Best silly fun I've had in a while! The Cloak and Wand is a magic-themed store. Love Harry Potter? This store is for you. Look for the dark building with the dragon and broom parking sign outside! Then step inside for lots of Harry Potter (and other magic) merchandise, including a magical creature "adoption" area. But we were there for something specific - their potion bar. Cold potions are sort of Italian sodas, while hot potions are hot chocolates. You can order from their menu (which is extensive) or you can make your own (ask them for the menu). Very cute little shop. The decor is very nicely done with plenty of magical props and lots of book cases. There was a long line on this hot day for their cold, magically inspired, beverages. Also, there wasn't much in the way of AC in there on this very hot day. Much of the items for sale are books especially lots of magical inspired cook books including those inspired by the wizarding world and LotR. I also saw a book of magical destinations around the world if you are a traveler. They also have quite a lot of blank-inside, hard cover journals and notebooks. These are very nice and quite pricey. They also offer stuffed magical creatures, small character replicas, coffee mugs, water bottles, magnets and plenty of other magic inspired items. It certainly has a great vibe in there and lots of small children were having a blast! Purchase your items at the potions bar. The Yelp location pin was way off and I did 'suggest an edit' to move the pin to it's correct place. Fingers crossed you find it more easily than I did! The potion bar is a custom soda bar and custom hot chocolate bar where you can order and/or create your own magical drink using more than 64 different flavors. The decorations on the walls are great and include multiple moving portraits. They feature official and unofficial products from multiple magical franchises like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Stranger Things etc. Stationery, books, hand crafted wands, costumes, collectibles, etc. They also have a 'bar' where they offer both alcoholic and nonalcoholic cold and hot drinks inspired from various fandoms. I had the nonalcoholic butterbeer and it's leaps and bounds better than the official one - not too sweet and topped with whipped cream and edible glitter. Also the price was very reasonable! This is the most magical place at the Olde Mistick Village, The Cloak and Wand. Bring your Harry Potter fans or if you are just curious about the Wizard World. The shop is small, but it has a fine curated collection of gifts, toys, books, wands. A lot of the items are Harry Potter licensed or inspired. There are also Dungeon & Dragons, Disney, and others that fit the theme of the shop. It's a fun place to browse around or looking for a gift for your witch or wizard. Since the shop is in the Village, a popular tourist area, prices a little high. There isn't any other shop like it in the area and it's like a taste of The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando. Our favorite part of the shop is the Potion Bar! They have cold potions (sparking/soda drinks) and hot potions (hot chocolate or coffee). They have pre-made concoctions, but there are over 60 flavorings to make your own creation. Some drinks change color, sparkle with fairy dust and there is a spell/fortune on the side of every cup. During our last visit, the witch serving us told us we could add coffee to our hot chocolate drinks. Since the hot chocolate is a packet, instead of using water, they used coffee. I was even more excited, they brew up one of my favorite Connecticut coffee roasters, Perkatory from Middletown. The Cloak and Wand is always a must stop for us if we are in the Village. read more

It's really hit or miss on who's making them for the quality you get. Sometimes they just taste like flavored water, and sometimes they are so strong they sugar burn your throat. It's like Goldilocks and the three bears. Takes a few tries to get it just right. The drinks do change by season, so that's fun and will keep us coming back. It's not made super clear where you buy merchandise and if you have to stand in the sometimes long drink like to do so. This is a cool little touristy store in the village. Very Harry Potter-esque and they sell lots of items from ouija boards, tarot cards and all types of spiritual fun stuff. We ended up asking the staff behind the counter and they were pretty helpful but your still kinda on your own. They will answer any questions you have though which is great. We went with a butter beer and some sort of Cookie Monster creation. They come out looking delicious so I think that's where all your money is going, but they make for a great experience at a moderate cost (the prices are just about on scale with StarBucks $4-6 a drink.) The Cloak and Wand is a wizarding and witchcraft shop, bookstore, and potion bar that opened in Mystic, Connecticut in May 2021. It is one of several shops that are located within the Olde Mistick Village shopping center. It was founded by Ellie Greenberg and her husband David. Greenberg originally opened up another business in OMV called Alice in the Village in 2015. This is a tearoom and gift shop that is themed around the classic Lewis Carroll novel "Alice in Wonderland". It was so successful that Greenberg opened a second location in Foxboro, Massachusetts in 2019, but it has since closed. For Greenberg's more recent business venture, she wanted to make a shop where her customers would have a magical and whimsical experience. Upon opening, the shop was met with immediate success from fans of the "Harry Potter" book and film series. However, Cloak and Wand has no affiliation with Harry Potter, author J.K. Rowling, or Warner Brothers Studios. The shop is merely dedicated to all things associated with witchcraft and wizardry. When working in the shop, Greenberg assumes the identity of potion