We drove to Casa Estrella on Friday (yesterday) from Oceanside after 2:00pm because both their own website and Yelp says that they're open on Fridays from 2 - 9pm. Once there we were told they are closed on Fridays. Looking forward to revising the rating upwards should they correct the error at least on their own website. This place is usually amazing... food and drinks I have never complained and have always been beyond happy with anything I have had. However when nachos have a cheese pull but the chorizo fundido is just chorizo with a sprinkle of cheese it makes me sad. read more

I came here for their carnitas but end up getting their menudo. I also had their birria tacos . Their menudo is highly recommend along with the carnitas and birria tacos. They have plenty of parking and good for big groups. The carnitas are made on Sunday morning. Get there early before 9 A.M. because people get there early. They do run out. They have an outdoor bar in the back where carnitas are being made. The property is beautiful for outdoor dining. read more

Love this location. They have plenty of outside seating and on a beautiful warm day out it is a great place to enjoy a meal. I think the outdoor seating area is its biggest advantage. I can see myself coming back here for a drink on a slow day. I ordered a carnitas plate. It was a bit dry for my taste. I would give it a "just alright" rating. Thing to rave about. Decent food. I found this place because I wanted a big blue Margarita for my birthday. I got on yelp and searched "big blue margarita" and this was the first place to come up now it's a tradition to go here for my birthday. I get the same thing everytime. Azul margarita, ceviche, and shredded beef chimichanga with red sauce. Oh and their chips and salsa is amazing! I love how they do both flour an corn chips. The fajita that we ordered was so dry and tasteless. The margarita tasted like lime juice without alcohol. This might possibly be attributed to change of ownership and perhaps change of chef. Initially, I was quite frustrated. The place opened at noon yet they didn't seat anybody until about 12:10. It took another 20 minutes until we were seated, which felt strange because they just opened. Once they finally seated us, everybody was very gracious, but I would've hoped that they would've apologized for the wait. The drinks were fabulous. The food was fabulous. The atmosphere was wonderful. My recommendation moving forward is to A) open the bar while you know a bunch of folks are waiting and B) apologize for the fact that things were taking too long. read more

My son and I went in tonight and had a mixed experience. The wait was advertised at 15 minutes but took 30, that is reasonable as this is a popular spot. We were sat and waited for an additional 20+ minutes which I am sure is not the norm. I got the attention of a server named Mikayla and she was apologetic, fast and friendly. The food was well above average. We loved the entire property which is an old town feel. Things happen in restaurants and they sometimes lead to bad reviews. Nice ambiance but that's about all I can say positively. The waitress was sweet but should have realized I didn't eat my meal because, it was that bad, and she did not credit. As a former waitress, I would have done what is necessary to please the customer (offer another selection or refund) She dropped the ball on this opportunity. Nobody wants to pay for bad food, but I didn't press it. Waste of money. Live and learn. Never again. Also, wasps out of control landing on my food and stressing me out, making my experience even more disturbing. Love this well run restaurant! The food is always fast and delicious, the chips and salsa never empty.. service is always good. We love the enchiladas and the flour tortilla chips they mix in with the corn. We recently moved here and see that this place is always packed on the weekends so we were excited to try it! We were told the wait would be 35 mins and ended up waiting over an hour. Also, came on a Friday and no band was playing that night which was a bummer. The food was very mediocre. The lettuce on the sopes was wilted and the guacamole was disappointing. The beans and rice were not up to pare either. It feels like there is a lack of love/care in the kitchen. Our server was great though and the grounds are very nice. This is one of our favorites. The chips and salsa with the flour tortilla chips are the best. We have had multiple items from their menu and all have been fantastic. The shredded beef chimichanga is probably my favorite. Their margaritas are delicious and not weak. If you get the OMG size you may end up staggering back to your car. Our favorite time to go is during the warmer months so we can sit outside and enjoy the live music. Fantastic place and a must try. read more

Estrella's used to be our family's go-to spot--but after four straight disappointing visits, I'm done. The rice and beans are cold on more than one occasion, orders are missing items, and the service is slow and unfriendly.
