I was here for a work trip and other folks from our company had said we had to try this place. Dubbed as "the best bean and cheese burrito ever," I knew it was a must try. Their menu is so plain and simple, but these burritos really were amazing! I got my BRC burrito enchilada style with red chile con carne. It was DELICIOUS. The beans are super smooth a fresh, definitely with that homemade flavor. Their tortillas were delicious too. We also got their rolled tacos that were just the right mixture of crunchy and soft. The shredded beef was nicely packed in to each one, making every bite delicious. If I could change anything about this place it would be the salsa that came with the rolled tacos. Think like Pace Picante with a little more water added. For a family owned Mexican spot that is such a hit with the locals, I would think their salsa game would be on point as well, but I'm still happy. And the price? We ordered lunch for an entire office and it was $56, with TONS of leftovers. I'll definitely be hitting this spot up next time I'm in town.. I just hope they add some bomb homemade salsa verde to their rolled taco options. read more

The Chile Pepper - Bean, rice, and cheese burrito enchilada style. - Mexican Near Me - Yuma, Arizona

So everybody is telling me about this bean and cheese burrito I have to try, and to be honest with you I'm like, "Really bean and cheese burrito?" But they kept raving about it so I had to check it out for myself. I have to tell you that my expectations were high going in, and to be really Frank, they did not disappoint. I'm going to get all of the stuff out of the way that I would say could use an improvement, like maybe different napkins, and they really could use a beer and wine license because the food is sincerely delicious and inexpensive which just screams, "Get this after you hit the bar" food. that being said though, the burrito was absolutely amazing and I think it was a total of $2 and some change. Along with it I ordered the rolled tacos, and also the chorizo tostada, and both were pretty good, especially when you consider the price. $0.89 for each roll taco, and like two and a half dollars for the tostada. my total bill was literally under ten bucks, and if you think about it if you go apples to apples with let's say, Taco Bell, literally there's no way you can justify going to taco Bell when you have this place in your town! the staff and all of the waitresses were super friendly so I really enjoyed that, and again a nice little gem in such a cool little town. Machaca Recipe (not as good as Chile Pepper, but it will do until you can get there!) Marinade: * cup Worcestershire sauce * Juice of two limes * 1 tsp garlic powder * 1 tsp ground cumin * 1 tsp chili powder * 1/2 tsp salt * 1/2 tsp black pepper * 1/2 cup vegetable oil or olive oil Machaca: * 2-3 lb Chuck Roast or Skirt Steak, trimmed and cut into lb portions. * 1 Large Texas Sweet Onion (yellow onion) diced * 1/2 green bell pepper diced * 4 cloves of garlic, minced or pressed * 1 Fresh Jalapeno Pepper, minced * 1 14oz can diced tomatoes or tomatoes with green chilies * cup beef broth * 1 Tb dried oregano * 1 Tb ground cumin * 1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce such as Tabasco * salt and pepper to taste * Vegetable oil for searing the beef For the marinade, combine all the ingredients in a bowl then whisk them to form an emulsion. Add the beef making sure every piece is evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate. Marinate the beef overnight in a bowl in the refrigerator. Before preparing, drain thoroughly and allow meat to come up to room temperature for about 30 minutes. In a large soup pot, heat a few tablespoons of oil over medium-high heat until very hot. Sear the beef a few pieces at a time to develop a rich brown color on all sides as well as on the bottom of the pan. Do this in several batches if the pot is too crowded. When all the beef is browned nicely and removed from the pan, add the onions, peppers, and garlic to the hot pan. Saut for a few minutes then add the remaining ingredients to the pan along with the beef. Bring to a boil, scraping the browned bits off the bottom of the pan. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer slowly for about 2 hours. The meat should be very tender and should easily fall apart when pricked with a fork. Remove from heat, remove meat to a cutting board and shred with a pair of forks. Return to the pot and bring to a simmer, uncovered. Reduce the liquid until very thick, almost dry. At this point, adjust the seasoning with salt, pepper, and whatever additional heat you want to add if any. Serve with tortillas, cheese, salsa, lettuce and guacamole for a great beef taco. Portion and freeze the remaining machaca in zip lock bags for later use. read more

OMG, I cant even believe that there is another person that has had the exact same experience as Amiee H. I thought I was in the twilight zone when I was told that I could not order food from this side because it was for phone orders only. LOL. Then my experience just got worse. Being from San Diego I have gotten accustom to a certain level of service and taste from my Mexican food. This place did not deliver on either. Don't expect fabulous customer service, the food is way better than the staff interactions. The burritos and rolled tacos are good quality and the quantity is very filling. This is the place all the locals go for Mexican food. It's kinda hidden across the street from Blimpies at 24th street and Avenue A. Extensive menu. The staples are the bean and cheese burritos and rolled tacos. Everything is good. I havent tried the burgers but people say they're good too. The woman taking my order apparently didn't know what "salsa" is because what she gave me was some sort of red water juice type thing. None of our food had any flavor at all. On business in Yuma, I stopped in here on the advice of a few locals. This is a local Yuma institution so I had to try it and I'm glad I did, but I was a bit underwhelmed. It's a good place to people-watch, since it gets packed with Yumans of every shape, size, color and socio-economic status during lunch. The food was decent but nothing to write home about. The space reminds me of a mid-sized high school cafetaria, and there's not much atmosphere aside from the obvious local flavor you get the moment you step in. read more
