While disappointing results can sometimes happen, what bothered me most was the complete lack of communication afterward. I reached out to Masaki on May 13 regarding my concerns and attempted to resolve the issue privately. I never received a response. It has now been about a month, and despite giving plenty of time for a reply, I have been ignored. I did not immediately leave reviews or make public comments because I wanted to give him the opportunity to address the situation directly. Unfortunately, that opportunity was never taken. For $480, I expected a higher standard of work and customer service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Masaki.

I only needed a haircut and this was the only chance I got (I am a SAHM with 2 kids and minimal backup except this day) so I said I would consider it but I need a cut now. It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I could have done it myself.

This really pissed me off because in the middle of my appointment, I even heard an assistant ask in Mandarin "is she getting a haircut?" and the stylist shook his head. I was really unhappy with my hair that I went to get a hair treatment (for the dry, damaged hair) and toner at a different salon a week later. That stylist even asked "who did your hair?"

They tested a strain on my hair and it turned out red, and said that I wouldn't be able to go ash blonde. Super grateful that they did a test but very sad that I was unable to do the color that I want. They did offer me to do like an ash brown, but that wasn't what I wanted unfortunately. They told me I could wait for it to grow out and then they can't fix it up and do the color that I want. I will definitely be revisiting the salon since the service is so good and they are so kind.

I was a bit disappointed to see that it looked nothing like the picture and it was fake rose petals which I thought was weird. I'll give them an A for effort though although it looked nothing like the picture. The massage was amazing. She did a really great job. Most of my massages are pretty rough but she did a great job with light to medium pressure. I really liked the glass of champagne and the chocolate truffles. The private soak was nice but I really enjoyed the sauna. It was definitely a great experience. Came out feeling revitalized. My boyfriend really enjoyed the massage and the amenities.

If you truly care about a salon that will give the utmost customer service and give you the full attention you need for your hair, DO NOT come here. I bought a voucher for balayage highlights off Gilt City. This was my first time purchasing any type of voucher for beauty/hair services as I've heard horror stories and how one must take precaution especially for hair. I was reading the reviews to make sure that this would be a good place to get it done and based off the then (53 reviews) I read, it was not as many reviews as I wanted, but I thought it would be an OK place to go through with the voucher. I called the salon to schedule an appointment for a specific time. Like everyone else who has a busy schedule, I made sure that my appointment was for the specific time I asked. A day before the appointment, one of the receptionists called to ensure that I was still on track for the appointment. However, I found out that they had mistakenly scheduled me for an hour before what I had initially requested. When I pointed this out, they apologized and admitted that this was their mistake. I asked if there was any way I can reschedule as I was leaving the state in a few weeks and would like to use this deal before I left. They said that even though this was 100% their fault, unfortunately it would not be possible to schedule me in, and I would have to yet wait another week. I decided to just wait instead of going through the hassle of fighting to reimburse my voucher. A week later and on the day of my appointment, I was on my way to the salon. I called the salon in advance telling them I would be 5-10 minutes late due to traffic. The receptionist thanked me for calling in advance and told me that they usually give their customers 15 minutes to show up before cancelling the appointment. I made it to the salon before the 15 minutes, and as soon as I show up, the receptionist told me, "unfortunately our stylist cannot work on your hair right now and would like to have enough time to work on the other client's hair at 5:30" (my appointment was at 4:30). Confused, I asked what this meant as I came well before the 15 minute deadline (which the receptionist agreed that I did), and why the stylist was already cancelling on me. The receptionist kept reiterating that she knew I came before the deadline, however the stylist refused to see me and would like to prepare for the next client. I asked how this is possible as in, if there is only one stylist available who is doing the highlights? She said yes. At this point, the stylist (Marvin), came out said, "I don't want to waste my time, and will need more time to work on the other client's hair." I was appalled by his statement because it almost seemed as if he may have been under the impression that I was giving the receptionist a hard time when I was just asking questions for clarity, and he straight up assumed that I was 30 minutes late (which was NOT the case and the receptionist can also confirm), and told me that he would "MAYBE" do my hair next time. I did NOT appreciate his tone, especially after having to reschedule because of another receptionist's fault. I also then asked if there is one stylist, why would he/she double book two clients in one day? I would certainly not appreciate or feel comfortable with someone just running back and forth between two people. Who knows if he/she will mess up? The receptionist continued to pout and asked me questions about when I was leaving town to try and make the situation better. I had to hold in my frustration and asked for a business card and thanked them before walking out. I wasn't going to stay there and chit chat and be friends. Moral of the story is, the customer service is absolutely terrible and the receptionists are NOT organized enough to keep appointments on time. Not only that, the stylist that I dealt with had terrible attitude and almost seemed to shoo me away. They also do not tell you that there is only one stylist at a time who does highlights, and this person may be doing one or two other peoples hairs, so keep that in mind. The salon is also ridiculously small and inside some sort of building going through construction. Needless to say, I explained my situation to Gilt City and for an institution that is known to never give refunds, they immediately apologized for the services of Mauricio Hair Salon and decided to reimburse me, that's saying something. Never recommending this place to anyone again. If you want to improve you services, please work on your customer service approach. PS. Also loved how the receptionist misspelled the stylist's name to "Malvin" instead of "Marvin". Would C+P the picture here if I could. Clearly she knew I was going to write this review. If that wasn't the case, I really do hope she knows all the stylists names by now at least. read more

