Today I had some time to kill, and decided to try to catch the Glowfish food truck (which rarely…read moreseems to come downtown) at CNN (Sunset & Cole in Hollywood.) I didn't get there until 1:50, and just as I park and start walking toward the truck, it pulls out and I watch my planned pancake disappear. But hey, when life hands me lemons, most of the time I can make lemonade. Instead of heading back to the car, I decide to see what other food trucks are there (there's still a half dozen left.) I've had too many mediocre food truck meals, so now I usually only hit those that score a 4-5 on the Yelp-o-meter. So nothing catches my eye until I see "Get Toasted." It's got a line bigger than the others, but I'm not pure sheep, so I Yelp it and it scores solidly. I get in line, study the menu, and am pleasantly surprised by the prices. I decide to go for the three salbutes (mini tostada-like things) and drink special, and get the day's special salbute on the side. The staff on the truck were super-friendly and polite. They earned one star for great service before I even got the food. WHAT I HAD: Trio of salbutes (I chose carnitas, short rib and pork belly) Small peach vanilla iced tea Extra salbute (spicy crab, their daily special) MOST FAVORITE TO LEAST FAVORITE: (but to be honest, I'd eat all of them again except maybe the short rib) Carnitas - DE-FREAKIN-LICIOUS. Moist and juicy and lots of flavor. Pickled onions and cilantro were perfect complement. Pork Belly - Crispy and fatty and lots of flavor. Spicy Crab - yummy -- and loads of crab -- but not really spicy. Would have been a clear fav for me if the flavor was punched up just a little more. Either more spice or a citrus kick would've made this my #1 instead of my #3. Short Rib - a tiny bit dry and not quite enough flavor. The only other two notes I'd give: 1) Take some of the stems off the cilantro before chopping it. I love cilantro, but the stems can get bitter when there's a lot of them. I ended up fishing some of them out and enjoyed it a lot more. 2) The peach vanilla iced tea (which was a sweetened black tea, I believe) was really good, but too sweet for my taste. It was in the ballpark of most bottled commercial iced teas (Snapple, Nestea) which is a little sweeter than I like. But that's me. Others no doubt will love it as it is. FINAL VERDICT: I thought it was an excellent (and a very good value) meal for $10 flat. I would definitely go again. A few tweaks and I'd give it 5 stars.

None of the dish was. It was all so dry and had no flavor. The fries weren't good either, not crispy at all and I'm thinking what the heck!? If you're going to have a poutine focused truck, how is the gravy watery and not delicious?! How are the fries not bomb!? What am I missing here?! Did I just go on an off day!?

Lobster rolls in general are on the lighter side. I have quite a small appetite but even I could have eaten something else afterward. However, the rule had a fair amount of lobster meat in it including pieces of claw, the more prized cut. The toast was crunchy and soft inside. The melted butter was served on the side so it wouldn't make the bread soggy. I noticed there was a fancy hot dog on the menu with good quality meat. I guess that is for the person that doesn't want lobster but I'm not sure why they would even approach the truck given the theme. Overall it was quite an enjoyable experience.

Being a fan of fries, I was excited to see a food truck that specializes in different load fries. The menu at this truck consists of 11 different fry offerings. Some of the standout menu items that I saw were their Nashville Hot Chicken, Pizza Day, Veggie Lovers and Creamy Alfredo. They also had special chicken wings offering today. They also have churros for dessert. I chose to get the Cali Love Fries. These included one choice protein and I chose to get it with grilled chicken. I was pleasantly surprised at how large the portion is. The Cali Love Fries consist of fries smothered in avocado poblano ranch and Jalapeño ranch dressing and toppings of street corn, Cotija cheese and cheddar cheese chives. They also included lots of grilled chicken. Tastewise the fries were excellent! The Jalapeño ranch dressing and avocado poblano ranch sauces were great! There was a slight hint of spice that gave a subtle fiery flavor to the dish. I loved the grilled chicken along with the corn. Everything came together perfectly for the ultimate loaded fries! Service from the truck was friendly and efficient. They take your number up front and text you when your order is ready. I really enjoyed trying out this truck during the Aerospace Summer Games. Mission accomplished and tastebuds on full throttle for the mission ;)

Our group was pleasantly surprised at how filling the tasty food was. Wise Barbecue opened as a food truck in 2013, focusing on Texas-style BBQ. They now operate a fleet of them, one of which was on the concert grounds of the Toto/Christopher Cross/Romantics show at the newly opened LB Amphitheater. They were located right after the entrance past ticket scanning, and had decent size lines before the show. My daughter/son-in-law treated us to the meal, paying for it using a card through the Square payment system. All of the picnic areas around the grounds were full, so we took our food to our seats, which had opened up by that time. Most of the easy to eat menu was focused on serving their chopped meat (brisket, pulled pork, chicken, hot links)...the only exception being pork ribs. My wife remarked how smartly packaged the food, with the smaller paper tray overfilled with food, but then a much bigger container catching the leftovers. The four of us had our fill of the food, and we ended up throwing much of the non-meat parts away (including the additional corn bread purchased, with was very dense and filling). Brisket Mac Meat ($26) - rich mac/cheese with a generous amount of chopped brisket on top. It came with a slice of raw red onion and some dill pickle slices. Finished the meat, but left most of the macaroni base alone. Brisket Sandwich ($24) - chopped brisket stuffed into a hoagie type bun. Brisket Nachos ($26) - a special with a generous amount of store chips, topped with cheese sauce and chopped brisket. My wife and I shared this and was plenty for the two of us. Corn Bread ($8) - a thick slice of corn bread, individually wrapped for easy transport. It was OK. Lemonade ($10 each) - bought 2 of them. Very sweet, so had to wait for the plentiful ice to melt to make it drinkable. We ended up filling up before the concert and threw it away before the start. The concert was over 4 hours long, and we didn't once regret our decision to throw the leftovers away, indicating how filling the meal was.

A few other first responders and I spent about 20 minutes of our 30-minute break waiting in their line. About five minutes after the event opened to the public, Wise BBQ announced they would no longer serve event employees. Around 10-12 of us who had already been waiting were turned away. I understand they had the right to prioritize paying customers once the event opened, but the way it was handled was disappointing and unprofessional. If there was a cutoff time for employee vouchers, that should have been communicated beforehand or posted on a sign. At minimum, the employees already waiting in line could have been served. Having people spend most of their break waiting only to be turned away at the end left a very poor impression.
