I wouldn't order from this food truck again, although maybe shwarma flavoring is not right for me. It's possible that shwarma fans might enjoy the taste. Why? Because when I choose "shawarma" over "falafel", "chicken schnitzel", "fried eggplant", and "chicken kebab", I generally assume that the shawarma is not chicken shawarma. Alas, it was. (Incidentally, the catering menu on the Chubbs website separately lists chicken v. beef/lamb shawarma options - so why isn't it on the truck menu?!) The food was mediocre, and there was way too much chickpea (probably should have gotten the rice instead). My lack of ordering prowess aside, the line is really really slow. I complained a bit about the Chicken & Rice guys being slow - Chubbs takes the cake. They were probably processing barely 1.5 orders/minute (which is slow for what should be a high volume lunchtime operation) and I had to give my order twice - once so they start cooking it and a second time to the cashier so I can get charged. How does that make any sense? The once nice surprise I did get was the garlic in the hummus - a bold move that I'm sure gets plenty of other people in a bunch, but I thought that was a winner. Rainy Thursday, found the Chubby Chickpea nearby and had to try. Went with Shawarma Plate, which comes with chicken, hummus, marinated veggies, pita bread and chickpea salad. Chicken shawarma plate desperately needs white or hot sauce. There was some sauce drizzled on top, but I'm not sure what it was. The chicken is over seasoned, giving some pieces a gritty mouthfeel. Further, while some pieces have a slight crispness, most pieces are soggy. Furthermore, the chicken was a bit salty. Underneath the chicken was what I believe is the chickpea salad, which was just cold chickpeas. There might have been some marinade on the chickpeas, but they just tasted like chickpeas to me. I'm not if these chickpeas were boiled fresh or from a can. Pita bread was warm, but a little soggy. I do like that it is fluffy and it is fun to try eating it with hummus or chicken or all three at the same time. The hummus was a little salty. There is a slight staleness and bitterness here, reminiscent of store brands of hummus. Not sure if this in an indication that the hummus is not house made or not. And the marinated veggies or what I believe is the Israeli Salad was mostly tomatoes, cucumbers and some light vinaigrette. Not much going on here. Nothing about this shawarma plate was particularly tasty, and it was reminiscent of some of my own attempts to recreate shawarma at home. The colors, tastes, and textures are lacking and I cannot recommend this food truck. read more

I don't understand why people seem to just not like this truck... or at least the people who do like it simply arent on Yelp? there is always a good line during the lunch rush, and the gents working are always doing all they can to get food out quickly. Perhaps the Food Truck Elite are sticking their noses up... first and foremost, this is a FOOD TRUCK, and its shawarma--- which by most traditions is a fast food. This isn't the tiny white tablecloth greek place you might stop in and have a sit down lunch at. You get given sandwiches and dishes in to-go containers. I always get my old standby, the chubby chickpea--- this is a pita/lavash with seasoned chicken shawarma and falafel in it, along with a healthy smear of hummus as well as tahini, along side some spices, cucumber, tomato, and deliciousness. They have a fryer in the truck, so they are constantly pumping out hot and CRISPY falafels. The chicken is prepared and kept warm, but not cooked on the truck while they are cooking. They mostly make the salads, and falafels on the fly. You can get side salads, fries, and add whatever you want to the sandwiches. They also have a "Chiseled Chickpea" which is white breast kebab, and falafel. (The Chubby is Shawarma) Crispy and well seasoned falafels, in a rush, in a bursting to the limits lavash bread? I had the limonata ($3) to drink- Fresh squeezed lemonade with Mediterranean spearmint, served over crushed ice. Super refreshing... just missing vodka! (hehe) I had the Chubby Veggie Laffa wrap, which is made of falafel and fried eggplant. The price of this particular item is confusing to me. The meat wraps are $8.50 while the vegetarian wraps are $6.50. Shouldn't a half eggplant and half falafel be $6.50? It was priced at $8.50, same as the meat combos. Hummus and tzaziki- yumm! We got The Chubby Chickpea "catered" for our Food Truck Fridays at work. I got a chicken kebab plate with yellow rice, hummus & quinoa. It also came with a flatbread, which I didn't actually eat. The portion was huge; I couldn't finish it all. The chicken was tender and the hummus was flavorful. The quinoa complemented the rest of the food as well. Ugh - what a disappointing lunch experience! I was craving a chicken schwarma to give me the boost I needed to finish the work day. I waited 20 minutes in line - must be a sign of a good food truck! The anticipation built. The excitement quickly faded when I realized I would have been better off eating a raw bulb of garlic. The hummus had so much garlic in it that it was basically spicy. Also, I don't know how this falls in the category of 'schwarma', because it seemed like thinly sliced chicken breast. For $11 - what a rip off! Also there was no hot sauce? Kind of odd I would have liked to see something spicy. The grape leaves we're ok. Food at the truck is good but the service has declined substantially. With all the $ rolling in from their private events, they don't care about their regular customer base. Will not be back. First off, the truck has been missing for weeks from its scheduled location on Stuart St. on Thursdays (twitter indicates they