We were there for dinner yesterday and I had a great experience. I've placed The Choice several times but never knew it was a soul food spot. The customer service was amazing which is very important but rare in many places. The atmosphere was super warm and the food was just as good..We will surely go back

Absolutely Amazing food and super amazing service. I can't put into words how delicious the food is and cooked to perfection. I love soul food and this place deserves a trophy for the absolute best soul food in the nation. The ambiance is so unique and welcoming. It's like eating at home with your family. I am going to make sure each and every single time I visit St.Louis i will be certain to eat here.

My friend Libby and I were driving down Jefferson in our pursuit for something different for breakfast. We noticed the tall sign outside that said breakfast was $7. Sold! As soon as we opened the door the fantastic smell had us. There was so much to take in...the beautiful decor made you think you stepped into a stately mansion in New Orleans and the smell made you think of Grandma's house on Sunday. We realized that it was 11:30 so instead of breakfast we went for the lunch buffet. Between the two of us we had fried chicken, grits, macaroni and cheese, cabbage, smothered steak, smothered chicken, green beans and fried fish. We both got tea. I would have liked to have been told that it was sweet peach tea before I got it but it really was good. The food was exceptional. With it being a buffet we could try everything. I personally liked it better than Sweetie Pies. Tamika was a great waitress. I wish we had been told what to do with our dirty plates but when our glasses were starting to get empty she was there. Two funny guys were sitting next to us. It was their first time too. They had the breakfast. They seemed to wait a long time for their food. There was also some kind of misunderstanding about their order. Their breakfast came with grits but one of the guys wanted rice. Rice was on the buffet and Libby wanted grits so we took care of it. It seemed like every bite we took was better than the last. So why 4 stars? Well, the fish came out last and I barely had room to try it. While everything was spectacular that fish was even better. Not knowing what to do with the plates and partly for the mix up with the guys breakfast. I sort of feel that they should have been offered rice from the get go since out was on the buffet, not like out had to be made. She eventually offered it but was already switched by Libby. I've attached pictures. This place really is beautiful. We will be going back. As a matter of fact, Libby planned to go back the next day but her breakfast buddy couldn't go.

The choice gets five stars because of the class of the place!!! We had a wonderful young server who recommended my drink which was off the chain!!!!! 1st time here and I was truly impressed thought I was in DC because of the atmosphere when you walk through the door.......wow wow wow!

Sidewinder Fries are spiral-cut wedges that come with just enough seasoning. The falafel pita is a great vegetarian choice... seriously, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. There's always a nice selection of craft beers on tap for about $7/pour, as well as a smattering of AB products and other national brands in cans. Beer is wonderfully cold. The bar is well-stocked--especially with local spirits--and the bartenders here know their stuff, making drinks to order and advising what to try if you ask. I'm usually interested in trying a gin or bourbon I haven't had, and they're quick to make recommendations and talk about what's on the shelf. The Drawing Board has a nice-sized bar area with pool tables, darts, and chalkboards, as well as a cool patio. There's a small parking lot on the east (right side of the building), as well as ample street parking just west of the bar on Oak Hill. If you like pub trivia, drop by on a Thursday and test your knowledge and memory!

There was a group of people playing Magic The Gathering which was intriguing.

I'd say it's definitely a "sharing" spot, which I love, perfect for a group of friends, but also great for solo entrées since the portions work either way. During my visit, there was a bit of a delay: our pizza dish took longer than our pastas, but our server handled it really well and stayed super sweet throughout. So, it didn't take away too much from the experience. Overall, this place is a hidden gem. I was surprised it wasn't busier, considering how great the food and service were. Just a heads-up: parking can be really tricky since it's neighborhood street parking, so if you get lucky, you get lucky. Definitely worth a visit!

Only one girl was working the floor, she did a great job, but sometimes the wait could be long. They have on draft cocktails which is nice, I can't imagine how long of a wait it would be if only one person worked the bar and the floor - making drinks! Inside is very clean and it was open seating. We got the GF cheesy bread and GF Big Mac pizza. The cheesy bread was our favorite, lots of Parmesan, came out really hot with great flavor. The GF dough was really good, you wouldn't know it was GF unless someone told you! The Big Mac pizza was good but I think pickles should be inside, and just the sauce and sesame seeds sprinkled on top with more cheese. The pickles should also be higher quality (in my opinion) but they're the exact same pickles as McDonald's so they're staying on theme. It was good but wasn't my favorite. We did enjoy it and liked that they are stuffed pizzas so it's very filling.

St. Louis is lousy with these microbreweries--this part of town in particular, to the point where,…read moreas I ran the streets of the surrounding area, I was violently assaulted with what must be the smell of beer as it's being brewed. It's not altogether different from the smell of beer as it's coming back up, and it called to mind my illustrious, mostly-forgotten-at-this-point college years. I was suddenly compelled to listen to Cannibal Ox and watch certain videos that I'd pilfered from Kazaa, and it's probably for the best that I didn't have access to a circa 1998 Compaq Presario in that moment. The vibe in Bluewood Brewing is a lot classier. There's no "Iron Galaxy" over the PA. The lights are dimmed, which I imagine would be convenient if there was someone there you owed money to. I was particularly impressed with a long table on the patio. I remarked to a member of my running group that it almost certainly didn't come from IKEA. The wood was of too high a quality. The food menu is limited to a small selection of standard sports-bar fare, but this is not anywhere you'd go to watch the game. They might not have any TVs. Did they spend too much on the table? Also, they don't sell any beer in cans, that I'm aware of, which I generally prefer as someone who, as the evening progresses, is prone to dropping things. I went with something called Crush, which is an orange-flavored high-gravity IPA. It was the highest ABV selection on their regular beer menu, but it also costs a little bit more, so you're not really getting over on them--unless you thought to "pregame." I found it to be both less "stiff" than I was expecting and less orange-tasting, in a good way but also in a bad way, in that anything that fails to conform to expectation is at least somewhat disappointing. I was expecting paint thinner and orange juice. I got something that was balanced and flavorful. From the food menu, I got the daily special, which was a sort of elevated patty melt called the Stable Melt. It came with two all-beef patties, Swiss, caramelized onions and "Frisco" sauce on Union Loafers marbled rye, with your choice of chips or fries. It was $18, and as I was standing there a guy came out and changed the price to $19, presumably due to developments in the war with Iran. I was assured that I'd be "grandfathered in" at $18, but I'm not sure if he told the guy at the register and I didn't bother to check. It wasn't necessarily my kind of thing, but it was a great burger. The name-brand bread alone nearly justified the price increase. The meat was generously proportioned (no Diddy), but it didn't quite extend to the edges of the bread. Perhaps if it were one larger patty? The onions gave it a sophisticated Salisbury steak vibe, wholly superior to Hungry Man. The fries called to mind the fries at Wendy's. If only they offered a Frosty to dip them in. It wouldn't necessarily go with their beer. I'd suggest they put bourbon or something in it, but I shudder to think what they might charge.

I'm doing some low-carb eating, so I had them prepared with no sauce and even plain they were top-notch. The pieces were good sized and super crisp and juicy. I eat a lot of wings and I am always a happy eater when, my flats and drums are the same quantity. Just a quirk of mine. Dieting does have some disadvantages. I normally order fries with my wings and I had to miss out this time. However, my mouth was drooling seeing servings of fries at tables around me.