master "E.P. Bergreen". She also recently opened Alice's Haunted Little Bookshop in OMV this past April. A second Cloak and Wand location opened at the Peddler's Village shopping center in New Hope, Pennsylvania this past July. We recently stopped in at Cloak and Wand while we were exploring Mystic with our little wizard. This bookstore celebrates characters that are different and might not "fit in" with the popular crowd. These books give audiences and the book characters power in escaping reality in magical ways. Honestly, we think everyone needs a little escape by way of a vampire or a brave wizard every now and then. This bookstore entices even the youngest of readers to enjoy and dive into some great reads! The shop also appeals to foodies as well as readers. The potion bar's menu consists of themed custom sodas, hot chocolates, and various baked goods! The Cloak and Wand is a hidden gem in CT and by far, the coolest shop at Old Mystic Village. I was in the area a few years ago and they were building this store. I completely forgot about it until I saw the sign over the weekend. Not knowing what I was in for, I was excited by the outside decor and window display. It's like this shop called to my geek heart. When walking in, you enter what feels like another world. It's dark with trees and plants lining the entire store. A witch glares at you, pictures move, and real animal skulls are displayed in glass cabinets. The Cloak and Wand is amazing to say the least. With Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, fairy merchandise and other oddities, there's something for every one here. You can pick out an animal companion or grab some candy, buy goblin figurines or even some wands! Don't forget to stop by the potions counter and pick up a cold or hot potion to take on your journey! The witches and wizards can even brew up a special potion for you based off of answers you give them (what's your favorite part about you, do you want fairy dust, etc). The decor and props have been scaled back - that was a huge part of the experience - and the store doesn't appear to have as much merchandise as it used to. They wasn't as much to look at. Deep anticipation for the opening of Cloak and Wand. I went to the partnered event with Alice in the Village in February, Harry Potter tea, to prepare patrons for the arrival of the store. I finally made it! My daughter and I were very exited. For a 10 year old, it was great! She loved looking around, the prices were reasonable and she loved mixing her open drink combo. She has asked a few times when we are going back. As an adult: Love the concept but want a little more. The shop is designed to aesthetically pleasing with interesting curiosities. Good prices. We visited during Halloween so I am curious how it would be decorated during the regular year. I was a little disappointed at the drink bar. I thought and heard that people were given spells to say from the barista about their 'potion' but this wasn't the case. The bottom line is you pay a lot for your own combo and a fancy throwaway container. Don't get me wrong, great idea but it can be more 'magical'- there are opportunities here. The staff was engaging, helpful and nice but no spells, just passed over the pricey drink. My drink... I went with white hot chocolate with cookie dough. Very sweet and I love sweet but it was too sweet. My daughter went cold with red velvet, cupcake I think and something else but it tasted like root beer to me but she thought it was amazing! This is a great place to check out. Lots of halloween stuff and Harry Potter and different cool knick knacks. They even had wands you could buy and those were super cool. The cashier was extremely patient with me and my husband while we figured out what we wanted. The drinks my husband and I got was "toil and trouble" he thinks, and mine was the "Cereal killah". She explained that with the cold drinks, it was a seltzer with the flavors. The toil and trouble was green apple, Strawberry, and blue raspberry. It literally tasted like when you were a kid and mixed all your slurpee flavors at 7/11. Because of this, it was not worth $5 in my opinion, but my husband drank it all. The Cereal killah was super cute looking, but the drink was not it sis. I don't like seltzer water on its own, and the flavors that were added did not add any flavor what's so ever. If I knew it would be a seltzer with a hint of flavor I would not have ordered it. Especially since on the menu they call it soda and we all know what we think of when we hear soda. Sugary and sweet. Mine was vanilla, cherry, and blackberry. I barely tasted the cherry and vanilla and didn't taste the blackberry. I actually hated it so much I threw it away and went to a different store for a drink. If I'm in the area again, which I will be, I would like to try the hot chocolate drinks they have. Do you need a new magic wand to keep your dragon in line? Well do I have the store for you! This fantasy-themed shop was an absolute blast to take our time browsing through. I feel like it primarily leaned into Harry Potter, which isn't really my thing, but they also had more than enough Lord of the Rings and other paraphernalia to win me over. There's also a tiny pub counter inside where you can order one of their specialty drinks. I got a hot toffee coffee drink because it was a cold February evening, and my wife ordered an iced drink because she's crazy. Then, while waiting for my drink, a couple girls came up and ordered custom made beverages... as in the bartender asks you a few personality-based questions and then makes a custom drink based on your answers. The final question was "would you like fairy dust added to your drink?", which makes it sparkle in the light like Edward. I purchased an item from here that when I checked a massive online retailer that usually has things less expensive than stores-- it was cheaper at Cloak and Wand.
