Awesome little home in the wall! We found it, no problem, but apparently it's not so easy to locate. Came in on a Saturday morning, late breakfast. Quoted 45 minute wait time, seated in less than 30. Cinnamon roll appetizer was good; fluffy, warm and not too dry. Stuffed French toast was pretty good, could have used a bit more "stuffing". Chicken and waffle was great. Loved that they used tenders, good portions, hot and fresh. The chicken fried steak + points for homemade gravy (- cause it was too thick and not enough), plenty of hash browns though and a decent portion overall. It could have been less potato and more (thinner) gravy though. Good, hot coffee in a huge mug. Bright friendly service. Definitely will return. read more

We have been actively trying to try Chef's Hut. The reviews appear good, and the menu was appealing. We tried to go last weekend, to find an hour wait time ahead of us. Understandable, as it's a Sunday, and the location is very small. Ultimately we decided to go somewhere with a shorter wait time. My husband and I tried again today, Sunday. He called ahead to be told they won't add to the waitlist over the phone and there were 9 families already waiting. Again, understandable, so we placed an online order for pick up instead with a quoted wait time of 20-25 minutes. I walk in to pick up our order, and first thing I notice is there is literally no one waiting to be seated, and an empty table in the middle of the restaurant. Unless all 9 families decided they wanted to eat elsewhere, my husband was blatantly lied to on the phone. I let the gentleman at the register know I'm there for my pick up order, he glances at what appears to be the only to go order waiting, and says "they'll be right with you" then walks away. The woman standing behind him turns and asks me for my name, I repeat it, she also looks at the bagged order, and says "just one moment" and turns to continue talking to the cook behind the counter. A third lady walks by and asks what the name on my order is, and for the third time I tell them. She looks at the bag on the counter, at which point the first lady picks up the bag and hands it to me. All 3 of them had to ask my name and look at the bag for it to be handed to me? At least I have delicious food to look forward to. I drive the 3 minutes home and begin unboxing our orders. My french toast may as well have been bread it was so underdone, and the batter was so undermixed that one triangle had plain fried egg white covering it. My bacon was overdone, and the stuffed hashbrowns likely are tasty fresh, but they were a soggy mess in the short time before I got home. Poor service, mediocre at best food. What a disappointment for somewhere I've been looking forward to trying. read more

