    Cheese heaven!!!

Small shop. Adorable decor & Nick nacks for wine and cheese fans. UNBELIEVABLE cheese selection. Incredibly knowledgable staff. They let you try the cheese on a coordinating cracker before buying. I absolutely love cheese and this place totally hit the spot! $20 minimum for credit card.

And while they don't have the largest selection of hard cheeses, for a s small shop on a vacation island like LBI, this place rocks it.

This place is a nightmare. It's a very cute shop, but they should not be providing food preparation…read moreservices. Where do I begin? I went into the store and ordered a large cheeseboard for Thanksgiving, a month in advance, with specific instruction to not include nuts given I have a severe nut allergy. They said no problem, just a simple omission. I spoke to them again the morning of by calling to confirm the pick-up time. All seemed well. When I arrived to pick it up, it was very clear that they had lost my box. They were scrambling around and avoiding me, blaming the manager. Finally, they fished something out of the back with no name tag or label, which I assume was not something made specifically for me, but an alternative to band-aid the situation. Knowing this, I asked them to confirm it had no nuts, and it was clear the store associate hadn't even remembered. She opened the box and (surprise!) full of nuts. But wait, it gets worse... The store associate proceeded to throw $10 at me, told me to go buy a coffee, and she would re-make one for me. Very weird and unprofessional, but I thanked her nonetheless and sat down and waited. A few minutes later, another customer who had been waiting by the counter came up to me concerned, and told me that the store associate was not redoing my box and was simply taking the nuts off the top. She told me her son has a peanut allergy and she understands how severe they are, and was worried about cross-contamination. I could not believe it. I spoke to the store associate again who, flustered, understood and then proceeded to re-do the box AGAIN, albeit without cleaning down the area or wearing gloves. Reminder - there was just nuts everywhere. My final box was then slapped together in 5 minutes, sloppily tied together with twine, and not even put back into a box for easy transport. No apology from a manager, hardly any apology from the store associates Needless to say, I will not be risking the ER on Thanksgiving by eating this overpriced cheeseboard. I went to Fourchette because based on the curation of the store, I expected an elevated and tastefully-arranged board with gourmet food and French flair. Instead, I got a $250 board that was haphazardly thrown together in 5-10 minutes with no adherence to deadly food allergies and some of the poorest customer service I've ever experienced. Two customers in the store were kinder to me and more concerned about my food allergies than the store itself. Don't waste your money on their cheeseboards. There are other cheeseboard services in the area with better equipped kitchens, kinder staff, and attention to detail.

Breakfast at the grill counter is second to none. Joe and Amy are talented and trained chefs; they are also hilarious. Please have the soup ( any kind) or chicken pot pie home made and beautiful. Tonight we had chicken Francois (restaurant quality) eggplant Parmesan and a German feast. Amy lent us large catering bowls, chopped our onions and peppers for a German dinner, and made us laugh the entire time we shopped. Joe is a beautiful person and knows his way around a huge breakfast menu. Oh and it's a fully stocked food store... did I mention that. The heart of Harvey Cedars!

We…read morestopped in for a quick breakfast, but what should have been a simple order ended up taking nearly an hour. All I ordered was a pork roll, egg, and cheese on a Kaiser roll with a hash brown patty. I understand they were very busy, but the wait still felt excessive for such a basic breakfast sandwich. I was also surprised to find out that after 11:00 a.m. they stop serving pancakes and omelets, even though breakfast sandwiches are still available. It would have been nice if the full breakfast menu was offered a little longer. The biggest issue for me, however, was food handling. I watched employees place dirty register receipts directly on top of prepared sandwiches, including an egg and cheese that sat with the receipt on it for several minutes. Thermal receipts aren't something I want touching my food, and it completely turned me off. I also noticed several employees with long hair and facial hair working without hairnets or beard nets, which didn't inspire confidence in the kitchen's sanitation practices. Neptune Market has always been a family favorite because the food is tasty and reasonably priced, so it's disappointing to leave this review. I hope they can improve their food handling practices and kitchen hygiene because I'd love to see them get back to the standards that kept us coming back for so many years.
