From an ambience perspective, this place is super cute. Think rustic wood, quaint space, outdoor picnic tables, and friendly staff. The market section itself is great, a fair amount of selections, and all seem to be pretty fresh. The bakery section displayed a number of pastries that looked really good (but I didn't try). However, the coffee missed the mark for me. I got an iced americano and it was pretty bitter/had a burnt flavor. For the past year I was so excited to try their drinks last year the line was out the door so I came this year on Monday waited outside and then was rushed inside with no instructions you have to grab your breakfast sandwich's first before ordering coffee or else you will need to wait in the long line again even though there was a register right infront of the market side the man in charge of the line was rushing and was extremely rude telling me to hurry up in the line and move up. I really love this little market on Long Beach Island for what it has to offer. It's super cute, nestled right as you come onto the island, and has a cozy coffee shop with lots of homemade pastries (the homemade Pop-Tarts and cinnamon buns are a must-try!). They also have a small grocery section with organic and higher-end items, fresh salads made in-house, a deli, and even a grill. I came here this morning and ordered a cheesesteak with fries. The portion of fries was huge--honestly enough to feed a family of four. I was glad I had someone to share with, but keep that in mind if you order. The cheesesteak itself was just okay. The bread was good, but overall it lacked flavor. Personally, I wouldn't come back here for a cheesesteak, especially since there's another spot on the island that does them really well for half the price. I also grabbed a cold-pressed juice from the fridge. None of the drinks are marked with prices, so I didn't find out until the register that it was $7. A bit of sticker shock considering you could find something similar at a grocery store for about half that. That said, I'd absolutely come back for their coffee and pastries. Almost every time I attempt going here, the line is out the door, but for a good reason! This market has everything. My sister and I stopped by before leaving the Island. Any place with the nerve to sell sandwiches on rock-hard, stale bread is deserving of one star. At its best, the local is a convenient option in ship bottom that is open in the off-season. Beyond that, this is a money grab with little integrity. Notice how few items have prices. Bring them to the counter and find out that you are spending two times as much as you would elsewhere. The items that are priced, however, are more in line with prices elsewhere. Seems kind of scammy but, as the folks here are aware, they are pretty much the only game in town for most of the year. read more

The outside of this place is very welcoming and charming for those that want to savor the morning cool breeze off the ocean. The staff is very bubbly and friendly and ready to answer all of your questions. I personally thought their offering of whole coffee beans and other choice merchandise made this place all the more appealing. I made sure to grab myself a long sleeve shirt as a souvenir which had wonderful feel and comfort. I decided to get for the beach their smoked mozzarella, pesto and roasted peppers sandwich, their turkey coleslaw thousand island dressing sandwich, and sesame cream, cheese bagel. Went in for a breakfast sandwich and coffee. I ordered one sandwich on a bagel the staff at the deli counter were very nice. However i was charged for 2 sandwiches making the total $32 for a cappuccino, egg and cheese on a bagel, a tea and a chocolate chip cookie. The staff was annoyed and the original cashier didn't apologize or try to compensate for the mistake. They ended up refunding my card a whopping $9. Won't be coming back. read more

The vibes are definitely costal beachy and cute to see. I was very disappointed in the latte I got, unfortunately. It was very watered down and just overall was not what I was expecting. The strawberry pop-tart I will say was very good and worth the hype. All the other pastries unfortunately not. I got a blueberry scone that had no flavor and a cinnamon that just tasted blah. I was really teetering on 3 or 4 stars here but I think the overall quality of everything was a 3. The Local is a super cute fun spot for a nice lunch or breakfast but it also has a whole market inside. They have a deli with a nice selection of sandwiches, a ton of pre made things all ready to grab, and a huge section of spices and dressings. I got two sandwiches, the chipotle turkey and the French ham. The chipotle turkey was great, packed with fresh ingredients and a great amount of meat. The French ham I truly wanted to love but the bread was so stale on it, it wasn't great. I also snagged a breakfast burrito which was truly just OK, nothing to write home about. I also wanted to get some coffee so I got a black iced and decided to get one of their refreshers. They have a ton of options which is really nice but the drink itself fell short. The desert pear was wayy too sweet. Really couldn't even drink it, it went down the drain. Next was the baked goods. Yummm, they have a great selection. The Italian rainbow crumb was just something I had to get and it was good, not great but enough to satisfy a sweet tooth. The cake pop could've been skipped - it was nothing special. The chocolate croissant however - to die for. So flaky and perfect, extra chocolatey and delectably crunchy. If nothing else - stop in for a croissant. They have a ton of Instagram worthy lattes and fun options but as other reviews mentioned, everything is on the sweeter side. I stopped in on my walk during a weekend stay for a wedding for a coffee and was amazed by the spread of goodies .... The day we checked out we had some time to kill so we stopped in to get a little snack and coffee. My husband got a bacon egg and cheese sandwich and he liked it . I got one of the quiches off of the pastry spread... it was just placed cold in the bag I asked if it could be heated and was told no. So I had to eat it cold .... Specialty lattes are super sweet but a necessity. Also love the regular cold brew and have to get a coffee/crumb cake piece every time I come.
