar and apple sausages with mashed and cabbage. Excellent - was a little nervous when I saw it was medium-rare, but turned out to be especially delicious. Did not know they started dinner orders at 7 so had to wait a half-hour, but that was okay. I enjoy watching people. The handwriting on the chalk board menu was hard to read. Lady bartender seemed slightly irked with me because I am hearing-impaired and it's not obvious, but with a lot of background noise (the place IS noisy), I'm almost entirely deaf. Good looking staff. Great pub with a unique atmosphere! The space is large so perfect for groups and the garden area is great for when it's warmer outside. Their food is low-key some of the best I have had in London and definitely worth the extra investment compared to other London pub food. Their burgers are apparently incredible. I would give it 0 stars if I could. Service people were rude and the customer service was terrible. When a paying customer doesn't like the food maybe you should blatantly tell them they are wrong and there is nothing wrong with the food. Needless to say never going there again. read more
