We ate at the Chart Room on August 13th, 2020. The room was extremely forgettable and flavorless, but our sever was the worst I have ever had. I believe her name was Brandon. She made our dining experience just horrible. It took us 30 minutes to get our beverages. She forgot to bring our appetizer. She never checked to see how we were enjoying our food. We finally asked the other server for things that were forgotten and she immediately helped us. When our waitress brought our bill not only had she charged us for our appetizer, but she had charged us for two of them. That's $35 extra dollars added to our bill. If this restaurant wants to make it with their tasteless food then at least need to at least have competent help. Don't waste your time and money on this one. read more

It's all about the location which is exceptional. My review is about the food which is very average. Located at the end of the spit, there are great views from the restaurant. It's fun to spend time looking out over the beautiful water. Our server was very kind and friendly but clearly he wasn't quite comfortable with his job. He was here as a seasonal worker, arriving from another country, and he was working very hard to do a good job but his inexperience showed. Not an important matter to us. I ordered the clam chowder, which was generous but the clam flavor doesn't come through. It was alright but not exceptional. The texture was thick but not heavy. It was bland, not fishy, but tasting of not much of anything. If you're worried about a strong flavor, this won't be a problem with this soup.The pieces of clams were small (my friend said they were chopped) and I didn't find any potato in the soup. I was happy to have ordered the soup, looking for a budget meal. I'd read the reviews and talked to a person exiting the restaurant who was not at all happy with her meal. I wasn't prepared to spend a lot of money only to be disappointed. One of us ordered a green salad that looked fresh, made with dark greens. She was very happy with her conventional style salad. My other friend felt that her salad with goat cheese and smoked salmon, although tasty, was too skimpy on the goat cheese and salmon. The others in my party were not impressed with their meals but didn't have any specific complaints. I think most people will likely find their meal satisfactory if not memorable or impressive. In summary: nice atmosphere, great views, average food, good value, not too expensive. They are trying and if you don't expect too much, you should be pretty happy. read more

We had a great dinner. Ordered the rockfish and an elk burger. The burger was good but that blackened rockfish was excellent. I had never tried rockfish before and I am now a huge fan. The beer and wine selection was good. We had the best table in the house, with a great view of the shore and mountains. We got to watch people catching fish and the bald eagles landing on the shore. So sad to see this place suffer in the quality of food this year. Have been back 3 times this summer as loyal customers only to find that the chefs are not meeting the mark by a long shot. The waitresses are not friendly, quick to exit your table and slow to return. With higher priced menu service AND quality of meals should match. Not so much though. This was a beautiful and relaxing way to end a long day of traveling. We tried the oysters on the half shell, which were $30 for a half dozen. They were small but very well presented and tasted great. We did traditional cosmopolitans on a whim and they were good (drink prices were very reasonable for the size, quality, and location). For entrees one of us had the steak, which was huge and tasty, and the other one had the halibut which was the star. We never would have ordered the halibut but in our brief time waiting we heard several people raving about it. They were right: it was light and flaky and tasted wonderful. Overall we enjoyed this dining experience very much and are strongly tempted to return again tonight! read more

In Homer for two days, went to three meals at our once-favorite restaurant. Not anymore. Meal 1. We requested an outdoor table. The hostess said, come over here, seating us in the hot sunshine in the bar. We were told to wait and that the outdoor seating was being prepared and that "it takes an effort to get ready." No one was out there and it was already 30 minutes into lunch service time. Twenty minutes later, a group was seated out there. The very nice bartender Lisa offered to take our order while we waited. Now, forty minutes later, we were being served our meal, in the hot sunny bar. "Oh, did you want to sit outside?" The hostess knew, the waitress knew, and the bartender knew. Meal 2: "Halibut Illiamna" (supposedly stuffed with king crab -- one bite had what I'd call only a smear of crab). Halibut was dry, overcooked and salty. Husband's elk meatloaf was also dry, overcooked, and salty. Both overpriced at $35 and $25. We were seated outdoors this time, but as the sun receded as we waited a half hour for our meals, we asked about moving to the empty table in the sun since I had no sweater. This was not accommodated with the reason being a party was being seated there already. Near the end of our meal, finally a single person was seated there -- apparently the waitress's boyfriend or close relative per the intimate hugs. So, we sat there cold, finishing our dry meals. Meal 3: Stood waiting for the oblivious, chatty hostess who finally appeared after the manager prompted her out after asking us if we had been helped, this, after 7+ minutes of standing there waiting. She apparently had no clue that everyone, anywhere in the entire dining room could hear her and other staff loudly chatting on and on behind the partition. We were there for breakfast in this once-nice restaurant. First thing, our waitress at this supposed high-quality establishment rushed over and with no greetings, announced, "We're out of fruit. We only have one of ...whatever she quickly said.... and out of ...something else. You want water?" The hostess brought water and the waitress brought waters, confused that we already had some. Since there was no fruit, I asked for soy milk to moisten my oatmeal and was told, "that will have an additional charge. " In the photo, check out husband's "potatoes" with the Basic Breakfast. Old grease? Fried for too long? Both? Someone owns a lovely property in a spectacular location. We have been patrons at this restaurant and resort for years. Something is going wrong. The host on the evening before, wore his mask only 'sometimes', randomly taking it on and off. Sadly, someone needed to inform him that there was a big wet spot on one nostril side of his mask. Not attractive in a restaurant host. They're trying to play "Restaurant" with untrained players. read more