Let's cut right to the chase: Ariana is an absolute HAIR GODDESS--color, cut, styling, treatments, trims (and like... actual trims, none of that 5-inch "trim" business that leaves you wondering where all your hair went). I'm a black woman with natural, kinky/curly hair that, until recently, was highlighted the most beautiful shade of warm, beige-y blonde (thanks to Ariana) and even with all the damage that *should* come with that amount of processing, my hair was the longest, thickest and healthiest it's been in years (also because of Ariana's care). She recently took me back to my natural dark brown color and it sealed the deal for me--no one else is ever touching my hair, lol. She's incredibly meticulous, attentive, truly listens and takes her time... never rushing or distracted, which I love. To be honest, I'd give Ariana 5-stars no matter where she was, but as a client, there's nothing more you could want than the experience you get at Clean Beauty Lab. Incredibly convenient location, adorable decor (I'm a visual person--it matters), impeccably clean, *COVID-compliant*, friendly, personalized service, high-quality products and an intimate salon experience that doesn't feel like you're on a conveyor belt within a hair factory. For me, having a place and stylist I can trust is insanely important as I've had nightmare experiences elsewhere (not everyone can do natural hair... even though they'll claim they can). Love this place and will absolutely be back again soon--especially now as I'm considering switching up my style yet again. read more

