Alicia made my hair fabulous. Again.
    Abbie Z.

LOVE, love, love Alicia. I've been hooked on her mojo for over a decade. I followed her from Mudhoney to her newest sweetest spot on Allen Street. She is the real deal, born and bred New Yorker, East Village style. Alica has seen it ALL. Truly. She makes the worlds best ponytail hair. Her cuts grow out fabulously, so you never look shabby. She has masterminded the many incarnations of my hair: short, long, platinum, blonde, brown, red, bangs, sideswipe bangs-she never does me wrong. Sad about the horrible cut your friend just got you? Go see her, she will make it better. Promise. (and true story) Love the crew of Hair Queen, Chicago even lets me have a pillow to get my hair washed:) Lots of laughter and as fancy as you want it to be.

Alicia and Chicago are fantastic. I'm the type of client who uses a couple of adjectives to describe what I think I want--fun and different, colorful and edgy, etc. And Alicia is amazing at translating my vague requests. She's also super down to earth and really nice. I first went to see her a year ago to fixed a botched haircut and have been seeing her ever since. She's the type of stylist you stick with for life. Her cuts and colors are amazing--highly highly recommend her!

Magician Veronica made me look Fantastic!

Veronika has SAVED me! I was looking to do some drastic changes in my look and was brewing the idea of doing the bayalage long enough. I never colored my hair in my life and this is supposed to be a big step for me. Finally I was bored to be always with the same hairstyle and was ready to change. I checked different places for the bayalage effect and was astonished to find out that it cost a fortune! I never spend more than $50 on my haircuts. So I just went to my regular cheap place in Chinatown where I cut my hair. Assuming if they are Asian they also know how to color well asian hair because I'm Asian as well. My hairstylist has dyed ash blond hair and it's looks great on him. That made me assure that it should be fine to color my hair with him. I asked the price and it was much much cheaper than in other places. I showed him a picture and he told me:"It's easy!". So we started the process. When he washed my hair I realized what a mistake I made. I had profound stripes, three colors, different uneven patches, and it was way too blond of what I expected. But still thinking maybe it's just I didn't get used to see myself with the change I decided to let it go and walked away. Following days I felt really uncomfortable with my new hairstyle. My bayalage felt cheap. I called different other places to try to fix it and they would tell me even higher prices to fix a bad bayalage. I don't have enough finances to go to fancy hairsalons. So I though I just would color my hair brown and let go the idea of new look. On the way to the salon I Notice Hair Queen salon and decided to ask how much it will cost there. First thing that attracted me was The salon interior. It was very cozy. Veronica greeted me and right away made me feel very comfortable. She start checking my hair and gave me a great detailed consultation. She gave me all the realistic outcomes and was checking the hair like 20'times to make sure how she can work on it. So it made me feel very secure that I'm in hands of a perfectionist. The price was also cheaper than in other places. So I decided to give a try and fix my terrible coloring with Veronica. We agreed if the outcome wouldn't satisfy me she will just color me back to my natural brown. And Voila! She did Magic! She fixed everything and made me look FANTASTIC! I will only go to her to make my bayalage. I so glad I discovered Veronica and the Hair Queen salon. P.S. Don't repeat my mistake in saving money for the Bayalage. The stylist should be really really good. It's an art.

My hair was jet black and Veronika did an amazing job at dying it bleach blonde. It's hard to see in this light but it's beautiful

I paid $480 for my appointment and left with hair that looked patchy and not like what we had discussed. While disappointing results can sometimes happen, what bothered me most was the complete lack of communication afterward. I reached out to Masaki on May 13 regarding my concerns and attempted to resolve the issue privately. I never received a response. It has now been about a month, and despite giving plenty of time for a reply, I have been ignored. I did not immediately leave reviews or make public comments because I wanted to give him the opportunity to address the situation directly. Unfortunately, that opportunity was never taken. For $480, I expected a higher standard of work and customer service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Masaki.

Updating my review: I used to come here because the haircuts were strong, but over time the…read moreexperience deteriorated significantly. Appointments became rushed, started late, and lacked even basic professionalism. You're barely greeted when you walk in, and the overall tone makes it feel like you're inconveniencing them just by being there. I told them multiple times I had a head injury from a concussion and the lack of care was very concerning how abrasively they washed and handled my head. My most recent appointment was a complete failure. I asked for a warm, golden brown and came prepared with multiple reference photos. While the color was processing, I clearly flagged that it was pulling purple. That concern was dismissed, and the product was left on longer. The result was the darkest my hair has ever been, almost black with a cool, purple hue. The exact opposite of what I requested. The color job is all mismatched, the lower part of my hair significantly darker, the roots are sloppy and uneven. When I pointed this out, the response was defensive and dismissive. At one point, I was sarcastically asked if I wanted to "bleach it," which is an inappropriate and careless suggestion for already fine hair. It was mind blowing to have this handled so poorly and then be rushed through a cut that does not look anywhere close to the quality of the past cuts. I followed up requesting a refund, given that this will take months to correct and fade, and received no response for over 48 hours. It's not even about the money - it's about the severe lack of respect. What's most surprising is that this level of defensiveness and lack of accountability was unacceptable, especially after such a grave mistake. Instead of thoughtful adjustment and ownership, the response was dismissive in the moment and silent afterward. Mistakes happen. How they're handled is what defines a business. This was not handled well. NYC has no shortage of salons that can deliver both technical skill and professionalism. This is not one of them. Updating this with a pic and additional NYC HAIR SALON SEO terms so future customers are warned since the salon has decided to block me after no satisfactory resolution. The pic at the top right was me pre-hair f*** up. Only come to this salon if you'd like to come home and cry.

This was their "best advice for me" and that I should come back and get both together. I only needed a haircut and this was the only chance I got (I am a SAHM with 2 kids and minimal backup except this day) so I said I would consider it but I need a cut now. It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I could have done it myself.

I haven't cut my hair in 6 months and I have really long straight natural hair so you can say it is a blank canvas. This is probably one of the worst haircut I have gotten in years compared to other places that are in different price ranges. Leaving the salon it looked good styled but when I went home to wash it and had more time to look without it curled I saw really choppy layers and the length is much shorter than i wanted. For a cut I paid $107-110 not including tips and expected a decent cut for that amount. Truly disappointing as holidays are coming up and I have been wearing a hat to cover up, cannot wait for this to grow out but will take months. Ara was really sweet and nice but I don't think the skills were there.

He's definitely a professional and knows what he's doing especially when it comes to dying/bleach/toning and cutting short Asian hair to fit my face shape. I asked for ash brown (which I usually get) but I got a way lighter color than expected and the bleach (he went over the bleach twice) really damaged my hair. On top of that, they charged me for a haircut I never asked for. During the balayage, the stylist cut/thinned (no idea what he did because he never asked me) some of my hair (maybe 10 "snips"?) and they later charged me an additional $70 for the "haircut." This really pissed me off because in the middle of my appointment, I even heard an assistant ask in Mandarin "is she getting a haircut?" and the stylist shook his head. I was really unhappy with my hair that I went to get a hair treatment (for the dry, damaged hair) and toner at a different salon a week later. That stylist even asked "who did your hair?"
