An authentic British plate of fish & chips, according to Gordon Ramsay, *should* be bland. You can season the chips or drown the whole thing in curry sauce if you're Welsh. By contrast, The Codfather's recipes strike a delicate balance between Baja and Birmingham, using seasoned batter that actually tastes good without condiments. I did not like the sandwich for one. But now that I'm sitting at work with bubble guts and intense cramps. Including nausea. This is why I am writing this review. For one the fish was not fried well. The batter was soggy and loose. Secondly there was a HEAP load of tarter sauce on the sandwich. The tomato, lettuce, pickles, plus the ridiculous amount of tarter sauce on the sandwich. It was just a terrible mix. And now I'm feeling extremely sick to my stomach. Also, the bread tasted really funny. I gave two stars because I probably should've went with crab cakes. Don't do it! The first time I tried this truck, I got the crab cakes sandwich. It was so salty, I ended up drinking water over and over again and using the restroom a lot all day. The second time (today) I tried this truck was today. I ordered the fish and chips because someone recommended it to me as their "go-to". Hoping to give it a second try, I ordered and waited. I watched people in line before and after myself get served. When I inquired about my meal, they blamed a "slow fryer" but then proceeded to keep serving fried food to everyone else. Then they gave me a free meal card as an apology. When I finally got my meal 30 minutes later, I ate it, but I couldn't finish it because something didn't feel right. 30 minutes later, I start drinking a lot of water, and had to leave work for the day because of dizziness and sweating. I really do not understand these 5 star reviews. I tried this on Saturday in Santa Clarita( Food Truck Saturdays). Paid 12.00 for fish and chips. The price was ok, the quality was not. Its disconcerting to order food and see boxes of Krustez fish fry mix, huge bags of Taylor Farms coleslaw mix, more bags of cheap white sesame seed buns. The coleslaw mix had that gross "bagged taste". It was extremly salty and inedible too. The fish was greasy and had no flavor. The actual cod was good, it was the coating that was terrible. The fries were pale and limp and definitely not hand cut. The fries looked like, but did not taste like McDonald's fries. I could taste the oil in these fries. They were just really bad. The Fish & Chips are as good as any I've ever had. A lightly coated crunchy shell with flaky tasty fish and the requisite tartar (If you're from Boston, do Not pronounce the second R in tartar!!) The Codfather was parked outside of Nobar yesterday and I was glad the reviews were right. I ordered the chicken nachos they were delicious. Lots of gooey cheese, crunchy chips and plenty of other toppings. My friend ordered the shrimp tacos and they were good too. The corn tortillas were slightly toasted so they didn't get soggy and make a mess. The servings are also great portions. The nachos are piled high and the tacos come in three. Visited this truck in Venice, CA when it was present at a 'First Friday' food truck gathering. Had the Codwich with a slide of coleslaw. The Codwich was excellent. Perfectly fried, crispy, the tartar sauce was excellent. The bread was outstanding, every bite was easy with no tearing so the sandwich was not messy. The tomato and lettuce were as fresh and crisp as could be. The sandwich was also the perfect size not too big, but definitely not small. I saw this food truck as one speck of three in pershing square from the 44th floor of my building. I wasn't sure if it was down there or not because my vision is not very good and I'm not following them on twitter. Once I got down there I looked at the menu I was hooked. Then I saw the fish 'n chips and I figured, when in Rome. I was very happy with my decision. The batter on the fish was very fresh and buttery. It was pretty thick too, most fish and chips I've tried the batter is pretty thin and very crunchy. But this batter was a lot softer which was cool.