I first met Mauricio years ago when I was Stanley's client at Stanley's former salon... and now Mauricio has opened his own beautiful shop. And better still, Stanley has followed his good friend there. Both are wonderful individuals and very talented. Stanley has been doing my cuts & highlights for nearly 11 years, and he is so fantastic. One of my coworkers thought that my blonde highlights were natural, and um, no, they're definitely not! My husband loves the days I get my hair done, because he knows I'm going to come home in a great mood and feeling fabulous. And Stanley's blow-dries last for 6-7 days.... a whole week of not even thinking about my hair in the morning. Lastly, I'm not exactly the type who knows what do with makeup or how to do anything creative with my hair... and Stanley never makes me feel like I'm anything less than deserving of their best work. I know I don't have a glam look or personality, but they make me feel -- and look -- my absolute best. Lastly... I'm aware that some of the posts about Mauricio / Stanley are hidden behind Yelp's "filtered" link simply because they sounded too good to be true. I don't normally write reviews but I felt compelled to give credit to this lovely salon and the beautiful work of Mauricio. I have never dyed my hair (nope, not in my entire life), so to say I was nervous is putting it lightly. I'm new to the city so I basically took a leap of faith and picked this salon because they use organic products. How nice is that?! The stylist they had booked me with was sick the day I went in so I got Mauricio himself! He was fantastic!! He listed patiently to the ideas I had about coloring my hair (I wanted to get rid of the grey streaks) and thought balayage looked more natural than traditional highlights. Mauricio was very familiar with all the current dying styles like balayage and ombre (I did a bunch of researched before booking my appointment). He put me at ease with his confidence and assurance my hair would look great. And boy does it ever! It looks natural and shiny (as he also used a glaze at the end). I got my hair cut and a natural keratin treatment from Holly, who was great. I especially like that this salon uses natural dyes and keratin (hard to find!) rather than keratin with formaldehyde (can be carcinogenic). I was debating trying keratin for a loooong time and am so glad I found this hidden gem salon which provides a good keratin option! The salon has a really nice atmosphere, and they made sure I was well cared for throughout, checking on me and asking my opinion every step of the way. Holly was a pleasure to work with-- She communicated consistently, and gave a great consultation prior to starting. I am thrilled with how my hair turned out!! Holly was very detailed-- making sure she got even the smallest hairs to be in the keratin treatment, and she made me feel really comfortable and pampered :) My before picture was super frizzy and after is so smooth, even after I washed it. Haircut After Haircut- Mauricio Never Disappoints! Mauricio has been cutting my hair for three years and my hair is not easy! It's thin, kind of wispy, curly in parts and not so curly in other parts. Mauricio is literally the first hairdresser to EVER make me look GREAT! He not only really understands hair and hair products, makes you look beautiful, but he also makes you feel beautiful. The new salon is just what others here say- more like going to a spa than just getting a haircut. The shampoo and head massage just blissed me out and the staff is so nurturing and down-to-earth- not at all stuffy or stuck up as they are in so many high-end New York salons. Also, Mauricio's products are all organic. The Brazilian Keratin treatment contains no harsh chemicals like most other salons I've been to and works even better. No fumes, no burning eyes. This IS as good as it gets!!! Mauricio Hair Studio is the only place for me...I just had a keratin treatment on my very curly hair and it was and is amazing....it's a 100% organic product that allows my hair to fall into place easily, looks fantastic and feels incredibly healthy. My haircut by Mauricio, is, as always, perfection. People stop me on the street to ask who does my hair. Mauricio has the magic touch when it comes to hair, selecting an outstanding group of stylists and colorists as well as treating you with care and attention. Mauricio did an amazing job on my haircut and blow dry. I used a Gilt City deal, so I ended up paying about half price. ($59 for the deal, and then I tipped 20% on the full price of $150, totaling $89.) The salon was clean and private (the surrounding building is a little strange, but it was totally fine), and I've never had such polite and considerate customer service. It felt like they were really just trying to take good care of me, rather than the indifference at some other places. Organic products smelled great, the receptionist and Mauricio were amazing, the place was clean and cute, and most importantly, my hair came out awesome. (Plus, he spent a lot of time telling me about my hair texture and type, which feeds the narcissist in me and is just good to know in general.) Stanley is a senior stylist at MHSP...and what an incredible stylist he is! Stanley has been cutting my hair for over 10 years. I'm thrilled that he can now be found at this calm and intimate salon. Wendy is the delightful assistant who takes care of your shampoo and color rinse. She'll send you straight to wonderland. The chair reclines to the sink, and Wendy's scalp massage is heavenly. Stanley has given me a perfect cut every time. I always step out of his chair feeling sleek and sexy. I travel a lot for my work, and any time I had gotten desperate and decided to have my hair cut in another city, I would inevitably call Stanley upon my return and beg him to correct other's hack jobs. As a new mom, I was thrown into a new routine and hair care definitely was not on the top of my list of things to do. I was so thrilled when I was able to get an appointment with Ariana. She trimmed my hair a while back and it grew in beautifully but it was long overdue for some TLC! I needed a new look but I wanted to make sure my curls would be preserved. She was empathetic to my hair care needs and gave a thorough explanation of each step of the process. My balayage looks stunning and the cut she gave me really accentuated the color and my curls. This place is incredible! I hadn't gotten my hair cut and colored in awhile and everyone was so kind and professional simultaneously. My stylist; Andres took great care of me and the girl at the front desk washed my hair, brought me water and was really on top of it. I had the pleasure of meeting Mauricio in the elevator and felt as though everyone who works here cares about their customers. I loved the products and the experience. This is by far the best salon in NYC. I absolutely love it! The studio is so cute, chic, clean and cozy. I always feel comfortable there and everyone is very welcoming. They offer the BEST service and sincerely care about their clients. I have been going to Marvin and I will continue to do so. I love his layering technique and overall approach. He is so pleasant to talk to and is extremely intelligent! What a GREAT salon! Marvin cut my hair and did an incredible job. I brought in a few pictures and he took his time talking to me about what I wanted and what would look best for my hair type/face. If you live in New York, or can get here, this is the ONLY salon to visit. The products are all organic (hard to find in New York, and your hair will love you), the colorists and stylists are excellent, and the staff are warm and attentive. Malvin is my go-to for color - a genius who can't be happy unless you are. Mauricio's cuts style themselves and last forever. I highly recommend visiting Mauricio's for your next cut or color. The staff is highly accommodating, I called for a walk-in appointment that needed to be under 45 minutes, so I could catch a train out of the city and they more than delivered. They expertly eased my frazzled condition (both hair and mentality) with time to spare. Mauricio asked me what I wanted and also made his recommendations without being pushy. I recently went to Mauricio Salon and received great care and attention for my curly hair. The staff is attentive, friendly and professional. The atmosphere of the salon is calm with soothing music and a spa-like feel. The decor is unique with European and Colombian (originally where he is from) influences. I was extremely pleased with the results of my style and color and best of all Mauricio uses environmentally friendly products contributing to a green planet. Definitely recommended. read more

