Excluding a fresh coat of paint, updated carpet, the front bar bar is still in original form (including the regulars that drink there). Look out for the snake bite specials, going out at 10 bucks a jug. You can still catch a local rock/punk band playing on your favourite night of the week (I can't remember what night that is). A step through the corridor and past an ATM, will take you to another bar with big screen TV's and a decent coctail menu. Bi-fold glass doors open up to Moseley Square. This place is more upmarket, so leave your flannel shirt and the previous bar, and whack on your Don Travisty instead. If you're over front bar action, head to rear bistro which has the vibe and decor that reflects a Goldcoast Casino in the 90's. The schnittys are hot, and still at fair bistro prices. Finish your meal to the ambience of a water feature, and if you need time to re-coup, the pokies are just to the right. When you're ready to move on, take 5 steps to the rear car park, or continue on to "The G"

Interestingly when the pub first opened back in 1869, it was known as The Jetty Hotel so it has gone back to its original name. If you like to listen to some music while you sip your drink, The Jetty has live bands on most Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. When the bands aren't playing they have a jukebox in the front bar that's rocking from 7 each night and on Wednesdays you can get into a bit of karaoke if that's your thing. The Jetty Hotel isn't a ritzy experience. It's the kind of pub where you have a beer and put your bets on if you're in the front bar but it is a good place to watch the world go by. If you're in the market for a bite to eat, you can get a good feed either in the front bar or the Watergarden Bistro. They also have a café and a function room to accommodate close to 150 people. Should you so desire you can stay at The Jetty. It has 16 rooms and the rooms are well priced.

It is so refreshing. If you're not looking hard enough you would easily miss it. Walk in and it's like the prohibition era, from the grungy shelves to the dark, moody decor and booths to the sad music. It is easily one of the best themed cocktail bars in Adelaide. Drinks are fantastic. Some bars have expensive drinks for not much and they don't taste great. Not at Baddog, they are top notch and the barman does it right in front of you on the bar so you don't miss a thing. Brilliant. Best find of the year for me so far.

The waist coats, crystal glasses and twisted stainless steel and silver spoons all work to make this a top spot for a cocktail or cheeky beer. A maestro of the common and rare cocktails and a range of spirits you wont find in many bars Zack makes this bar. Sitting at the bar is mandatory for the first drink in my opinion then sneak off to the lux booths for quiet and intimate drinks. Its dark, has very cool décor and edgy clean bathrooms. Bad Dog Bar doesn't have tvs, doesn't have pokies and doesn't have tap beer and for goodness sakes never order an apple-tini :) and that's the way we like it. Top Tip: order the pickleback - rye bourbon shot followed by some freshly made pickle juice. The SMoking Joint cocktail is also a fav!

You wouldn't know it by the name, but this place is all class. Just look at the website!…read more This is a 'Rum and Members Bar'. It reportedly has the world's largest collection of fine rums. Admittedly, this is a fact I can't be sure of. I haven't been everywhere else in the world, y'see. I CAN, however, tell you that I DID try a veritable array of rum, and all of it was fine. Bear in mind, I've always been a vodka man. All other spirits are second-rate to me. (Except the green fairy, but I don't really consider THAT a spirit. It's more a monster unto itself.) But this is some good rum. The decor is great, and not at all cheap or tacky (as you'd expect from a members club), and the music complements the decorating perfectly. Though I'm not typically a fan of rum, if you've friends who love the stuff, bring them here (or be dragged along), and you'll have a gay old time. If you can claim a lounge for your own, many a deep, philosophical and ultimately meaningless conversation will be had before the night is done.

Lots of luxe fabric and billowing curtains and velvet and chocolate ottomans. Rum is the thing at Bar Cuba (Surprise!) and though I'm not a huge fan of rum usually, they make delicious cocktails and as the saying goes, when in Cuba... The music is a mix of soul funk and jazz and the people lounging around may appear casual but their dress certainly is not. This place is booked for functions a fair way ahead so if you want to have a party here you've got to be organised. And here's a hot tip: having your gig here is not a cheap venture. If you don't have the cash you can always do as we've done in the past and gate crash more wealthy people's parties. You didn't read this but... we may have snuck in on occasion. Or better yet, subtly convince your friends to have functions here so you can attend. Yeah... do that.

