This was my second visit, and it was just as great as the first! The service was friendly and attentive, the food was delicious, and the margaritas were fantastic. The chips and salsa are absolutely addicting--I could snack on them all day. On this visit, I ordered the Plato de Birria and the slow-braised short rib tacos, and both dishes were packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. Every bite was satisfying. The prices are reasonable for the quality and portion sizes, making it an even better value. We held a private brunch for a College graduation party for daughter at Z Events, next door to Z South. We could not have picked a better place. Tiffany, our event planner was very friendly and welcoming. She provided us with exceptional service, as did the young men working alongside her. We chose our menu and throughly enjoyed the spread provided, buffet style. Our guests loved everything. Our party consisted of 17 and there was plenty of room. With a private party seating area and separated serving room with beverage bar, it's the perfect spot for bridal/baby showers, bday parties and other intimate events. We highly recommend!! read more

My wife and daughter joined me at this trendy Mexican restaurant. First time here and was impressed. As I usually do on my first feeding of Mexican cuisine, I always get the chile rellano and enchilada combination. Both had unique flavors, and the beans and rice were good. My daughter had the grilled Mahi-Mahi taco, which she loved. My wife had the Barria taco which was filled with meat and tasty. Our server was greet too. Also enjoyed the chips and salsa that came with a tray of 3 sauces. My only drawback for me, was I like the ambiance in an ethnic restaurant to show some culture. I.e. music and design. A really nice spot for a Mexican food lunch with a lovely outdoor, dog-friendly patio as well as a cute indoor dining area with decent food. Staff was friendly and efficient. We really liked our waiter who immediately brought water for the doggie with our iced teas. They start with a complimentary chips and three salsas. All good and chips were obviously fresh. We hit the taco menu for lunch and tried 4 of the 5. These are good sized and not little street tacos. The Al pastor, sadly, was a miss. Ok but a miss. There was odd seasoning like cloves on it and it was little chunks of meat with pineapple and onion but no cilantro The birria, although greasy, was a hit. Very tasty and tender with a tasty although greasy dipping sauce. The shrimp taco was very good. The short rib had a mixed verdict. One didn't care for it but I really liked it. The chile relleno was beautiful, stuffed with a ton of cheese and very lightly battered. I enjoyed every bite alongside the green chicken enchilada with beans and rice on the side. Exactly what I wanted and beyond my expectations. I sat in the outside patio out front and didn't want to leave. The sun beating on my shoulder paired with the breeze coming from the ocean through the valley, unbeatable. What a perfect location to enjoy this decadent meal with an ice cold tea. Delicious! Service was great too! Matt was our waiter and was very nice at explaining the different dishes as we brought some family hadn't been there before. We made it just before happy hour ended and the restaurant was pretty packed. We were able to get our orders in on time and he even checked back agin before H.H. was over to see of we wanted anything else. Food is always fresh and good with lots of flavors. My wife always gets their shrimp tacos and their rice & beans are good too. The house salad is big and full of toppings. Pleasantly surprised- it was even better than I expected. I honestly wasn't expecting to find an excellent upscale southwestern restaurant in Bonsall. They offered hot chips with some amazing fresh, housemade salsa. I think I would come back just for the salsa-- it was so good! Service and accountability! We came in for dinner on a busy night. We get it. But to be over billed is not cool. We were over charged for our drinks. I think the reviews are pretty accurate. I'd try this place again as there were some big positives but also some things that could be improved. #1 they were definitely short staffed. Took a while to get seated due to waiting for tables to be bussed. Chips were brought out promptly once seated. They were tasty as was the salsa platter. Chips are on the heavy side though. Nothing negative there. I just prefer less heavy chips. Just me. I ordered the blackened salmon and my wife ordered a tamale and shrimp taco. The blackened salmon was excellent and a great value for the price. My wife said the tamale was good and had lots of chicken, however, the shrimp taco was lacking meat . It barely had any. The food was perfectly cooked, great flavor and for me a very important factor is the rice. To be completely honest with everyone my wife and I had been here once after Z South first opened and for what ever reason he never went back. We could not remember why that was but since there are ask a lot of options for places to eat after our evening church service (ends at 7:30pm) but Z South was an option as supposed to their other restaurant (Z Cafe, which we like very much). Anyways, the two ladies we came with were very eager to try this place out, so we opted in to go to Z South. Minded it was March 17th (St. Patrick's Day) and it was near closing time (9:00pm). We arrived and was met by the host and told us sitting inside would be around 15-20 minutes but sitting outside was available. Thank goodness there were heaters. Upon sitting down our waitress brought us water and complimentary chips and salsa...we were the only patrons outside but it was okay, nice actually, because it was easy to hear each other in our conversation. One of our friends really wanted a burrito but we did not see one in the menu but upon asking the waitress if she could ask the chef if he could make her a burrito the waitress went in and the chef was okay making our friend a burrito! Most of us ordered tacos and as you can see with my picture below I ordered 4 Tacos: Birria Tacos (corn tortillas dipped in birria consomme with beef in birria) Slow Braised Short Rib Taco (pickled radish, avocado and cilantro) Grilled Shrimp Taco (marinated shrimp, red cabbage, avocado and chipotle dressing) Pollo Al Pastor Taco (white onion and pineapple) And rice and beans on the side. After eating here for our second time, honestly, it was a wonderful experience! Waited 10 minutes to be seated they were running behind and needed to clear tables. We sat in the patio with the umbrella shielding us from the wind. The patio was a very nice, comfortable place to be. Pretty tropical vibe on the patio. Once we're seated, we were tended to by our very attentive server, Kyle. We ordered drinks and got a cafillac margarita for the hubby and a tamarind margarita for me. They tasted great. My tamarind margarita was not made with the tamarind fruit but with tamarind liquor. It still tastes good without looking brown. The chips were crispy, and the salsa was yummy. Could be just a tad bit spicier. But still good. I got a side of crispy brussel sprouts, and the hubby got carne asada. The brussel sprouts were oh so good. And the carne asada was on point! They are dog friendly.
