I am writing today to strongly discourage my friends and neighbors here from taking their children to Dr. Jenny and The Children's Tooth Spa. My 4 year old daughter and 2 year old son were patients of Dr. Jenny. The office is clean and modern, and my wife and I were happy to support a local business that was well suited towards the young parents of Fishtown & Northern Liberties. Last summer my daughter was diagnosed by Dr. Jenny with cavities. My daughter & wife trusted Dr. Jenny and were ensured that Dr. Jenny would personally handle the 3 treatments that would be needed to rectify the problem. However, after the first procedure, because The Children's Tooth Spa is rapidly expanding and Dr. Jenny was distracted, a new dentist/hygienist was used for the 2nd and 3rd treatments, upsetting my daughter and my wife. But most egregiously, the third treatment involved inserting a solid metal silver crown into my daughter's mouth that neither me nor my wife was ever made aware would be so visible in her beautiful smile. When I first found out about this I was, I think justifiably, furious. It should have been made clear to us that the metal crown was going to be so visible. I have since come to learn that these metal crowns are pretty common in children's dentistry, and my daughter's smile is still ever beautiful, and so I have calmed down a bit. But it should have been made abundantly clear to us that the crown was going to be visible, and there should have been consent from both parents beforehand. I subsequently called the Children's Tooth Spa and left a voicemail. When Dr. Jenny called me back we had a 45 minute conversation over which Dr. Jenny was extremely defensive and exhibited really bizarre delusions of grandeur. Even still, after our call Dr. Jenny did call us back to further explain and offer potential resolutions. This was followed by a snarky delusional email a few weeks later accusing me of being "abusive" towards Dr. Jenny & her staff, a bizarre claim since I had only called her office looking to follow up from my voicemail and Dr. Jenny had called me back twice, even after our long form conversation. I am not sure why Dr. Jenny would call me back if she had felt that her or her staff had been disrespected. I think, bottom line, any medical practice, especially one that takes care of little kids, that would let the relationship between doctor, patient, and the patient's loved ones break down so catastrophically should not be in practice. The Children's ToothSpa was much more interested in expansion than taking care of my kids. We have since switched to Cobblestone Kids and have had a much more pleasant & normal experience. read more

I had my two children going to The Children's Tooth Spa for a little over a year. Like most dentist offices when you first enroll, you have to fill out a packet and provide demographics as well as insurance. The packet had to be filled out in office by paper. A tad bit out dated but cool. However, the next time I came back six months later, they needed me to fill out the paper again because they lost it. It doesn't end there, when I went back six months again they needed me to fill out the demographics again. That's when my frustration grew because how are they mishandling important documents. My daughter needed surgery for crowns on her back teeth and they needed me to fill out the paperwork because the surgery was being done elsewhere by Dr. Jenny. I filled out the paperwork and called to make the appointment. I was told that I would get a phone call 24 hours before the appointment day to receive a time for the surgery. The day before the appointment I called them because I never received a time for my daughter to come in for surgery, turns Dr. Jenny and her staff forgot to send the paper to the hospital. I was livid. I already requested off of work to prepare for my daughter's surgery and took all the necessary steps needed. I called Dr. Jenny's office and the whole staff is giving me the runaround to the point where I drove up to the office to talk with them in person. Thankfully, they were able to squeeze my daughter in to receive the surgery. I decided that after the surgery, they would never see us again and they haven't. The office is nice and clean for the most part. There isn't much sitting space. You can arrive at 8 AM for your appointment and you won't be seen until 8:30. I'm not sure why it takes so long. Outside of the nice clean new office look, there isn't much to like about this place. It appears clarity is needed. For clarity, my daughter's surgery took place on October 31, 2024 at the surgery center on Allegheny & tulip. Prior to the surgery, my children attended the children's tooth spa for a year, and received regular check ups and X-rays. Each time we came in the office we were given a clipboard and a pen to fill out insurance info, address, and demographics. We filled this out by paper EACH TIME. We were never asked if our information had changed. When I asked why did we need to continuously fill out the same paperwork over and over, it had been stated that the paperwork was lost or never inserted in the system. We had long wait times despite being the first family to arrive. On our first visit we were bargained to leave a positive review on google in an exchange for free toothpaste. This business is classless. I see that the doctor is dedicated to responding to each review. Put more time into the quality of your business. Thanks! read more

We love Dr Jenny! First, importantly, everything they do is covered by our insurance and they're great about checking ahead of time. The whole experience is amazing for children and while our toddler doesn't love the actual exam, she loves everything else and it's a great way to form positive associations with the dentist. The waiting area has toys and crayons, along with coffee and water. The bathroom is set up for kids with a toilet stool, changing station (with diapers and wipes in case you forgot!), and a stool by the sink for littles to be able to reach. The exam area is pleasant with a view of 2nd street and TVs - lots of distractions for littles. Dr Jenny is super gentle and great about talking through any issues or concerns, no matter how big or small. I also really appreciate that I feel guided and not guilted as a parent! read more

We love seeing Dr. Jenny! She's so sweet and positive every time we visit, and both my kids have had good experiences there. They had their first dental visit at her practice, and she helped to keep them calm through the entire appointment (not an easy feat for a 1 and 2 year old!). I also love that she gives kids' a small toy after each appointment! The wait time is minimal and the waiting area is calming and inviting for both adults and kids. She has a couple toys for the kids and coffee/tea/water for adults. It was also fun seeing them decorate the area for the holidays :) Dr. Jenny is very involved in the NoLibs community. We have been coming here for years now and have been very pleased with our care by not only Dr. Jenny but all the staff!!!