It has been years since I last visited the Chef's Hut. Fun cafe hidden in an industrial/office park off Cole Road. Ambiance and folks are great and welcoming. Food is above average but not great. We had a blueberry pancake, eggs Benedict and Breakfast sandwich. All good but not great. Hash browns were so so. Not sure how they are cooked but something in the oil taste is so so for me. The Chef's Hut is such a wonderful hole-in-the-wall! It's tucked away from the main street and in a business plaza. If I didn't park close by, I wouldn't have seen it right away. I came here after a workout (haha, I know) to support my local family business. There's plenty of parking outside so you won't have to fight for parking in the early morning. The inside was like a time machine as if time stopped still and we were back in the 60s/70s. I was so blown away at how small the diner was, how friendly the staff were, and how quiet it was in The Chef's Hut despite the entire diner being packed. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with Eggs for $12.99. It came with a side dish and I decided to upgrade it to French toast for an extra $1. Best decision ever in my food choices today!!! It was definitely an American comfort breakfast food and I am so glad I got to eat it. I would highly recommend trying it out. I think the only thing I would request is extra sauce. If you do want to find a unique place to try, I would highly suggest coming here. There are a lot of locals who come here and they do tend to have a quieter atmosphere for breakfast/brunch at The Chef's Hut so please be as respectful as you can and use your indoor voices, haha. We were fortunate to get a table outside so we didn't have to wait an hour for breakfast. I had the cheesy grits with bacon, simple and delicious. Located in the Franklin Business Park (164 S. Cole Rd.), The Chef's Hut is one of Boise's best kept secrets. It is an old fashion diner that has been around since 1974. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 7 AM to 2 PM, they are best known for their breakfasts. The Chef's Hut is also known for their Cinnamon Rolls. These photos are from a weekday visit around 1:15 PM. They had just taken their second batch of cinnamon rolls out of the oven. You can order trays of them for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'm a big fan of their lunches. My go to is usually the Patty Melt with fries ($9.99). If I'm eating there, I get it with fresh cut fries, but when I ordered to go, I was encouraged to get their regular fries or beer battered onion ring. I went with onion rings and a side of Fry sauce. Everything was excellent! I got a Cinnamon Roll $2.99) to go too, which I had for breakfast the next morning. It was excellent! I only wish it had raisins in it. These photos are from a visit on 8/18/21. One of the things that I love about this place is that it makes you feel like you've stepped back into time. There's nothing fancy about it, but it feels like someplace you always known. It's a kind of place where the cook will make Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes for your children. It's the only local place I know that has Spam on the menu. They make many items from scratch. The owner is a big animal lover, who has Corgis. During warm weather, there is a dog friendly patio outside where you can dine with your four-legged family members. Quintessential hole in the wall... have never had bad food or service here.. always a smile & even a pretty friendly crowd! Even when it's packed..pretty fun service. It's been a long while since we've been here but still good & fun. Today the Bounding Hound Omelet...a bit of spinach, mushrooms & ham sauteed with garlic...yum! The Chef's Hut is undoubtedly one of Boise's most reliable restaurants. It's a favorite among locals. I constantly see it being recommended along with raving reviews on Facebook food pages. After three years of drooling over other's pictures I decided it was my turn to witness the deliciousness of this special, local establishment. My husband and I started our meal with a classic cup o' joe. He chowed down on the Veggie Spanish Omelet. Talk about LOADED. This beat came stuffed with green chilies, tomato, onion, bell pepper, pepper Jack cheese, salsa and sour cream, served with hash downs and toast ($10.49). I stole a couple bites and enjoyed how fresh the vegetables were. The eggs were very buttery-flavored and fluffy. The hash browns were also very buttery and cooked to crispiness perfection. 20/10 amazing freaking omelet. I pigged out with the brilliantly-named Eye Opener ($9.49). This dish had all my favorite breakfast essentials. One biscuit topped with hot, homemade sausage gravy, two eggs any style and choice of ham, bacon or sausage. You can add hash browns for an extra $3.49 but you might wanna think twice because the dish was so big itself. For real, those were some big ass biscuits. And seriously, such a generous amount of gravy smothered over them. Also generous was the 4 pieces of high-quality, juicy bacon! I don't think either of us said a word our entire meal. We were both lost in the tastiness. Man, my mouth still waters thinking about that creamy gravy and buttery eggs. NOM NOM NOM!!! The location is rather different. The Chef's Hut is tucked away in an old business complex. It's hard to know it's there. The interior is decorated classic farmhouse kitchen style, providing a very comforting, homey ambiance. Food is excellent. The Benedict was perfect. The gingerbread French toast was yummy. They also have coconut French toast on the menu. I think that this is the only restaurant that I have ever been to that has Spam on the menu. I don't eat Spam, but it was a surprise to see that. The coffee is also really good. Inside out: This place is in kind of a strange location but there is ample parking. Outside there's a cute area to see with picnic tables, inside is decorated with a lot of unique and I'm using items and signs. This isn't an incredibly large space and we did have to wait about 20 minutes to get a table and there is no place to sit while you're waiting if it's cold outside. The service: despite having to wait for a seat, the service was friendly and fast, they informed us approximately how long it would take, they told us what was going on in the kitchen to give us a heads up they had their back up cook that he was a little slower but the quality of food was still just as good. Our waitress kept our coffee for which is impressive because I drink a ton of coffee. The food: The food was delicious I had the coconut French toast and I highly recommend it! My husband had the chicken fried chicken and he seems to very much enjoy it. The portions are large, we both had another meal out of our meal. The prices here are absolutely fantastic! Probably one of the best in Boise for how much you get and the quality of food. We were seated right away and ordered quickly. The dining room is pretty small, so it may not be great for large groups, but it was perfect for our group of three people. My intention was to eat at another restaurant for my last meal but the place I wanted to go to was closed so I looked at other places nearby. I ended up choosing The Chef's Hut and I'm happy with my decision. The customer service here was excellent! My waitress Kyrsta was very enthusiastic and passionate about her job. Always checking on her customers and kept a smile on her face. I tipped her more than I normally tip. Now time for the actual meal itself. I ordered the mushroom swiss burger and I enjoyed every bite of it. I wasn't asked how I wanted my burger cooked which is alright because of the fact that I felt like it was cooked perfectly. The bun also had the soft goodness and the mushrooms and Swiss cheese helped my burger taste delicious. The fries also tasted like they were freshly cut and none of that pre-frozen stuff, they were the real deal! I'm not a local but during my visit to Boise, this might have been my favorite meal. If I ever do come to Boise again, I would be more than happy to return to Chef's Hut. read more

Went for the first time and it was good. A VERY small place but has a good looking menu. While we were there 3 different people ordered a breakfast burrito and it was HUUUGE! And all 3 people finished it; so I mean it must be good right? Husband and I shared the chicken fried chicken and it was good but was a little tough on an end and a little bland. We also shared a blueberry pancake that was pretty good. Our daughter got a kids meal with a chocolate chip pancake, eggs and we paid .99$ more to get the sausage link. It was all pretty good but as an adult I needed more chocolate chips ;). Service was good for the most part. We always seemed to be the last ones to get coffee and it was always the end of the pot so we got a little and then had to wait for more which wasn't quick. I also had to wait a while to get someone's attention for ketchup and then had to ask 2 different people for the ketchup.