The Halibut itself was tasty but it was smothered in a crab-artichoke mix (which was stated on the menu) but the mixture was about 3 cups worth and full of mayonaise! I wonder why the reviews are so low for this spot. The only issue I have here is the price. But its at the end of the spit, and the views are magnificent! I think the food here is as good as any place we have in Anchorage! There is a waitress here that works the bar area that has been super nice and remembers my kids preferences though we only come down 4 to 5 times a year. Steaks are great. Love the Cioppinno. Burgers are some of the best in Alaska though pricey. If you aren't super hungry, their mac and cheese was awesome as well. I highly recommend!!!! read more

At the end of the Spit. Been there for years. Nice facility even though it looks like the original facility was a prefab. Dinner was OK. Appetizer, clam chowder; and dessert, chocolate lava cake a la mode were better than the entrees, seafood paella and grilled halibut. Bread was nothing special. Did not appear to be artisan or locally baked. Seemed a bit industrial. Wouldn't take much to get it up to a 4th star. They should go for it and have the food match the locale. read more

Last visit in 2017 with out of state visitors was dismal at best. Slow food, cold food, long waits for call backs. Fast forward to 8/16/21 4:45 pm:...walk in. "Please wait to be seated" signage. Outside deck open with people sitting out in the sun. Bar open with several Tables available. Resturant open with only 3 tables occupied. Options looking good. Greeter: hi, can I help you? Us: yes, can we sit outside and order food? Greeter: no Us: can we sit at the table in the bar then? Greeter: no, no food service in the bar. Us: okay, can we have the table over there then? Greeter: we are only accepting reservations, do you have a reservation? Us: no Greeter: no reservation no dining, we have a limited staff. Us: okay, that would have been good information to post on the door or on the wait to be seated signage. So even though there are literally only 6 people Eating right mow, we can't be seated? Greeter: no Me: I'm done with this place, never again will I step foot in this place or bring another visitor here. This is not the exception to service or attitudes, it is the norm. We literally drove to 6 dinning establishments over the past 3 days and have not found one open for dinner. Even McDonalds was closed to dining, had to sit in a 20 Car line or use the app and wait 30 mins for the cold burger. Homer is off my list...even Whittier has better attitudes and service and they most definitely appreciate the business. read more

Not impressed. We are staying at Land's End and despite the mediocre reviews, we were going to give The Chart Room a try. The hostess asked if we needed help and we asked for a table for two. However, we were told they were booked the rest of the night but we could only see one full table among the sea of EMPTY tables. They must only be capable of serving one table at a time. read more

We were in Hoimer for the winter king salmon tourny. We ate at the Chart room for breakfast and dinner. First of all the view is awesome from the restuarant. I had a omlet with avacado, tomatoes, mushrooms, and cheese. Very tasty and well prepared. I opted for fruit and rye toast. Both were good. We had dinner there and I had the berry kale salad and added scallops. Very good salad. We also had K bay oysters. Yum! The only part that would have been better is if they had not run out of creme brulle! Prices were cheaper than I thought they would be so that is also a plus. Service was just right. read more

I hadn't been to Homer in 15 years. We had lunch at The Chart Room. Boy, the quality and portion size has really gone down hill since our last visit. We had the halibut and chips. Our waiter brought our meal out and said I hope this isn't too dark for you. It was BURNT. He had it redone. Waitress, Sharlene was cordial and knowledgeable and displayed grace and friendliness. However, she never came back to check on food quality. My wife had shrimp Fish and Chips. I had the Seafood Alfredo. When the Seafood Alfredo came out it was already dry on the top, getting further in the sauce was minimal and bland. In addition the salmon and halibut was dry, dry, dry, the two shrimp were almost over cooked. If you have the Alfredo and like it with sauce let the server know. The over all meal was quite average and given the dry Alfredo it barely received 3 stars. Sharlene appeared to be quite experienced and should not have even brought the dry Alfredo to the table. Attention to detail as well as customer friendliness are equally important. She had one of those qualities. read more