I brought my daughter here for a second opinion.  We were patients at another practice and recently found out that she had three cavities, with one that was on the cusp of possibly needing a root canal and silver crown.  The practice we were at did not allow parents in the room while dental work was being completed, so we decided to come to Children's Tooth Spa to both get a second opinion on the cavities as well as to be able to be in the room with our daughter while the dental work was being completed. We met with Dr. Jenny to discuss treatment and she told us that the larger cavity might not require a root canal and silver crown based on the xrays, which was aligned with what our prior dentist had also said.  Dr. Jenny said she could begin drilling to see how it looked and would be able to let us know if we were able to avoid the root canal after she drilled into the tooth.  This sounded reasonable so we made an appointment to begin treatment. We ended up being pushed to do the cavities in three appointments instead of two, which I largely think is so that they can bill you more.  With the charges for the nitrous oxide, we ended up paying $540 for the first cavity and $515 for the second cavity (for the third cavity I complained about the expense and we ended up paying $230 for that one).  As a point of comparison, my copay is $50 when I've had to get a filling (without nitrous oxide).  We're on the same insurance, so I can only assume that we were price gauged for the nitrous oxide.   Both of the small cavities Dr. Jenny filled were poorly done.  The fillings were done so tightly that we are no longer able to get floss between our daughter's teeth - nor can the dentist.  Additionally, three months after the fillings were done, one filling has popped out.  I'm furious that this has happened after spending so much money, but grateful that I can now have a competent dentist redo the work properly.   For her final cavity, which was the most severe of the three, we arrived at our appointment and were taken into the treatment room.  A new dentist we've never met before comes into the room and tells us that they're going to be doing the root canal and silver cap.  First, I have no idea who this person was.  We had never met them previously, and had not had any communication from Dr. Jenny or the office that someone else was going to be doing the work.  Second, this was the tooth where Dr. Jenny set up a plan of treatment with us where we were expecting to have the drilling happen and then receive a recommendation from Dr. Jenny about what was needed - either just a filling or a root canal with silver cap.  I was very upset and insisted that Dr. Jenny do the work, which she did.  I expressed my frustration with having another dentist be assigned to our appointment when we were specifically expecting Dr. Jenny based on our prior conversations.  I also expressed my frustration that this other dentist wanted to do the root canal and silver cap immediately, which was not what we discussed or were expecting.    Dr. Jenny completed the work and did a filling instead of a root canal and silver cap.  After the work was done she took an xray and came out to the waiting room to tell us that she wasn't happy with the result because there was decay still in the tooth - which is now covered by a filling.  She said it might be ok, but that we would need to keep a close eye on it and would need to come back for check-ups and xrays every three months.  Additionally, this tooth was also filled so tightly that we are completely unable to floss our daughter's teeth.  Needless to say, we are in the process of fixing Dr. Jenny's shoddy work with our original dentist. I regret having brought my daughter here.  It is hard enough as a little kid to need dental work, but because we came here she now needs more work to replace a poorly done filling that fell out just three months after being put in and to fix a cavity where decay was left in the tooth and a filling placed over it.  This is a level of incompetence I've never seen from a dentist before. Additionally, every single appointment (four total) started 20-40 minutes late despite being the first appointment of the day.  Billing is a complete mess with no standardization in pricing.  They will not tell you how much you own until you show up for your appointment and good luck if you want to see an itemized breakout of charges because you won't be able to get it from them.  Oh and don't expect your insurance EOB to match what you've been billed by the office because it won't.  At our first appointment the dental hygienist was also pushing us to go on and leave positive reviews online, which felt really uncomfortable and unprofessional. There are many caring and competent pediatric dentists in Philly, and unfortunately this practice if not one of them. Save yourself the headache and your kids the stress and go anywhere but here. read more

Our first visit to Children's Tooth Spa was simply amazing. The dental assistants were all so welcoming, knowledgeable, and obviously love what they do. This dentistry has an open and honest feel. Staff is patient and really good with children. I was escorted to a private room to discuss the treatment plan and it was explained very well. Thank you Ms Sam, Marquise, ASHLEY, and Dr Jenny. :) FYI- My sons appointment was scheduled for 8am. We were seen right away. I completed my registration the day before. read more

Second visit to this office. First time I waiting an hour for my young children to be seen, second over a half hour. Front desk is not friendly or inviting, waiting area is packed. The practice is chaotic and appointment feels rushed. The entire appointment was uncomfortable, and not professional. read more
