Came here with my son after church on Sunday and honestly we can't say enough good things about it. The place itself is cute, not super big, but old school diner vibes, and it even has a counter you can sit at. The service was amazing from the time we walked in the door- we were seated right away, our server was so sweet and attentive. She made great recommendations since it was our first time in, and made sure that we enjoyed everything. The food came out quickly and was fresh, hot and everything tasted great. Honestly though, the pancakes are a must if you go. Hands down some of the best pancakes we have ever had. We tried the cinnamon roll, which was okay, but not near as good as the pancakes- my son got the country fried steak, which had a generous portion and he really enjoyed it, and I got the breakfast burrito, which was delicious and big (I took half home). If you are nearby, definitely check them out. They have a big menu. Including lunch, and the price point is amazing. Went in today with my mother around 1:30 and 2:30pm. We waited for out server for our drinks and we waited again for our server to take our order. We waited for so long I had to look over my shoulder just to see the wait staff socailize about themselves. We got up and left. I spent my to eat down the street. It's a matter of perspective when visiting Covey's...this is a neighborhood place where people know each other and it's more like visiting a friend's house than a restaurant. As long as you keep this perspective, you'll love Covey's! The service, decor and food presentation is like visiting your friend's or family's house as well - nothing has been updated in a while (Christmas wrapping was still up in late march) and service is slow paced and has the essence of "I'll be there when I get there". But this is a family run business and it's obvious when everyone that works there seems to gel well with each other and it provides a nice feeling of camaraderie. The place was half full when we arrived and were instructed to sit a table. Menus came a little while after, server came out a little while after that. Like I said, slow paced. Ordered the chicken sandwich (comes with lettuce, tomatoes and pickles), added cheese, and fries as a side. Hubby ordered the 2 pancakes, 2 scrambled eggs and 2 sausage patties breakfast. Food came out not too long after. My sandwich was really good! The bun was soft and fresh, veggies were crisp and the chicken was perfectly cooked; chicken was incredibly tender and the batter was crunchy without being too hard. The only downside was that the cheese was cold and not melty. The fries appeared to be fresh cut, homemade fries (which was appreciated) and regardless of pretty good flavor, were undercooked and soggy instead of crispy. You get a lot of them with your meal. The fry sauce was just as unimpressive as the fries. Hubby loved his pancakes; soft and fluffy with crispy butter edges. Eggs and sausage were at perfect temperature and tasted great. Great family owned little dinner. Delicious delicious burgers. We've been waiting till the construction made it easier to access, well the wait is over!! I would like to preface this by saying that the cafe as well as the food is outstanding and i have not found a better place in the Caldwell area than Coveys in the last 10+ years. However, there is a waitress who has long curly dark hair who's name i believe is Casey and she is the meanest person I have ever witnessed as a waitress. She made me and my dining experience very uncomfortable. She was extremely rude and disrespectful to another young waitress and even was openly disrespecting the owner of the cafe in front of other patrons as well as myself. Again, the food and the cafe are both outstanding however they have lost a customer and I will not return anytime she is working. Such a shame. read more

Went in there tonight when we saw they were now open for dinner. Had a great conversation with the owner of the café. My husband's burger was awesome.. and I had "corn ribs" which were also super tasty! As far as the critiques saying that it's slow.. yeah, that's what happens when food is actually cooked from scratch. It's not a fast food restaurant. If you don't have time to sit and enjoy your company, and the food that is being made for you, go somewhere else. Yes, it's an old building and definitely a dive.. but the food really is good. Go in with an open mind and you'll be just fine. My one critique, the fries are super salty. The people who work here are extremely nice; so I almost feel guilty leaving an honest review of the ambiance and food, but I don't want anyone to be surprised by how terrible it is. The entire restaurant was filled with cooking smoke. And our food was awful. I ordered the spanish omelet, no cheese with sourdough toast. My toast was forgotten about, and there was an enormous amount of cheese on my "no cheese" omelet. The omelet tasted like pure grease mixed with charcoal. My husband, who ordered the breakfast burrito, said that the food tasted like they need to clean their grill. I couldn't agree more with this statement. read more

I will start with I do not write reviews. The food was so bad that I decided I needed to write one. I guess you can't get a Hamburger and fries early before lunch time. The Hamburger wasn't that bad after I took off the brown Iceberg lettuce. The fries were very dark brown in color but not really cooked. They were limp, cold and greasy. They were not that busy so they should have been able to cook fries and a Hamburger correctly. Very sad place and food. I wish them luck, they are going to need it. Gross. The food is very poor. Sausage patty was swimming in grease and tasted horrible. Eggs were not cooked as ordered. The new owners need to spend some money on the place. There is exposed light fixtures. The cabinet for the coffee and soda dispenser looks like it is going to collapse any day. I won't go back until I see some major changes. Took the family here as I love hometown style diners. It wasn't very busy. My omlette was good. The French toast had much to bee desired and was over cooked and charred. They use a cheap imitation syrup which was nasty. Hashbrowns were ok but a bit overcooked as well. The service was also lack luster. Didn't bring enough silverware, I had to ask multiple times to get my coffee refilled. There aren't alot of options for breakfast around here but this will be the last on my list read more

I have dined at Covey Cafe dozens of times. I have always had a delicious, satisfying experience, accompanied by friendly servers and prompt service. I recently brought my out-of-town family in for breakfast, and the entire staff happily took care of us! Owner and cook Dave even came out to say hello. I'm writing this review today because some feel empowered by sharing negativity. I read the condescending comments of some sourpusses and even wonder if we went to the same cafe. Before they whipped out their phones, did they speak to Dave, or did they want to place a mar on the team's hard work? I, for one, will continue to come back. Dirty, slow, and bad service. We walked in and it was very warm. Pretty sure there was no air conditioning or air circulation. We placed our order. We had lots of time pass to see the place is extremely run down and dirty. It's sad because I bet this diner was great in its heyday. The drink stand cabinets looked like they were going to collapse. The light in their hot chocolate machine was flickering like something from a horror movie. Finally, after waiting for a little more than an hour, the waitress came to say they didn't have the ingredients for the turkey panini. They made us wait an hour to be told that. first off! walking into the care it was super cute and very homey feeling. we were greeted with the best customer service really down to earth people. secondly the food was really good we ordered the breakfiat burrito and biscuits and gravy and the dever omelet and fries. it was all really good and all had great flavor. and lastly our favorite part was definitely the red bull infusion that they offer. over all if your looking for a diner with a hometown feel and great customer service that's VERY WELCOMING! This place is definitely a hole in the wall, highway diner. We saw this place on the Idaho Foodi feed and thought it might be worth checking out. The service is on point and they are very friendly. Prices are reasonable. Pancake or toast? Chose yet Pancake every time it was exceptional. The bacon is very good as well. I liked the chicken fried steak and hash brows, but it may not be for everyone. I like a good pepperd gravy; my wife doesn't. I will order it again. I am posting this review not to be mean but to perhaps help the owners make some changes that really need to be made to be successful. 1. Before opening a business please do the grunt work first, the flooring, painting, replacing the ceiling, new window covering, sprucing up the counter stools cleaning the napkin dispensers and removing all the cluttering papers from the walls, first appearances are detrimental to an establishment serving food. 2. Once the doors are open for business the food and service should be a priority, go easy on the grease and oil, my goodness if you want folks to come back, give them something to come back for. The server was sweet, though a little distracted by the television. I love to find and go to small businesses because I know how hard it is to run a small business, But the fundamentals of running a business is to appeal to the vast majority of the people that will patronize it, bring their family and friends and recommend it to others.
