The chick wagon is a cool spot. It has a really easy throwback diner style menu. Prices are on the low end and the burgers are on the high end. The French fries are ok the onion rings are better. I tried some of the Mexican food and I'd suggest going elsewhere for that. It's not bad but it's not great either. Be sure to get a float! I hadn't been here in years and BOY did I miss it!!! They have tons of cheap Tex mex and bbq. Today I came in hungry, so I ordered the Ranchero plate. It came with a taco and enchilada(both flour tortillas but the taco shell was fried). It also came w a side of rice and beans covered w melted cheese, aaaaand I added a side of guacamole. My favorite has always been the Mexican dinner with a Medium cherry coke. The place has been open for alt least 3 decades with the same owners who work and manage. It's not real Mexican it's more of the Mexican-American version. They do have burgers and fries but have never strayed from the Mexican dinner. My brother introduced me to this place about two weeks ago. So far, we've been here twice. My brother is a picky eater, and so am I to a certain extent. I was a vegetarian for about six or seven years, so I'm not a huge fan of huge meatballs in my tacos. Thankfully, The Chuck Wagon has taco ground beef that is finely ground and not clumped together. The food here is solid, decent food. It's not blow my mind amazing, but it is quite tasty. I enjoy it, and my plate is always clean when I'm done eating. The price you pay for the food you get is great, too. I have no problems seeing myself becoming a semi-regular. (Semi because it's a 30 minute drive from where I live.) Owners changed the online menu to be very inconvenient. The entire menu is not available online and if you are ordering most regular menu items, you must go in and order and wait. This wastes customer time because a customer can no longer do work and must spend their lunch time waiting for food. I won't be going back. I don't understand what their motive is here. This is some of the best comfort foods places that I frequent. It's simple Mexican food but the quality is high, the taste is memorable and the price is perfect. Now that they are doing bulk carry out (20 tacos that can be assembled at home for $25 is a great buy). I have been eating at Chuck Wagon since the late '70s and I swear the taste is still the same. Love love this little Mexican place. First time here I assumed just a little burger place.. Boy was I wrong!!!! They have the best enchiladas & tacos ever!!! A full Mexican menu. There are not a lot of great things to say about the Chuck Wagon. The Ambiance is that of a run-down Diner. The decor is straight out of the 80s. It is very much one of those Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives kind of feel. The only reason I gave him three stars because I love their tacos. Not your typical Taco of fresh cheeses vegetables, but a cheese product and a marinated ground beef taco. Yeah I know, it sounds amazing, LOL! I have had other things to eat here before and the rest of the food is subpar at best. But there's something quite unique about the tacos and if you have the opportunity to try them, just do it. When I got there, I was sternly told that they no longer offered what I ordered and that they would "LET ME" get it this time but never again. Wow. I've worked here and I've also eaten here. I can say the owners are very hardworking and very compassionate people. Linda took me as an employee several years ago because I wanted to help my mom with bills. Since then I left for college with the money i saved from working at the Chuck Wagon and graduated college. I, however, always come back to the chuck wagon for the casa and chips, nachos, and tostadas. The menu typically has something on the menu for everyone. If you don't like the tacos, try the burgers, if you don't like fries, try the nachos. This place is loved by locals bc it's different than other places, but the consistent. It's loved because the family are good people, and it's loved because the food is well priced for family eatery. It has history now. read more

Best hometown non chain restaurant around. Always hot and fresh, no microwaves here. Clean, fun, homely atmosphere. Tacos, enchiladas,(large enchys best imo), and coney islands are beast. This place is an aquired taste. In my experience people who were not raised on it, dont care for it at all. Me on the other hand, I love it! I can usually never decide what i want. So i have a burger and super taco and enchilada at least! i have gone here since i was a child. i remember no matter what day it was, they were packed for lunch. and they used to have all you can eat on Thursdays. . now, it is a a bit calmer and still very good. it is not the chuck-wagon i grew up eating. there are no value meals everything is ala carte. so it can get pricey for a cheaper place. they do usually have a daily mexican plate special. it is a fairview heights institution. the owners have always been very nice. i can remember my grandma talking about when the current owner was a teenager and his parents ran it. my current fave here are the enchiladas and the nachos. read more