You have the option of smoking shisha indoors or outside, which makes your option largely dependent on the weather. They have a large selection of flavours to choose from, all with a very sweet aftertaste. My personal favourite would be grape, but others like green apple and strawberry aren't too shabby either. The food is equally as pleasing, with a simple yet delicious menu of Arabic specialties. The chicken yiros has to be my all-time favourite, yet I'm also a big fan of their hot dogs. No matter your choice, it's always satisfying. Their coffee isn't great, and I think if they served Arabic coffee instead it would complete the experience. And if that's not enough, the shop owners are implementing a PS3 gaming system in the lounge area - if they get the games right, I don't think I'll ever need to leave. Smoking shisha whilst playing video games can't be anything short of brilliant.

There are a few shisha venues along the Hindley Street strip but Horus is the oldest and my…read morefavourite. It has managed to stick around when others have failed, largely because of the quality of the shisha, the sense of community the place attracts, and because it is open when others are not. The staff are expert at the etiquette and use of shisha, and certainly don't mind assisting the newcomer. Although in Hindley Street, you're more likely to see friends playing cards than you are a pack of drunks, and Horus is not a licensed premise. If people are bothersome, the staff are quick to act and I always feel safe. The shishas are professionally assembled and I have never been short-changed in tobacco. Staff are continuously outside with containers of coal, ensuring you get the most out of your shisha. Unlike some other places in town, there is no deposit required for shisha use and there are multiple flavours and two sizes. I've been told that they will be getting new stock in soon, including my personal favourite "cappuccino". The owner, Yasser, let me test a new combination "watermelon and mint" which was ok, but I will be sticking to my staple of "grape and mint", at least until the "cappuccino" arrives. Since smoking laws have relegated shisha users to the patch of sidewalk outside, the decor of the inside has slipped a little, though the toilets have certainly improved. Aforementioned toilets are located towards the back of the business behind a door marked "staff only" to discourage use by unscrupulous non-customers, but I always use them and patron-use is fine. Occasionally on the weekends you will have to wait inside for a table to be free outside to smoke a shisha. In the summer time, the experience of smoking a shisha outside can't be beat, but winter along Hindley Street can be bitter and I usually take gloves. As far as the food is concerned, it is a simple kebab shop, but all ingredients are made fresh daily, which is also why I think their kebabs are the best in town. The quality of the falafel and the tabouli is particularly good. Horus also provides pots of mint tea, made just as thoughtfully as they do everything else.

The owner Roger used to pour other people's left over beer into your glass when you weren't looking and there was often a car doing a burn-out out the front, a punch up or a band playing to keep you entertained. I even spent my 21st birthday in the front bar of the Uraidla with mates and ended up wresting each other on the oval with takeaway beers. Good times. Fast forward a lifetime and The Urey is back and kicking with a cash injection from everyone's favourite pub philanthropists: the Peter's. I haven't actually met Ed and Julie yet, but after they did up our old local - The Crafers; and now our new local - The Uraidla, I want to give them a big hug. The old mini orb bar is still in place with a new copper top, but most of the rest of the pub has been given a 2016 refurbishment. It is very mix and match with vinyl stools with chrome bases at the bar, galv plumbing pipe based laminate tables and then some nice solid timber tables and odd chairs and chesterfields. The centrepiece of the place must be the upside down table with floor lamps suspended from the main dining room ceiling as a makeshift thrift shop chandelier. Very creative. The wines include some local favourites from small wineries and the beer selection has some local crafties such as bierhaus, mismatch, prancing pony and prirate life alongside classics like coopers, west end and southwark. I'm going to see if I can get them to put some brew boys, big shed or little bang on tap. I'll keep you posted. As far as the food goes, I have tried a schnitzel with mushroom sauce and found it to be quite good, though very slightly overdone and a bit on the small side. My second meal was crumbed fish and chips and they were cooked very well and came with tartare sauce and lemon so I was chuffed. The main draw for this place though is the great historic hills pub history atmosphere. It oozes from every beam and stone in this building that dates back to the 1860's. The three fireplaces, the art deco entry and the quirky decorative elements such as the pressed tin ceiling to the ¾ keg urinals all make this place fun and cozy. Well done to everyone involved from the Peters to Advance Building Concepts, The locals who helped out and the new staff. I'm looking forward to the brewery and bakery that I've heard so much about and there have been other ideas floated such as communal table nights, quiz nights, whisky bars and more. Bring it on. It's great to see another hills town given a shot in the arm. Cheers!
