So everybody is telling me about this bean and cheese burrito I have to try, and to be honest with you I'm like, "Really bean and cheese burrito?" But they kept raving about it so I had to check it out for myself. I have to tell you that my expectations were high going in, and to be really Frank, they did not disappoint. I'm going to get all of the stuff out of the way that I would say could use an improvement, like maybe different napkins, and they really could use a beer and wine license because the food is sincerely delicious and inexpensive which just screams, "Get this after you hit the bar" food. that being said though, the burrito was absolutely amazing and I think it was a total of $2 and some change. Along with it I ordered the rolled tacos, and also the chorizo tostada, and both were pretty good, especially when you consider the price. $0.89 for each roll taco, and like two and a half dollars for the tostada. my total bill was literally under ten bucks, and if you think about it if you go apples to apples with let's say, Taco Bell, literally there's no way you can justify going to taco Bell when you have this place in your town! the staff and all of the waitresses were super friendly so I really enjoyed that, and again a nice little gem in such a cool little town. Dinner... Under ten bucks.... Under ten bucks! Let that sink in. read more

Machaca Recipe (not as good as Chile Pepper, but it will do until you can get there!) Marinade: * cup Worcestershire sauce * Juice of two limes * 1 tsp garlic powder * 1 tsp ground cumin * 1 tsp chili powder * 1/2 tsp salt * 1/2 tsp black pepper * 1/2 cup vegetable oil or olive oil Machaca: * 2-3 lb Chuck Roast or Skirt Steak, trimmed and cut into lb portions. * 1 Large Texas Sweet Onion (yellow onion) diced * 1/2 green bell pepper diced * 4 cloves of garlic, minced or pressed * 1 Fresh Jalapeno Pepper, minced * 1 14oz can diced tomatoes or tomatoes with green chilies * cup beef broth * 1 Tb dried oregano * 1 Tb ground cumin * 1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce such as Tabasco * salt and pepper to taste * Vegetable oil for searing the beef For the marinade, combine all the ingredients in a bowl then whisk them to form an emulsion. Add the beef making sure every piece is evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate. Marinate the beef overnight in a bowl in the refrigerator. Before preparing, drain thoroughly and allow meat to come up to room temperature for about 30 minutes. In a large soup pot, heat a few tablespoons of oil over medium-high heat until very hot. Sear the beef a few pieces at a time to develop a rich brown color on all sides as well as on the bottom of the pan. Do this in several batches if the pot is too crowded. When all the beef is browned nicely and removed from the pan, add the onions, peppers, and garlic to the hot pan. Saut for a few minutes then add the remaining ingredients to the pan along with the beef. Bring to a boil, scraping the browned bits off the bottom of the pan. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer slowly for about 2 hours. The meat should be very tender and should easily fall apart when pricked with a fork. Remove from heat, remove meat to a cutting board and shred with a pair of forks. Return to the pot and bring to a simmer, uncovered. Reduce the liquid until very thick, almost dry. At this point, adjust the seasoning with salt, pepper, and whatever additional heat you want to add if any. Serve with tortillas, cheese, salsa, lettuce and guacamole for a great beef taco. Portion and freeze the remaining machaca in zip lock bags for later use. read more

Best bean and cheese burritos and rolled tacos in Yuma. It doesn't get any better. Between this restaurant and their sister restaurant "Mr. G's" I've been eating their food since the 70's. I bring my 82yr old mother often as she loves this food. The salsa is so good you just want to drink it instead of dunking your food in it. OMG, I cant even believe that there is another person that has had the exact same experience as Amiee H. I thought I was in the twilight zone when I was told that I could not order food from this side because it was for phone orders only. LOL. Then my experience just got worse. Being from San Diego I have gotten accustom to a certain level of service and taste from my Mexican food. This place did not deliver on either. Here it goes Me: I would like 3 rolled tacos with guacamole, and cheese. Cashier: we can not give you cheese. Me: that's okay I will pay for it. Cashier: but there is no way for me to charge you for cheese, no button for cheese, and they come wrapped up. Me: What? cashier: the rolled tacos come rolled up. We can not put cheese on them Me: Do you not have cheese? Cashier: We have cheese...I just cant give you any...you should order the special Me: Special" 3 rolled tacos with lettuce tomatoes and cheese", but I don't want lettuce and tomatoes, and I want guacamole. Cashier: let me ask... few minutes later she returns. says Okay! Me happy Happy...until another cashier walk up. Cashier1 to cashier2: He wants cheese. Cashier2: we don't do that. Me: Why not? This is the place all the locals go for Mexican food. It's kinda hidden across the street from Blimpies at 24th street and Avenue A. Extensive menu. The staples are the bean and cheese burritos and rolled tacos. Everything is good. I havent tried the burgers but people say they're good too. The woman taking my order apparently didn't know what "salsa" is because what she gave me was some sort of red water juice type thing. None of our food had any flavor at all.