Marvin is a GENIUS when it comes to hair. I have followed him for years and with no regrets. I followed my longtime hair stylist Stanley to his new location at Mauricio Studio Privato and WOW! What a great escape from the same old overbooked ,loud, street level salon! Beautifully set up and very zen I had a wonderful moment away from all the regular NYC day craziness! And of course Stanley is amazing with those scissors... I had been coloring my hair myself and could not quite get the color right. I wanted to use organic hair dye as my hair is thin and fine. My hair was too red/orange and I really wanted a warm brown with some tone. Mauricio fixed me right up and I am so pleased with my color and the treatment I received at the hair studio. Maybe I had too high expectations after reading soo many wonderful reviews of her and her salon. She seemed stuck up(I get it you work w/ models during fashion week woohoo) and the salon environment wasn't exactly relaxing (there was a lot of bickering going on). I don't think the cut is completely TERRIBLE (its pretty bad though...I look like a mushroom!) and especially after paying that much for a haricut I expected something better. I also didn't like the dry cut technique, where she washes your hair, straightens it and then cuts it. You leave the salon with super uber straight hair which on me looked too flat and like I hadn't washed my hair in a few days! So maybe its a preference thing...... Aside "Its all about me" Anecdote: I met up with a few of my friends after getting my haircut and 2 of them didn't realize I had gotten one. The third one remembered me mentioning my appointment and was like hey you were going to get a haircut, saw my hair, and commented "yea its difficult to find a good hair salon in the city" :-( (ususally I get tons of compliments on my hair pre and post haircut). Talk about crushing your self esteem eh! I will most definitely not be visiting again..can't wait for my hair to grow out and getting a proper cut somewhere else. Atleast I gave it a shot!

I was sooo desperate to have my roots fixed and hair trimmed before going on a trip, but going to a new salon as a blonde can be daunting. I booked very last minute and was able to get an appointment within a few days which was awesome. I felt comfortable in the salon with the extra precautions in place for COVID (Only 1 other client and stylist were present in the salon). Once there, Haim knew exactly what needed to be done to my hair. I ended up getting a full foil and trim, and it was a relatively quick experience compared to other salons. My hair felt so soft, fluffy and healthy after, and it stayed like that for a few days. Haim told me that he uses only top-shelf products and I could definitely tell. I am still so happy with the results! It's been about 1 month since I came to Lifestyle Salon and my roots are growing out in a way that is a lot less noticeable than some past experiences I've had with other blond colorists. As someone who has gone to numerous salons across the country- you can tell when someone has experience like Haim and really knows what they're doing. I'm grateful to Haim for doing such a good job with my hair and I look forward to coming back again!

My first cut by her was wonderful but they got progressively worse. It was like she was using my head as an opportunity to try whatever wild new cut she saw in a hair magazine, which was not appreciated. People infer a lot based upon appearance and Merna's cuts were not reading as professional. My last cut by her had way too much going on - angled towards the front and also angled to one side, bad layers, odd bangs, etc. After laying out $150 with tip for a cut, I expect something that looks as expensive as the cuts were. Leave the Haircuttery-worthy experiments for the mannequin heads - not your clients' heads! Merna's daughter is lovely but some of the other assistants in the shop were rather rude. There was a young lady handling shampoos who was either Latina or Middle Eastern who wasn't always pleasant to deal with. I get that up and coming stylists often have it rough but being rough makes things worse (i.e., unemployment). Ladies, there are plenty of other hairstylists in NYC who will do a much better job on your hair for less money! Avoid this salon.
