I went in there yesterday for the first time with my 3 year old son. All I can say is that they're amazing!! A lady cut my son's hair and she was so patient with him and extremely tolerant of him wanting to play around with her and the little hair dusting brush mid haircut. I came in at 1 in the afternoon as a walk-in on a Monday and was told the wait is 1:30 an hour and thirty minutes, which I was fine with! I ended up waiting for 3 fuckin hours!!! Just to be told that they couldn't fit me in that day and offered me an appointment for the next day!!! I sat there like a dumbass and wasted 3 fuckin hours of my life and didn't even get the haircut!! I'm fuckin livid!! Update after Mark L. Of the Chop Shop's comment- I rarely ever write yelp reviews so when I do I make sure they are 100% accurate and justified never embellished. I had never been to the Chop Shop before or after this visit so I didn't care what barber I got. I told the people there multiple times that I am flexible and would go with any barber. I was timing the wait and didn't allow myself to become angry until It reached 3 hours. Now Mark telling me that it is part of their rules to accommodate long waits makes me even more angry! Because they most definitely didn't accommodate me and told me they wouldn't be able to accommodate me. I may sound aggressive in my review but I was nothing but very polite to the barbers so it wasn't my attitude that made them send me home with no haircut. Made an appointment on Monday for this Friday 9/21 @ 4pm. My three boys and I which had an appointment at 1600 and were on time for our appointment . Bc I hate making people run late on their appointments and being inconsiderate on the next appointment after . I sat thru Vicki cutting hair of two people . More people came in after us for Vicki . She got to us at 1641 . 41 mins after our appointment to ask us to come back bc she had double booked herself. She took the people that had came after us . It had to be friends or family as she was hugging them like she had known them . Very irritating for someone that has very limited time to make it to an appointment due to working all week 7 days and waking up at 320 am to go to work for 10 plus hours . Picked up kids then sit for 41 minutes watch two haircuts then be turned away to take the people that came after us. Very horrible buisness ethics. I won't be back . Which suck bc my sons been going there since he was about 5 and is now 13. Never really liked anyone that cut his hair but her . We got the names and place from good reviews! So we knew we were going to wait an hour or so. But we never been here before like i said. We sat an hour an 10 mins. Names being called, people who came in going ahead of us. No big deal, understandable. Both male workers saw their names my husband put next to his name when he signed in. But not one of them said a word. Not "im sorry" i have a few appointments a head of you. Let us know you will be a little longer. F*** let us know something. One of the guys was just standing there... just staring at us knowing we have been very nicly paiently waiting. But nope, not a single word. 2 hours later we just walked out then i belive justin... the guy just standing around comes after us the second my husband sits down in the car. No thanks. Id rather go to a shity place with nicer , polite, professional staff members. Not one person said hello, nothing about the wait. Nothing. Very unprofessional and obviously rude. Dont go here. So this place had good reviews and I'm new to town so went to check it out. Place opened at 0900. I showed up at 0910 with the shop completely full. It says walk ins are welcome but 10 minutes after opening with a full cast and no welcome when I walked in told me 1) the place was unfriendly 2) I needed an appointment. Left to make an appointment. At which everyone confirmed my hypothesis of no availabilities for the day. I try to make an appointment for later: costs 5$! If you want to keep people charging for an appointment is pretty stupid. If you have the time, you can absolutely get a good haircut at a good price at the Choppe Shoppe. If you have the time.... The main reason I stopped giving them my business is they are victims of their own success. Go there on any Saturday, and you can reasonably expect to wait at least two hours until you actually get into a chair for a haircut. I asked if I could make an appointment, and the standard price ($14) went to $20...just to make an appointment. (From a business perspective, you'd rather fleece customers out of another $6 just because they want to save a couple of hours of their time???) Bob, Jenny & Dom are great, but Marc and Deb have horrible attitudes. Again, I cannot stress that you absolutely can get a great haircut here...but at a cost of your own time. It seems to me that this establishment has a policy of waiting for all their appointments to come in before serving their walk-ins, and on top of that, appointments are an extra $5 (of course it would be extra to get service). Was driving through Lancaster needing to get a hair cut before getting back to LA. Stopped here and signed the list before having a seat. The young woman who gave me my hair cut did an awesome job. Listened to what I want and didn't just run the shaver all over and rush me out even though there were people starting to come in. Atmosphere was good. When the music stopped, she went to the back room and turned it on again to keep the place alive. Some good conversation going on between clients and barbers. Let me start off by saying that all I used to do(when it came to cutting hair) was buzz my head and that was probably for the last 15 years. My hair has always been difficult to cut & style, and I had figured that out after to going to just about every single barber shop, beauty shop or a friend who cuts hair. And none of them were able to work with all the struggles of my hair(thick, cow licks, etc.). So for a while I gave up completely on getting my hair cut by anyone. Not too long ago a handful of friends had told me about the Chop Shoppe, and convinced me to go. I looked up the reviews and knew that I'd be waiting for awhile unless I set an appointment(which I didn't, but ALWAYS do now), and I was okay with that. The vibe of the place was legit! Everyone was talkin, asking how the family was, work life and all those personal type of things. They even had a ball game playin on the screens while I was waiting. after waiting just under two hours(again, I knew I'd be waiting) it was my turn. I got my haircut by Justin. He introduced himself, and asked what I wanted. I told him what I was wanting(which was the same thing I asked all the previous barbers), and warned him about the stubbornness of my hair. He said no worries and got to it. While he was cutting my hair, he was asking me questions about myself, where I work and the stuff I fill my time with. The whole time I Notice he's being very particulate about my hair, going back over parts he had already gone over just to make sure it was just right. Fast forward to the end.... He spun the chair around and I was stoked! He did exactly what I had asked! I was beyond happy with the work. That's been about a year now since my first cut, and I only ever get my hair cut by Justin. So do my brothers, who agree and have all had the same experience as I just shared. If you wanna know how great this shop is(because I see many of the same characteristics in all the other barbers), I'll tell you that I just got engaged two weeks ago, and before I did that(because I knew we'd be taking pictures) I went to the Chop Shoppe and had Justin cut my hair. My fiancé appreciated that I had gone to a place that helped me look less haggard for our engagement photos. I appreciate this shop and the staff who work here. Having moved to the area four months ago, my long time barber Joeferson from San Diego helped me find a new one and recommended Mark at the Chop Shoppe based on his work posted on Instagram. Joeferson noticed the consistency of his fades across a variety of different hair textures. What was also important was that he worked by appointment, because as a working professional, I don't have the flexibility or time to walk in and wait. When I went for my first haircut there, I felt at home, as it had the same vibe of hip hop culture and old school barbering like at Joeferson's shop in San Diego. I asked for a medium skin fade comb over, and he delivered with an impressive amount of speed and accuracy. When I sent a picture of it to Joeferson, he greatly approved. As I've gotten to know Mark over these last few months, I found out how he developed his skills from working in places throughout the Los Angeles area from low end to high end shops, and with people from all types of backgrounds. Thursdays Fridays and Saturdays wait times are pretty long, but if you don't want to sit around and wait, pay a little extra and make an appt (I always make appts for me and my 7 year old son). And very friendly. My brother in-law and nephews also get their hair cut there. As I read some of the other reviews, yes you may have to wait. But it's so worth it. The barbers take their time to really make the customer look nice and get to know you. Just be for warned the barbers joke around a lot.