have private bookings, but they've also posted in the past that they had generator and truck problems), so much so that I thought it had cancelled its spot there. Frankly, if they're only going to show up half the time or less, another truck should have their spot. Service at the truck itself has also has really declined. They're constantly running out of things or not bringing menu items. Today was the first day all year they've had pickles. Worse, I specifically asked for a laffa and received a pita. When I told the guy, he said they never had laffa at all today, and immediately moved on to the next customer. There was a guy in the trucks in 2016 managing and really cared about customer satisfaction, offering to comp you something if they ran out or screwed up an order. Mmmmmmm mmmmm. Excuse me while I make gustatory noises because of the scrumptiousness of the Chubby Chickpea. I got the shawarma laffa wrap and some citrus-y ginger tea that were both delightful. The shawarma was packed with tasty tidbits of vegetables, hummus, tahini sauce, chicken and maybe magic. I really liked it - and even though they thought they were out of laffa wraps, one of the guys scrounged around to find one for me - everyone was friendly, and the food was good. Decided to give this another shot, avoiding the chicken shwarma this time, and it was definitely better. Got the falafel wrap and a limonana, which is lemonade with *squints* spearmint? Falafel was crispy and filling with a good amount of hummus. Like with the shwarma, it didn't have a particularly strong taste (no pickles or anything), but it was pretty satisfying. If you're a shawarma or falafel lover, you know the feeling when you've eaten through all of the delicious filling and all you have left is the sad tahini-soaked salad remnants at the bottom of a soggy pita? The service was good, my food came out relatively fast, and the food tasted great. Why two stars? The texture of the chicken made my stomach turn. I got the chicken schnitzel and had to spit out a few bites because the chicken was dry, rubbery, and crunchy (no, it was not the breading that was crunchy, it was the meat itself). It also definitely wasn't pounded paper thin, if at all, like the menu said. One a couple occasions, I couldn't even bite through the chicken and had to pull the piece out and throw it away. The other downside was that it wasn't quite enough food for what I paid for. I'm a regular sized guy with an average apetite and this sandwich left me hungry. I would love to give this place a second chance, because, like I said, the flavors were amazing, but if I do, I doubt it will be a chicken dish. I'd seen the truck at Night Shift Brewery a handful of times, but am usually so full of beer that I pass on food (dumb move, should eat....never learn). So, anyway, there was one morning where I ran 18 miles and my friend and I decided that the best post-run recovery drink was beer (because #carbs, obviously - this is for health, people). We headed to NSB at 11:00am, ordered flights (#giveusallthebeer), found some seats, and within two minutes I was starving and knew I needed food. Luckily, we peeked outside and saw The Chubby Chickpea just waiting. Fantastic, Chubby Chickpea, meet Chubby Lisa. I rushed over and ordered whatever looked like was the most substantial pita on the menu (I think it had chicken shawarma and falafel in it) and when it was handed to me, I couldn't help but laugh because it was huge. I mean like, HUGE. Don't get me wrong, I ate the entire thing...and drank my beer(s), but if you're worried about feeling hungry after one of their pitas, don't be. From what I recall, the prices are a little high, but totally worth it (in my opinion). The flavors are incredible and they really do pack a ton of stuff into it. This is my favorite truck. The truck can be found in South Station every now and then. I had the chicken wrap and it was huge. The one complaint I do have is that they run out of food very quickly. Man, what happened to this place? I used to go here regularly about a year ago and it was delicious. I loved the Chubby Chickpea sandwich, as well as the falafel and shawarma. However, I've now tried it again twice in the past month and it's been terrible both times. I think they've started making more of the food ahead of time, since the wait for your food has definitely decreased. However, that time savings isn't worth it since the falafel has been dry, grainy, tasteless, and even cold on one of my trips. It really doesn't help your reputation when the product you're named for doesn't taste good. The shawarma still isn't too bad, but it's also not great. Definitely not worth a trip on its own. To Chubby Chickpea management: whatever changes you made to your process in the last year, please change them back. I miss the tasty sandwiches I used to be able to depend on from you. read more

I got the chicken plate. upon ordering from the food truck i asked if it is chicken kabob or just regular grilled chicken breast- they said IT IS CHICKEN KABOB. if it wasn't kabob-i was going to get felafel instead. I was so excited, nothing beats a nice chicken kabob ( except maybe beef kabob :)! em..NO IT WAS NOT CHICKEN KABOB by any stretch of imagination.. this ended up being cold in the middle , long slices pieces of chicken breast next to tabbouleh ( which was ok) + salad ( which was ok). The best way to describe this chicken they sold me would be to go to your supermarkets freezer/fridge and find pre-cooked slices of chicken breast that you reheat and top your salads with. The bread that came with the salad was also stone cold in the middle ( the warm parts of the bread tasted delicious). i would never pay $10 for something like this ever again. C'mon guys.