I had a pretty bad experience here. Tried calling for an hour to order take out, no one answered. Walked down to order. The old lady at reception refused to take the order stating that it was after 9:30 when it clearly wasn't yet. We argued about it for 5 minutes before I stormed out looking at my phone still only saying 9:27. I had plenty of time to order. She was very disrespectful and found it prudent to throw away all customer service and argue with me. Next morning my friends still wanted to go for breakfast, and that was a somewhat better experience.... our waitress was very sweet. Still, because of that old lady and her horrible disrespect and lack of customer service, I will never come to the establishment again will suggest anyone go somewhere else. Perfectly fine - the breakfast menu is pretty solid - sounds strange, but the oatmeal is fantastic - it is topped w fresh apples, craisins, and pecans - the veggie scramble is tasty and apparently the sausage and biscuits are..?light? As if that's possible for a dish smothered in sausage gravy. Dinner is pretty good - the portobello salad was nice - spinach w a marinated shroom on top - but wayyyy over dressed - the crab dip got good reviews and the clams in white white were nice. Bread is soft and slightly sour - like if sourdough and challah had a love child. They have a few other salad options, all of which can be ordered as starters or entrees - I think they also have elk or moose carpaccio and a few other things I can't remember. The king crab legs ($65) were huge and amazingly sweet/tender, but a pain to eat, as expected - veggies accompanying them were underwhelming. Salmon w pesto was lovely - well cooked and flavorful. Asiago/parm crusted steak got good reviews and was quite large - come hungry and w no regrets. Overall, it's a seafood heavy menu, but we were traveling w a vegan who managed to eat well too. Fish is around $35, steak is probably more. Service is friendly but super slow. One of our tables was fully done eating before the other table had even gotten apps - this isn't acceptable. We ate as a group of 24, so I'm not sure how much a party of 3-4 would be - I'm guessing around $150-180? One of the few nicer places in Homer if you want more than fish and chips/ bar food. One of the worst meals and experiences I have had in a long time. We decided to eat at the resort restaurant since were already staying there and we got into Homer than expected. When the waitress is asked openly by the hostess if she would like a table and the waitress shrugs and says "not really, but okay" the tone of the meal starts off poorly. The entire staff had extremely forced smiles and made comments about how they were understaffed. The food was almost uneatable. My husband had the Paella with fresh seafood and I had the panko razor oysters. The Paella was over cooked and the seafood was bland and unimpressive. Razor oysters sound delicious but the way they were prepared made them tough and rubbery. I would only recommend this establishment for afternoon drinks and a relaxing view of the ocean. It's clean, comfortable and cozy. My advise, eat somewhere else. read more

My husband and I both enjoyed a wonderful dinner with excellent service from Kevin. The scallops appetizer with a sambuca sauce was incredibly yummy - the flavor ensured that we had to make sure every drop of the sauce was gone before we could let the plate go, and the scallops were perfectly cooked. My Halibut Iliamna with thick crab-Parmesan topping was delicious. My husband ordered the special, a sablefish entree. He shared a few bites with me, and it was very nicely prepared and definitely worth ordering the next time. We might have enjoyed dessert, but it being Mother's Day, all the deserts were gone by the time we finished dinner - probably a sign of tasty desserts, but we'll have to wait to find out. The view from our table was spectacular - the beach, the water, the seagulls, bald eagles, sea otters and snow-covered mountains are something I could sit and watch all day. Don't judge the restaurant from the outside. Just step inside and you'll be more than pleased with the style, the food, the view and the service. read more

Not sure why this place doesn't have better reviews, but I guess going back and looking at them, most of the poor reviews are from awhile ago. We stopped in here a few days ago while on our trip to Alaska and had a party of 9. It took a minute for us to get seated, but aside from that everything was wonderful. Our server was great, smiling and attentive the entire time. I ordered the basil crusted halibut and OH MY GOD IT WAS SO GOOD. Best fish I've ever had!!! Someone at our table ordered the seafood pasta and said the sauce was really oily, so maybe stick with the plates of seafood. I can't speak for everyone else at my table, only for myself and the food I ordered and the service, and it deserves 5 stars from me. Absolutely beautiful view of the end of the homer spit as well! Our calamari appetizer we ordered was also delicious. Coming back next Alaska trip forsure! read more

My husband ordered soup, salad and bread (he chose clam chowder) - I asked if it was "clammy" and he said, "When I got done there were clams in my teeth!" The chowder was so good (he shared) and I commented on the wonderful herbal tones to the broth. We couldn't decide if it was basil or tarragon. He had on his salad the honey mustard vinaigrette, which he enjoyed. I ordered the chipotle braised short rib torta. The menu lists the ingredients (in addition to the short ribs) as: house-made bolillos roll, house-made refried back bean spread, pickled red onion, tomatoes, white cheddar, lettuce, roasted jalapeño. The roll was homemade and delicious, but too big for the overall sandwich. Long story short, there was not enough meat in the sandwich for the pricing. I loved the roasted jalapeno, great touch. The red onion was sparse, and the tomatoes were meh. I did appreciate the few bites of delicious, savory rib meat that I got, and the black bean spread was subtly spiced and yummy, but there was a lot more of the beans than the meat. Also, sorry, but I did not see ANY cheese on that sandwich. And believe me, I ripped it apart. I gave 4 stars because lately, this place has delivered good, safe service and good food, especially compared to how it was before this new chef. read more

This was literally our first good dining experience in Alaska... it's like everywhere you go your options are fish, sandwich, or pizza. At best an iceberg salad here or there. We get it that you can't grow much here and the produce is limited but there's no excuse for so much shitty restaurants... what's a tourist to eat!! Anyways... this place came through big time when we were dying for a tasty and decently healthy meal. Mac and cheese was fantastic and the berry/bacon salad was sublime! My son had one of the best meals of his life with the sea food alfredo (see his review below) and his baby Mama thoroughly enjoyed her salmon salad and kale chips... she was literally begging for kale.
