My one notable personality trait is I love cheese. I exclaimed this upon entering The Cheese Shop, and the staff met my enthusiasm and immediately began conversing with me about this shared interest. If this wasn't a match made in heaven and the best customer service experience, I don't know what is. I love cheese so this was a must stop spot for me. Overall, they were wonderful to chat with. I had a few specific pairings that I was looking to make and they were a great help with that. Plus he sold me on a cheese that I was intrigued by but had never had before. He told me it would taste like lemon cheesecake and when I tried it, it really did! It's the Wensleydale cheese. It was freaking delicious. I'd love to tell y'all the names of the other cheeses but they were all new types to me. I don't think this Cheese Shop is related to Williamsburg's Cheese Shop despite having the same name. I was hopeful for a second before walking in and seeing how petite the store was. Situated on Washington Street Mall, it does indeed offer cheese plus an assortment of items related to cheese, such as dips and sauces. I ordered a container of the mustard horseradish dip, which I then brought back with me to Virginia the next day. It traveled well and was tasty. I wish I had purchased two. The girl working the day I was there wasn't particularly friendly and I'm unsure if she said a word to me as I checked out. Alas, this is why I don't live in New Jersey anymore. read more

During the laps I made in the Washington St Mall during my time in Cape May, one of the stores that stood out to me the most was The Cheese Shop. Being a big fan of cheese, I was instantly intrigued - especially in light of the fact that I saw people leaving with sandwiches. I made a mental note to check it out before I headed back to NY, and thought it would be a great place to explore my last night in CM. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cheese Shop looks small on the outside, but there's actually a decent amount of space on the inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Upon entry they have some coolers to the right with a few pre-packaged cheeses, spreads, and to-go prepared foods. The left wall is lined with cheese complements like crackers and jams. The main focal point, however, the ordering counter which has a large selection of cheeses - this is also where you can order sandwich specials. By the time I arrived, they had stopped serving sandwiches for the day - however there was a hunk of blue cheese that was speaking to me so I went with that; I also grabbed a bag of crackers because carbs. The cheese was good, it was a high quality grade which I appreciated - I saved it for later and paired it with the crackers and some wine mmm yes. Service was good - it wasn't too crowded when I went which was nice; I was taken care of promptly. Overall, I had a good experience at Cheese Shop - they have a good selection and it's a welcome change to the usual beachy shops one finds in CM and the greater Jersey Shore. read more

Great little cheese shop in the heart of Cape May! While there I picked up a few different things - some biscotti from a local olive oil company, a black truffle compound butter, small container of drunken peach preserves, and a sun-dried tomato cheese spread. They also had a nice display of premade charcuterie boards and cheese samplers, pastas, and a wide variety of crackers and meats. My teenager was delighted by their music choice (it was great). Will definitely stop back in again next year with more of a plan in mind - would be great for gifts or to make your own yummy beach board. read more

This store offers some some cheese and salami samples. The lady who works there is ver sweet and welcoming. A lot of cheese choices including chocolate cheese. You can grab some crackers, pasta, pasta sauce, varieties of condiments, and snacks. At the front counter you can find some dessert: cannoli, limoncello cake, carrot cake, and chocolate cake. The limoncello and chocolate cake are delicious. You can also buy of very cute prepared cheese and olive appetizers. If you need some sandwich, they have them at the front counter as well Some Italian and sandwich bread is available at the front of the store. I recommend visiting this store when you are strolling around the mall. read more

my boyfriend and I stopped in on a horrible, rainy, windy cold day. The woman in the shop was so kind to us - she offered us many samples including some of her favorites in the store. Very good place to find speciality cheeses. Prices aren't too bad, cheese, especially speciality cheeses are expensive. Would definitely recommend coming here and trying samples. You can sample anything. read more

Spent $50 on 3-12 inch Italian specialty sandwiches, all of which were advertised on a white board with a description of each. After getting them home and opening them up, they were a sloppy mess that consisted of meat, cheese, wilted lettuce and a hefty smear of a creamy white mayo looking spread. Who puts that on an Italian sandwich and not to mention, doesn't put that in the description. Some people have a real aversion to mayonnaise. Being Italian and knowing what true Italian specialty stores normally provide, this was a joke. Never again. Wish I had read the reviews before buying sandwiches to take to the beach. Like Denise, I was grossed out by the mayonnaise on the caprese sandwich - WTF? Everything else about the sandwich was fine - ripe tomatoes, good quality bread - but the icky goopy spread ruined it. Please provide an accurate description to future purchasers. Had a great experience the first time I went in! I was impressed by the selection and decor of the store. I was able to get 3 cheeses and a sausage for around $36. The cheese was amazing and I went back a few days later to get more. The second visit was not as nice. The staff seemed curt with their reply's and did not understand what I was asking for. I had gotten a pre cut Brie for around 6$ the last time I went, and when I asked for Brie this time they ended up talking me into buying a 20$ Brie and saying it was all they had. The 20$ Brie was not good and I realized after I got home that the sell by date was over a month ago! Would recommend, but be aware of upsales and packaging dates! read more
